I think that is what it is at the moment, if we get confirmed group stage Euro football next season it completely changes the outlook for the club and the players. Next few games are really massive for us now

I hope for the laddie the years extension comes with a small bump up in salary. Just enough to keep him hungry to earn an extended deal.
I was hoping the delay in announcing was due to them agreeing a longer term deal. The fact it is just the year option perhaps suggests we couldn't reach agreement on a longer deal and activating the option means we will get some cash if he leaves. Obviously.. perhaps not. Glad he's at least tied on another year contract and maybe buys us time to get a longer deal agreed. Think he is a big asset.
BBC reporting that we've started talks to keep Junior Hoilett for another season.

There’s still a bit of me has that £7m+ loss from last year’s accounts in the back of my mind. That’s not a wee half million or the sort of thing that needs a tweak to make ends meet - it’s an absolutely brutal and significant amount of money.
The squad we currently have looks to be perfectly capable of being very competitive in our league going forward, if we can keep it together a wee bit longer. Obviously European group stage football would be massive but I just feel like something fairly significant is going to need to happen to get us back on an even keel financially. It’s much easier to talk about extensions and offers for x, h and a bit there’s also a financial reality to consider.
With his recent excellent form for Hibs and for Australia, Miller with something left on his contract becomes a fairly sellable asset. Maybe it’s that?
I read the same (at the AGM perhaps?) where Ian Gordon said they would cover the losses. Not so sure about financial help from the Black Knights - if we are participating in Europe we'd be subject to FSR would we not? Happy to stand corrected but won't our expenditure be tied to our football income?
He confirmed they’d be covering the loss for last year but I think it would be naive to expect them to cover losses of that magnitude indefinitely going forward.
Tbh I think I’ve just got Stockholm syndrome ingrained into me from the penny-pinching Petrie era and have had my tendencies towards largesse eroded in favour of miserly pragmatism.
Aye, you're right about FSR
“The UEFA Financial Sustainability Regulations (FSR) are the new rules replacing Financial Fair Play (FFP) and aim to improve the financial health of football clubs. They focus on a "squad cost ratio" limiting spending on wages, transfers, and other related costs to a percentage of club revenue. Specifically, from the 2025/26 season, clubs participating in UEFA competitions must ensure that their squad cost ratio doesn't exceed 70% of their turnover.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Key Features of the FSR:
Squad Cost Ratio: Clubs are required to keep their "squad cost ratio" below a certain percentage of their revenue.
Gradual Implementation: The 70% cap is being implemented gradually, starting with 90% in 2023/24, 80% in 2024/25, and 70% in 2025/26.
No Overdue Payments Rule: Clubs must ensure all financial obligations are met on time.
Football Earnings Rule: Clubs are allowed a certain level of losses over a three-year period, with the allowance varying based on their financial health.
Net Equity Rule: Clubs must maintain a positive net equity position.
Penalties for Breaches: Breaches of the FSR can result in financial penalties and even sporting measures.
Impact on Clubs:
Limited Spending:
The FSR aims to restrict excessive spending on player wages, transfers, and other related costs, according to UEFA.com.
Focus on Financial Health:
The regulations encourage clubs to prioritize long-term financial sustainability, says Linklaters.
Pressure on Owner Investment:
Clubs may need to rely more on owner investment to cover potential losses, according to Sky Sports”
I haven't had a look to see where the bulk of the losses have come from. But I can imagine it's all problems that may no just disappear in a single financial year such as players wages etc. Will be interesting to know what our plan is this summer in regards to recruitment with that loss in mind, considering we already went really low key in January with Manneh.
Struggling to get my head around this extension thing….
From Hibs’ side of things, we could let him go as his contract is ending, or, as we’ve done, we take up the option to keep him another year. That bit I get.
What’s in it for Miller though? If he was wanting away, then having this option is crap for him.
If he was playing gash, we’d release him anyway.
If he was playing well, which he is, we’d have offered him improved terms to extend his expired contract no?
Kinda feels like heads we win, tails you lose.
I know we are being more cautious with long deals, but in millers case I do feel we could’ve extended his deal by 2-3 quite easily. He’s much improved, and is only getting better at right cb. Minimal impact to us I’d feel. Maybe it’s in the pipeline for next season see how we progress over next six months.
He signed the contract with the option of an extension as part of the terms. Moving abroad to a different country, if he proves himself he has another year in the Scottish shop window. A year where he can kick on again to earn a more lucrative contract at Hibs or a potentially a bigger one elsewhere (Down South, wherever) when the extension expires next summer.
If there are suitors interested in him he will have the chance to make big money as a free agent.
I’m happy with how Miller has done over the last 2 or 3 months but, prior to that, I’d have been happy enough to release him. There’s multiple scenarios and risks with them all. I reckon there will have been some discussion around extending further. He’s maybe happy enough with no longer commitment and we maybe didn’t want to overly commit financially either.
When he signed the deal he would have been well aware of the club having that option, not sure what’s to get your head around?
Thought we would be trying to give him a longer deal so maybe he is holding out for another club, either we get him for another year or get cash for him in the summer, win, win
For all we know miller might move in the summer
Maybe miller does want to leave, hibs have said we’re taking up our right for the years option as we want some money back rather than lose you for nowt.
As someone said miller signed his initial contract knowing Hibs had this available to them.
Think miller looks really good at RCB and already prefer him over O’Hora in there personally.
I don't think the year's option is particularly uncommon in contracts, it offers the club some protection against a player leaving for nothing save for the player, the extra year is unlikely to be prohibitive if a more attractive club wants to sign them - a bigger club than Hibs is more likely to be able to afford the fee so it won't be a deal breaker.
It's fairly common now in all these type of deals. Certain things can trigger the extensions like appearances etc.
He signed the deal with us when he joined that had that clause in the contract. What's in it for him could be anything from "if you sign it with this clause we'll give you £1k a week more" or "if we do activate the clause you get 10% of whatever you're sold for". Genuinely could be anything or nothing at this point.
We have a similar clause in Boyle's contract which I would imagine we'll activate too.

