Dido Harding shocked by the news that a virus can mutate, and supposedly nobody knew such a thing could happen?
Well apart from the entire scientific community who advised her of course.
She has to be the absolute embodiment of the horrors of UK government cronyism in the midst of a global emergency. Ignore the experts and give the job (and money of course) to your pal instead.
Makes me sick!
Is John Swinney making a statement about schools today?
I think for the avoidance of doubt, at this stage no one is suggesting the daily figures being released are inaccurate. The issue hear is that the Scottish government said they were a bit further behind because they had been concentrating on care homes, that was backed up by percentage figures being released by the two governments. All of a sudden England had caught up with Scotland on care home vaccinations and this was then weaponised by opposition parties to rubbish the reasons being given for the lower figures in Scotland. It turns out England haven’t caught up on care homes, they’ve just lied about the figures. It wouldn’t surprise me if the other figures are inaccurate as well, but there’s nothing to suggest that so far.
On a tangent its remarkable how so many different vaccines from different countries, companies and vaccine technologies, have been shown to hopefully eventually beat this virus. It shows when unprecedented money, man hours and political help what science can do to defeat these things.
I wonder with the will what other illnesses be tackled if attacked the same way. Watching the unbelievable documentary How to survive a plague, about how the people dying from aids had to fight tooth and nail for any help , just how many lives would have been saved
It is an interesting point, regardless of whose figures you believe. I'd like to be seeing how many people we have vaccinated and how many people have been offered the vaccination but declined it. They're both important figures for different reasons. And I'd like to see the difference between 'offered but declined to be vaccinated at all' and 'offered but unable to take the vaccine at that point'.

Now more people vaccinated with a first dose in the US than testing positive. Obviously only tells us so much (I have no idea how many are being tested these days) but good news nonetheless.
I know Captain Tom was one of those unable to take the vaccine due to underlying health reasons, but what proportion of people do we think would actually refuse it? It would strike me as highly irresponsible in the midst of a global pandemic to do so without any clear justification (think certain religions oppose vaccinations, while I think that nutjob Novak Djokovic said he'd refuse - but that's a guy who believes that you can purify contaminated water by the power of positive thought).

Around 15% of English estimated to have had covid shocking although good for immunity 👀
Most consistent rumour I have heard has been to do with female infertility.
We have a high proportion of our staff who are female and of child bearing age and it took a bit of persuading them that there is no evidence whatsoever suggesting a link between this vaccine and infertility.
You're not advised to take the vaccine if you plan to fall pregnant within the next couple of months (I think) but someone, somewhere has been making mischief off the back of that.
Some folk REALLY don't like needles.
And then there are some people who think that they inject you with microchips leaving you open to being controlled by the Chinese government via 5G masts etc.
A 100% rate will always be unrealistic in a society as free as ours, so it ends up just being a case of getting as close to that as you possibly can.
Have they lied about the figure tho?
They have stated that they believe 100% of care homes have been offered the vaccine.
What I’ve not seen is any specific figure for percentage of elderly care home residents vaccinated.
Those are two different things.
Scotland on the other hand has provided detailed percentage figures for elderly care home residents and an overall figure for care homes (92%) as well as care workers (76%)
Indeed when Hancock or whoever was talking about the 100% offered thing he did state that there had been a number of challenges in getting the care workers in particular to take the jab. That situation seems similar in Scotland as that number seems to have been stuck in the mid 70’s for sometime now.
So it certainly could and should be asked why they are either not tracking or releasing the percentage of individuals in English care homes vaccinated I’m not sure it can be stated that they have lied about that figure as I’m not sure it’s ever been published.

Not forgetting he also thought it made perfect sense to host a non-socially distanced tennis tournament for his pals last year, including basketball matches and dancing at a nightclub. Needless to say, he, his wife and a number of those attending contracted the virus.
was checking the stats for Edinburgh and Bingham comes up with Bingham, Magdalene and the Christians
Is the area of Magdalene actually called Madgalene and the Christians?
I've never heard it called that in my life

Great progress again and that date of vaccinating the all important priority group is getting closer.
I spoke to a GP friend in Edinburgh who has 40 elderly vulnerable patients on his list who are to be vaccinated at home by the community vaccination team. None of them have been vaccinated. He has enquired about this and apparently there are a shortage of vaccinators at the EICC and community staff have temporarily been diverted there so the roll out in the community is slower than anticipated. In my opinion it was a big mistake not to ask GP practices to do this. They already have district nurses, health care assistants and practice nurses going into a lot of these patients and they could easily give the injections just like they give the flu jabs.
I feel a real sense of frustration as I am trying to go back and work as a vaccinator. I received an email today saying that I did not attend for my induction at the weekend. i did not receive an invite and they have acknowledged that there has been an 'IT glitch'. I know of 2 other retired health care workers who received the same message. All of us ready to start, but held back by bureaucracy. Then to add insult to injury I received an email an hour ago saying my application to be a vaccinator was being considered. I have already accepted an offer of a contract.
My other half is feeling that frustration too. She's completed all the training modules, but still having to chase the health board (Lothian) to offer her services. Her colleagues in the Lothian area are all facing the same frustration. Those that are in Glasgow seem to be faring better.
If they've got enough vaccinators in place, then fair enough. But the slow rollout so far suggests they haven't. It's really disappointing, as they seemed on the ball initially - as they first emailed looking for vaccinators in October last year.
19,202 cases and 1,322 deaths registered in the UK today.
The 100% figure was published as vaccinated. There was a table that someone put up on here that was giving the care home vaccination percentages, England were miles behind Scotland and then in the space of a week they had jumped ahead. They obviously decided to change the way they were giving the numbers without actually officially saying it. They then sat back and watched the Scottish government take the flak when they knew all along that they hadn’t done the numbers that everyone was reporting.
