Hopefully this helps us. Becoming an international regular and aiming to play at the next Word cup is presumably a big part in his decision making. Right now he’s firmly on the cusp of it and would know that unless his form drops massively, he’d be signing the Hibs contract to be a first team player and fan favourite, with exposure in Europe.

Moving club is more of a gamble and he won’t get into the DR Congo starting team if he doesn’t settle and sits on a clubs bench.

Didn't score at all last season but think he done fairly well in league 1. The championship is generally a pretty big step up compared to our league so wouldn't be judging him on that.

Yeah I agree they will spend more. Think most people would agree that Triantis isn't premier league quality yet. However, I could definitely see him moving on from us and going up another level to test himself.

This guy has a 1 in 3 goal record in the Norwegian OBOS league - 2nd division.

Melkersen scored 17 in 26 at that level before we signed him. This guy is 25 I think. Time to reboot that super computer

I think because they will spend more is the reason he will move from Sunderland as he won’t get a look in there now though I doubt ( hope I’m wrong) we will see him back which is why we are rumoured to be after Xavier Simon .

You could say that about the whole of the Sunderland team, you don't know if they are that level until they play at that level, Sunderlands best player didn't do a lot on loan at us.

While others say they need better for the Premier League. What I did notice was a couple of the last post were suggesting he has caught the attention of Celtic . Don’t think that would be a good move for him at all .

I don’t think he’s ready for the English Premier yet personally . It wasn’t that long ago a fair amount of our own fans weren’t bothered if we got him back. I think wherever he goes he needs to be playing regularly and I don’t see that happening at Celtic either if there’s anything in their interest in him .

Wee bit dismissive of us and the league on that thread (not all but most), our big advantage would be that in the year before the World Cup he would be a starter for us.

Sunderland or Celtic (not even sure their interest is genuine) can’t offer that.

Definitely the case for Rocky. Not sure if Hoilett made the Canada squad? Wasn’t in the named squad for their game against Ukraine on Saturday by the looks of it.

Canada appears to have matches all through June. Friendly on the 11th then the Gold Cup starting on the 18th.

Arguably, without us, Sunderland would have an under performing centre half who few people would have heard of, and now they have a strong midfielder with decent sized clubs interested.

He’s certainly improved at us a lot which is down to the manager and his staff moving him from CH to Midfield. I suppose one thing we have in our favour is he knows there is a manager that believes in him and he will be one of the first names on the team sheet , wither that’s enough to persuade him to come back if a deal could be struck with Sunderland , who knows.

I think some of the comments on the Sunderland forum are generally what most fans of English clubs have as an opinion of our league in it’s not very good , pub league etc ..

I think this is a bit arrogant and shows the lack of knowledge a lot have about our league , yes they have more money and probably better quality but our league is really competitive and has its own qualities as we have seen in how many good players it’s produced over the years.

Done well to get to premier league, probably fortunate, we know where they will be next season and could take years to get back up.

Been to a few Sunderland games and most are really realistic.

One is Porto and the other Nisbet , both are undoubtedly good players though I do question both players character and attitude after their last spell here . I just don’t see either of them as the right type of character the club have openly spoken about in what they want in players they sign . Maybe I’m alone on this but in both cases I hope we look elsewhere.

Not just you, I wouldn’t be in a hurry to see either of them back.

Think Porteous is wildly overrated and isn’t worth all the other crap that comes along with him. Nisbet is wildly inconsistent.

We can get better than both imo.

That is the thing though. Gray knows them. If he thinks they'd be a fit then they will, and we can all park that attitude nonsense and let Gray get on with getting the best out of them.

I really can't see Porteous coming back. Gray played with him enough to know he can't be trusted. Stupid bookings, failure to take the blame for mistakes. Completely goes against the team spirit the current squad have developed over the season.

They both did well enough at Hibs to get moves to the Championship, and Nisbet did pretty well at Aberdeen last season too, leaving with a Scottish cup winners medal, and scoring 14 goals. Goals > character for me.

For us, only Boyle scored more than Nisbet last season. Nisbet got twice as many as any other Hibs player.

For Hibs - 39 in 101 appearances.

How consistent are you looking for if this is wildy inconsistent?

If Gray were to resign both them then I agree we should let him get on with trying to get the best out of them . I think because Gray does know them he’ll probably / hopefully look elsewhere.

On the bad run we had when it looked like Gray was going to get the chop everyone was pulling in the right direction , backing one another and showing good character and togetherness .

Imagine having them two in the squad around that time .. one would be shouting/ blaming other players never mind the rash tackles in giving away penalties , red cards while the other would probably end up sulking around in looking for a move elsewhere.

Honestly think we have good thing going in this squad that I’d hate to see disrupted by two players who are more than capable of doing so .

That’s not what consistency is though, is it?

He’d go on great runs of form. For example he scored 10 in his first 19 league appearances for Hibs and 12 in his final 19. He’d also go on crap runs of form though, such as when scored 1 in 13 in his first season, or when he scored 5 in 26 in his entire second season.

At Aberdeen this season he scored 3 in his first 7, then he went on to score 1 in 12 (with a couple of games where he was unable to even get off the bench in that 12 he had been so poor). Then he scored 5 in 6.

His overall record was decent and if you get the best of him then you’re laughing. If you get the worst of him though, which you are probably just as likely to get as you are to get the best of him though then you’ll be toiling.

On the flip side Liam Henderson being the other one mentioned in dispatches has the ideal character and attitude. I can't see any of them coming back though, all on Championship level wages now

So you'd be happier with someone who scores you less goals, but does it consistently?

Folk saying Ronan Hale would be good, but I assume you'd disagree because in the middle of the season he went 15 games with only 1 goal?

Simon Murray had a good season, but went spells of 1 goal in 9 and 2 spells of 1 goal in 7 games.

He managed to do well enough at Dunfermline that we paid for him, then well enough at Hibs that Millwall paid for him. It's not worked out for him there, but that's because he's not at that standard of footballer. Comes back to Scotland and has a good season at Aberdeen.

So how exactly is it a big 'if'?

I don't really think Millwall fans opinions of him are that relevant to be honest. They're unlikely to think highly of him as he's never been good enough to play for them. It'd be the same as Hibs fans opinions on someone like Melkerson.

The team dynamic is just so good right now. For me, we protect that above all else.

I never mentioned less goals. I don’t think he’ll be anywhere close to being the best available to us. I think we’ll be able to get a more consistent player who can score more goals.

And yes, I wouldn’t be all that bothered either way for Hale either.

Nisbet won Aberdeen's Player's POTY award. Bad attitudes don't win that award.

Do you have an alarm set for when their names are mentioned as you always seem right at the front of the queue to question their character but dont seem so quick to offer up what exactly these bad traits are?

Not that i think it would happen, Hendo coming back would be very exciting signing, Nisbet if available i would welcome back to Easter Road but who ever we do sign i hope will pass the big character test before hand.

I know I was tired before heading to bed last night, but I could have sworn I read a tweet saying Hibs had resigned Porteous on a 4 year deal.

Maybe I'm imagining, dreamt, or someone put out a joke tweet. Anyway, would be nice if it became a reality. But I'd still want Bushiri to stay, however the longer that goes, the less likely I think it will happen.

Absolutely , taking in good quality players is important but so is adding the right types of characters to our squad and not taking any chances with players who could potentially unsettle / disrupt what this squad has shown it has in spades.

One is Porto and the other Nisbet , both are undoubtedly good players though I do question both players character and attitude after their last spell here . I just don’t see either of them as the right type of character the club have openly spoken about in what they want in players they sign . Maybe I’m alone on this but in both cases I hope we look elsewhere.

Both as I said are undoubtedly good players and I have mentioned why I’d have concerns about both of them coming back as others have . I thought maybe you’d have picked up on these after 30 times or seen some of the other poster’s replies , apparently not though 😉.

Actually not sure I agree with that (and for various reasons I saw quite a few games Nisbet played for Millwall)

You could make a case that he thought he was better than his team mates, and there were more than a few occasions where he'd take the ball in, turn to face goal, and slide a beautiful ball for the onrushing winger (the classic Boyle at Hampden pass)

Only, the Millwall wingers didn't have the pace, or, it seemed, the ability to read the pass, and Nisbet doesn't help himself in these situations by looking absolutely furious at the team mate who didn't read the game.

There is a part of me that thinks Alex Neil might just give him a chance again at Millwall this summer before deciding to sell or keep

Where has all this Porteous chat come from? I've seen nothing that says Hibs are interested in him or for that matter he's interested in Hibs. :confused:

There was chat around the time of the AGM about a former player returning and the rumour took off from there.

Nisbet and Porteous would be great signings for us, both would help us get stronger and give us a good chance of making 3rd again.

I'd be concerned that Nisbet's attitude would disrupt the dressing room and put at risk a team that is clearly 'together'.

What I gathered from the AGM was that Malky McKay indicated that the player would be an out of contract at season end i.e. Boyle and Rocky.

It was pretty common knowledge that the two of them were really pally.

Think some folk are getting carried away with the whole team spirit and character thing. Aye it’s important but it also came about through winning. When you win and get that momentum, everything is better, everyone is happier and so on. When we were getting hammered up at Dens last November nobody was pointing out that the all looked together, had a good spirit and were good characters.

If the team spirit really is good, which it appears to be at the moment, they’ll deal with anyone that steps out of line themselves. If you sign good players, the only folk not happy will be the ones who lose their place. The rest will get on with things because that’s the way football is.

Yes, it's a fair point.

Nisbet has a habit of going on a barren run, which gives the manager a dilemma - keep picking him in the hope he regains form, or drop him? He never looked like a guy who'd give his best from the bench, and accept being dropped for the benefit of the team.

He scored against the Huns aye. But I thought he was terrible in defensive midfield. Weirdly for the reason you liked him, I think he lacks athleticism and isn’t good enough at moving with the ball in tight spaces.

Think there’s a reason he’s never played there since leaving us.
