O’Neils in Soho have been doing this for years. Not sure why it’s suddenly big news. Shame cos it was a great pub with live music a lot of tourists. Had a few good nights there over the years.
I know its not really the same thing but it reminds me of a bar I went to in New York about 12 years ago called Exchange (I believe it is now closed). It was a stock exchange themed bar where the prices of everything fluctuated according to demand and there was a stock exchange style ticker above the bar tracking the prices of the different drinks.
Looking at their website, they are open until 3am every day, which in Soho is a winner. I can't imagine other clubs etc wanting them to charge ' day ' prices
after midnight so I wonder if pressure was put on them even though they are part of a big chain ?
Just a thought...
I’ve heard in Stockbridge on a Sunday afternoon theres a happy hour
The rules around doubles seem to vary place to place, or maybe there aren't, as some places double the price and some just seem to add a seemingly arbitrary amount.
As for £1 nights - I remember (vaguely :greengrin ) the £1 drinks just having to last for 3 nights in a row (an offer still on the go at the Hive I believe, can't imagine the state of the spirit they serve up for that price...).
HJ Beans was decent after work on a Friday for a “happy” few hours.
Bonkers in Glasgow used to do the office party on a Friday night. 5pm till 9pm or something like that. 50p a bottle of Bud. Place was mental.
Establishment on a Thursday night was 50p a vodka, £1 a double etc...
Stereo was the same, until establishment folded and they doubled the prices! Both long gone now.
£5.10 in my local, happy to pay it for a great pint of 80’
Did they have purchase limits on the offer, or work on a go slow from 9:45? :greengrin
I was in a bar in Birmingham earlier in the year that had a cocktail deal that ended at 9pm. Went to the bar at 8:45, 1 server who was taking an age to do anything (it was a quiet hotel bar) and he didn't serve me until after 9. :boohoo:
For a very short period of time (got to be around 2003/2004) Gaia on King Stables Road done £20 (I think) on the door and all drinks inside were free. The con was they only had two or three people on the bars for the whole club. Think that got shut down pretty quickly.
