That's what might supper that plan. Having served a 2 term presidency, not sure he could step in if the President resigned or died in office.
Michelle Obama on the other hand...
EDIT: Apparently he can but there would be a limit on how long he could return as President. They'd have to call an election.
He can be VP and can serve as president if required.
22nd amendment only states he cant be 'elected' as president again 😁
Might tip Trump over the edge mind since his whole presidency seems to have been based on overturning everything Obama did.
That's not what I'm claiming. If Sanders wins the nomination for the Democrats ticket, then he will bring many progressives with him making the current establishment a junior partner within the party. I'm reading that the powerful within the Democratic Party are considering imposing a candidate, maybe even one that hasn't even put themselves forward for the presidency yet. That could have long lasting negative effects on the party.
Looking at the sums spent by people who have dropped out it's absolutely mental the money spent by people who, if they were being honest with themselves, had absolutely no chance of winning.
I understand you have to be in it to win it, it's good to have a wide selection of candidates with different ideas etc, but F me, I can't help but think the hundreds of millions of dollars pissed up against the wall for campaigns that are over before they started could've made some real differences in inner city projects across the US.
What I don't understand is why these ****ing primaries have to go on for ever and ever. Why can't it just be a one-off vote from party members?
I suspect money probably has something to do with it.
Not sure why but what the timetable does give is plenty chance to really test a candidate under pressure. Allows them to narrow the field gradually so that your are left with the most popular candidate. Had it all been on one day then sanders would have won as the only far left candidate. The slower timetable has allowed the moderate branch of the party to pick their candidate.

Because there isn't a US wide democratic party believe it or not.
Its a collection of 50 independent state wide parties who will endorse a candidate(s), using there own differing rules and regulations and then nominate delegates to represent their state nominations at the national convention of the Democratic parties where the real vote then takes place.
The popular candidate amongst the electorate would appear to be Sanders but the Democrat party boffins seem to know better. Recent political events show that the electorate don't take kindly to being ignored, the Democratic Party establishment are playing with fire.
Wonder if Bloombergs support had a price tag.

He's now constantly using "The Chinese Virus" when talking about Coronavirus.
I still cant fathom how on earth he is in the position he is.
It's fine apparently because we refer to Chinese food, as its food that comes from China.

I totally agree re Trump, but he is just putting his slant on the precedence of how previous epidemics / pandemics were named i.e. Spanish Flu, Honk Kong Flu, MERS etc. Though his use of it is more towards his domestic audience in an effort to deflect from his deplorable handling of this crisis.
IMO yes. It is election year. Only time will tell, but the USA's response to this crisis will probably prove to be the most inept of any G20 country.
Pre COVID-19 I thought he was a shoo-in at the next election, now I think it will be a far closer result as his, almost criminal negligence, in dealing with this will make many US citizens have second thoughts about voting him in for a second term.
So he will be working overtime to deflect criticism of how this is being handled, and focusing blame on an another country is a handy tool which he will milk dry.
He is going to be responsible for the deaths of many more Americans that there needs to be with his view on this, even today he is saying America will soon be open for business, referring everything back to the economy and blaming the media somehow for the spread of the virus?
The man is not a fit human being, has no regard for life or for the welfare of the country he is supposed to be leading and this will end in disaster for America. Thankfully the state governors are generally more in tune with whats going on and putting the states on lockdown.
I know the UK response has been muddled at times but am very glad I am here and not in the USA.
He is desperate for the economy to rebound for his re-election. There is nothing he would not do to get re-elected because there is every chance his whole empire would collapse if he does not have the protection of the presidency and he goes to jail.

He is getting found out and there is no escape.
Even Boris (of whom I am not a fan) has managed to get his s**t together to an extent, and it will be interesting how much attention he pays to Cummings in future - had Boris continued down the Cummings route then the country would be f****d and along with it Boris' political career and legacy. Boris has the potential to emerge almost Churchillian from this is he can keep the damage caused by this virus to a minimum and at a lower rate than in other countries.
When this is all over, the likes of Boris would do well to remember who they listened to, who said what and what were the potential consequences - with hindsight - of those suggestions.
It is a tragedy of immense proportions that they have Trump in charge at this time and it could cost thousands of lives.
Unfortunately thousands of lives could easily turn into tens or hundreds of thousands or worse. And he attacks the media when they ask simple straightforward questions and blames it all on fake news. It is terrifying that this complete self centred idiot can even get to this level of power. He is a shyster of a snake oil salesman and I hope his business world collapses around him.
Am not a big Boris fan but was quite impressed with his address yesterday, first time for me he has shown what I expect from a PM in troubled times.