Key dates for 2025/26
The SPFL has today announced some key dates for next season, with the calendar for 2025/26 along similar lines to the current campaign.
The William Hill Premiership, William Hill Championship, William Hill League 1 and William Hill League 2 will all kick off on the weekend of August 1-3.
The William Hill Premiership will conclude on the weekend of May 16/17, while clubs in the Championship, League 1 and League 2 will finish their regular seasons on the first weekend in May, before the play-offs get under way.
The second season of the expanded UEFA club competitions – the league phase of the Champions League and Europa League again runs until the end of January – exerts additional pressure on the domestic calendar. As was the case for 2024/25, there will be no scheduled William Hill Premiership winter break in season 2025/26.
The group stage of the Premier Sports Cup will start on the weekend of July 12/13, with the final scheduled for Sunday December 14. To enable the tournament to be completed before Christmas, the quarter-finals will, as in the current season, be played on a weekend due to the lack of a midweek slot.
SPFL Chief Operating Officer Calum Beattie said: “We are only just into the second half of the season across the four divisions and there is so much to look forward to in the remaining months of season 2024/25.
“However, we are well aware that clubs and supporters need to plan ahead. We are therefore pleased to be able to confirm start and end dates for season 2025/26, as well as the full schedule for the Premier Sports Cup.
“We will again have five clubs competing in UEFA club competitions in season 2025/26 and, of course, we are all hoping that next season ends with Scotland’s participation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”

Olusanya to Houston Dynamo confirmed. Undisclosed six-figure fee. Think £200k was mentioned somewhere.
Not bad for a player put of contract in a few weeks time.
Not sure what their rules are over there for free agents but I seen someone say their window closes soon and the deal would have to be done soon. Considering their season is pretty much over it's decent time to get a chunk of cash for someone already leaving as you say.
He was happy enough to sign the contract, he’d rightly expect Hibs to keep paying his wages if he’d been a total flop, Hibs rightly expect to exercise clauses in the contract if they see fit.
If we’ve offered him improved terms and he’s wanting more than we can afford/want to go to, the club are within their rights to exercise the clause, just as it was his right to reject the new terms
