Whatever the truth of the matter it seems odd that the 'personal reasons' he claims the club were made aware of when he joined couldn't wait for a couple of days so that he could go home after the split, when he could have spent a lot longer at home. From Stendel's point of view he can't just come in with them bottom of the league and continue to do the same things with the same people that took them there.
When the problems are mainly with the most influential players, the highest earners, the most "in with the bricks" and with past fans' favourites, it makes it much harder for him to go for quick, easy and painless fixes.
At least in Whelan's case they've got shot of him quickly, although at what cost? Putting the boot into Berra in this way could have all sorts of consequences.