Maybe not the right thread but the sense I am getting is that Cummings was very much ‘let it go’ then did a u-turn and started advising lockdown etc.
I am no fan of Boris, no fan of the Tories, I am a Labour Party member, albeit a reluctant one under Corbyn. But the Tories won a decent majority at the last election and Boris is coming across so far, as amazing as it might seem as serious and competent. I am not convinced he is serious and competent but I think as it stands, he is doing more than enough to convince marginal voters in England that he is up for the job.
Assuming Keir Starmer gets the Labour gig, and unless Johnson is shown to have culpably done wrong, then Labour have a mountain to climb. Johnson just needs to keep repeating the stoic, resolute lines and the marginal constituencies will vote for him in droves.
My bigger worry is the U.K. government commitment to ploughing billions, if not more, into the economy. It is not that I disagree, I’m probably a Keynesian at heart, but I am suspicious.
My suspicion is that government will obviously ramp up the credit card, or use QE. And when this is over, the deficit will be used as an excuse to slash funding in the public sector and reduce the role of the state, as a remedy.
I am on a different end of the spectrum from neo-liberals and libertarians, but if I was in their shoes I would be rubbing my hands in glee. They will have the opportunity to re-write the narrative. They take the credit for saving the economy, as they are in power, and then have credibility for making things right and off-setting the massive, additional spend - which means an ideological axe to the public sector.
I loved the genre of films in the 70s that were very dystopian. I fear that we might be at risk of realising it. I suspect that common sense and pragmatism will prevail. And if they don’t then we are truly ****ed :greengrin
Trump has started using the “the cure cannot be worse than the problem” line that’s come from the US right wing. Basically meaning it would be worth an unimaginable death toll if the economy was okay. He does not want a total lockdown. He’s off his f’ng head.
Trump is now looking at his strategy to win another term and the hand that he wants to play is a bouyant economy and stock market and close to full employment. That is what is driving his decisions and not the health of the US citizens.

A good summary of how much of a f-wit the man is. No doubt this will be dismissed as FAKE NEWS by certain imbeciles who think Trump can do no wrong.
Sadly Cuomo won’t get many favours from Trump as his brother is one of the main faces of “FAKE NEWS” CNN. I have absolutely no doubt he would be that petty, even in this crisis.
Trump now saying the US will be back up and running by Easter Sunday to ensure the churches can be full at that special time.
At this rate Mexico might be the one building the wall to deal with immigration..
Its madness, he has put his fingers in his ears and shut his eyes and is shouting "la la la I can't hear you, all is well, fake news" loudly to block it out, or this proves just how much of a total and utter idiot this man is if he doesn't get it. He is looking for a second term and to protect his failing businesses.
He will kill many Americans by his choice of narrative and his actions.
Scroll down to the first video, a collection of press conferences from Trump since the outbreak. It is truly scary.

Just watching his latest press conference. He's a complete hoof****ing bungle****.
FAKE NEWS, nothing to see, all is good, we are the goodest country in the world, its CNN, FAKE NEWS, watch Fox, Fox is the best, Mexican Virus, we will build the wall good, it will keep the fake news virus out of the bestest economy ever and everyone is jealous of us, FAKE VIRUS, please visit my golf course...

It’s typical Trump.
Thinks about something for a nano second, gets a gut feel based on not very much at all then spouts his ‘wisdom’ on a subject.
He does it all the time, even when he’s been shown evidence to the contrary or told explicitly the opposite....doesn’t matter to him as only his thoughts count.
They are good thoughts, really good thoughts, good, good thoughts. I can tell you they are beautiful thoughts. Sleepy Joe and Crooked Hillary, they are interesting, really weak. Weak.
We have big ideas about this. I mean big, big ideas. Beautiful ideas.
I have done deals. Amazing deals.
By the way, I have many friends. Believe me, I've been hearing amazing things, beautiful things. A lot of people tell me things.
I've seen this and I've sort of witnessed it - in fact, in two cases I have actually witnessed it.
That's just what I heard.
Wonder where the idiot got the 38m figure from?

Words fail me.....
330 million people locked down with only about 393 million guns between them, being brainwashed by religious zealots and hoof****ing bungle****s to blame China and their closest ally Satan for the deaths of what will probably be tens of thousands of god fearing Americans. What can possibly go wrong?
In all honesty irrespective of who is in charge over there trying to tell lots of Americans what they can and cannot do even if it means people dying is like pissing in the wind i imagine to a certain extent.
Trump is such a dick. American health officials saying everyone should wear face mask and he immediately stresses it's voluntary and he won't be joining in.
I love politics. The machinations and the process to get elected. Then the dirt and grind to actually enact what you want to to do.
Mario Cuomo was a big hitter for the Democratic Party in the eighties and early nineties. In the book and film ‘Primary Colors’ he is barely disguised as a character and he is the one that the also barely-disguised Bill Clinton character fears running against in the primaries.
A strong NY Democrat brings the massive electoral college votes available in New York. A prudent choice of running mate and you have a strategy for winning the election
Andrew Cuomo, current governor of New York State, is getting a ton of good press for how he is dealing with corona virus in NYC, where it seems to be exacerbated in terms of numbers and deaths
There was always talk about a Cuomo run for the presidency, it used to be Mario, but Andrew is now being talked up. A lot will depend on how the virus plays out, but if it settles I wouldn’t rule out a vote from the floor at the party convention, drumming up support for Andrew. He wasn’t in at the start so he would have to be a floor vote.
Admittedly I am not up on rules for how the Democratic Party nominates candidates but from memory, there is the usual primary process, but still the opportunity to nominate and vote from the floor at the time of the Convention. I know a couple of folk who post on here have actually been involved in the work around campaigning during the Democratic primaries and then the actual election. Any insight would be welcome.
"An Open Letter to the president"
From the Drummer of Mötley Crüe, Tommy Lee
Dear ****ing Lunatic,
At your recent press conference - more a word salad that had a stroke and fell down stairs, you were CLEARLY so out of your depth you needed scuba gear. Within minutes of going off air your minions were backpedaling faster than Cirque De Soliel acrobats... In India a week ago, i couldn’t get past the bit about your being the most popular visitor in the history of ****ing india — a country of a BILLION human souls that’s only 3000 years old, give or take.!!! Trust me - Gandhi pulled CROWDS.. You pulled a cricket stadium and half WALKED out...
Do you know how ****ing insane you sound, you off-brand butt plug? That's like the geopolitical equivalent of “that stripper really likes me” — only 10,000 times crazier and less self aware.
You are ****ing exhausting. Every day is a natural experiment in determining how long 300 million people can resist coring out their own assholes with an ice auger. Every time I hear a snippet of your Queens-tinged banshee larynx farts, I want to scream!
We are ****ing tired. As bad as we all thought your presidency would be when Putin got you elected, it’s been inestimably worse.
You called a hostile, nuclear-armed head of state “short and fat.” How the **** does that help?
You accused a woman — a former friend, no less — of showing up at your resort bleeding from the face and begging to get in. You, you, YOU — the guy who looks like a Christmas haggis inexplicably brought to life by Frosty’s magic hat — yes, you of all people said that.
You attempted — with evident ****ing glee — to get 24 million people thrown off their health insurance.
You gave billions away to corporations and the already wealthy while simultaneously telling struggling poor people that you were doing exactly the opposite.
You endorsed a pedophile, praised brutal dictators, and defended LITERAL ****ING NAZIS!
Ninety-nine percent of everything you say is either false, crazy, incoherent, just plain cruel, or a rancid paella of all four.
Oh, by the way, Puerto Rico is still FUBAR. You got yourself and your family billions in tax breaks for Christmas. What do they get? More paper towels?
Enough, enough, enough, enough! For the love of God and all that is holy, good, and pure, would you please, finally and forever, shut your feculent KFC-hole until you have something valuable — or even marginally civil — to say?
You are a fried dick sandwich with a side of schlongs. If chlamydia and gonorrhea had a son, you’d appoint him HHS secretary. You are a disgraceful, pustulant hot stew full of casuistry, godawful ideas, unintelligible non sequiturs, and malignant rage.
You are the perfect circus orangutan diaper from Plato’s World of Forms.
So **** you Mr. President. And **** you forever.
Oh, and Pence, you oleaginous house ferret. **** you, too. You'll be as useful as a chocolate teapot against a medical crisis you Bible thumping cock socket."
I vote for Tommy Lee!! 🤘🤘🤘
Tommy Lee shared it, he didn't write it.

In the least surprising news ever, it turns out one of the investment funds that Trump personally has a stake in invests heavily in one of the drug companies that produces Hydroxychloroquine the drug Trump is pushing as a treatment for Covid-19, against the advice of his medical advisors and based on nothing more than anecdotal evidence of some benefits.
While I get the story and as you say hardly surprising I was left wondering just how much of Sanofi’s profits are driven by such a widely available drug.
In other words it won’t be doing them them any harm but I doubt it’s a huge driver of their bottom line.
Exactly what I was trying to say but you’ve articulated it rather more succinctly [emoji736]
More of a case of him just being an idiot and spouting headline grabbing nonsense to try and pretend he had some sort of answer to the crisis rather than anything more cunning.
The neighbours phoned the polis
Might have another go it is full moon tonight
Guys, I've removed some posts (amusing as they were) as it doesn't fit to our family friendly policy.
Hope you understand.
One of them was mine, my second in a not very good impersonation of Trump. If you want to remove the first one as well then I understand.
I can imagine that some people find jocularity like this possibly offensive. I'm also fully behind the family friendly policy. I have teenage kids and while I would like them to enjoy .net I sometimes wonder what they would make of some of the posts. And then I remember that they are probably seeing, reading and viewing a million times worse. Such is life in this day and age.
Anyway, I believe you don't delete lightly, and you are ptobably busy enough as it is with your own lives, let alone running this place. Certainly no complaints from me.
He's now blaming the WHO for missing the call and threatening to cut off funding to them. He's an utterly contemptible human being.

Not really Trump related as such but Bernie Sanders is set to announce he is dropping out of the Democratic race. Looks like it's Biden v Trump.
How the **** Biden has got to this stage is unreal, every time I've watched him he was like my grandparents who had dementia and a bit all over the place, they really should have went for someone younger as even if Biden somehow wins I can't see him lasting the 4 years
Well he has gone and outdone himself at the last news briefing, airing 7 minute propaganda video which basically says Trump Good, Media Bad....and then proclaiming a number of powers over state governors that he just does not have!
Is there any way we can ban this snake oil salesman from ever setting foot it Scotland again?
That is even by his standards completely bonkers.
I think he is going to have a briefing shortly. What crap will he come out with now?
