I see led zepp won the court case claiming they had ripped off a spirit song. Maybe so but them and stones etc did claim a lot of blues songs for themselves, i do have lots of zep and stones music but after digging deeper into the source of the music you can hear it.

Absolutely, i remember someone really slagging off Gabrielle for Rise based on Dylan's Heaven's Door and totally not accepting the Bob had used many an existing tune to add lyrics too. Some comparisons are debatable but others seem to be spot on.
It's almost impossible to be original in music anymore. You learn by playing other peoples compositions. You improve by playing other peoples compositions. When it comes to composing your own music there are so many influences whirling round your brain that you can be plagiarising without knowing it.
And as far as more recent cases are concerned it's easier to recognise if your older and heard the "original" first.
That's right and also as noted above most popular music follows some sort of blues progression. Even if it doesn't there are only certain chords that work in particular keys and they tend to work best in certain patterns. Once you get on to lead patterns for guitar for example above that then again you are limited to the scales and notes that match that key. There are only so many chords and notes that work!Quote:
