Minutes of London Hibs Monthly Meeting, September 14th, 2004

Location : William Wallace and Rob Roy pubs

Present :  Mike Inglis, Stuart Donald, Andrew Murray (Treasurer), Alex Lindsay, Mike Hennessy (scribe), Scott Donaghue

Apologies for Absence : received from Rose (on Arsenal duty) and chairperson Brian Rogan (auditing in Kazakhstan, or auditing Kazakhstan no one was sure). Deputy chairperson Donald took the chair. Well, in reality he didnt because all the barstools and chairs were already stacked on the tables when we arrived at the WW.  (see below).

Meeting Location : the decision re ceasing to use the WW pub was taken for us, for which we will be eternally grateful, decision taking not being on of our core skills.  Not only had the pub decided to close at 8 oclock that very night i.e. at the time the meeting was due to start, but we were told that the it was going to be sold and/or the premises closed in the near future. And there would be no opportunity for a public enquiry, appeal of any other kind of intervention by London Hibs. Talk of a delegation being sent to track down former owner Tony Maloney somewhere in Ireland was deemed a poor use of club funds. At this point the treasurer  bought another round before we were forced out of the pub. That took club funds negative because hardly any of our supposed 100 plus strong membership had paid their subs yet (shame on you all send those cheques to Andrew immediately). Word that the Celtic v Barcelona game was being televised at the Rob Roy convinced those present to adjourn there immediately to support the subsidiary team we founded in 1888. In practice it was really good fun seeing Barca run rings round them

Any Other Business : I dont actually remember what we talked about other than that  Alex was moving house to Lancashire cant be corbyalex any more -  and Stuart was spending lots of time in his parents house in Spain. Andrew was congratulated on winning the junior title at Flushing Meadow. There was no discussion about POTY, merchandise, Burns Night. or the US Presidential election. I remember telling a captivated audience (not) that I went to the Liverpool v Celtic match (5-1) in East Hartford, Connecticut, in July, where the first person I met was ..Archie Macpherson, who told me his son is a Hibee who takes his kids to Easter Road each week. I also spotted at 200 paces a kid wearing a green with white sleeves football shirt. Turned out to be the son of a Hibee who emigrated to Toronto. Tom Hendry by name anyone know him?  Wifes a scouser which explains why they were at the game. At the end, as 10000 cars tried to get out of the place, I spotted the number of the car in front was a Toronto one a Hibee shirt was waved out the window. Talk about coincidences ? On the same trip, I ended up in Manhattan and met a Irish waitress who knew that Hibs was the first and only real Irish team in Scotland !!!!

Why am I telling you all this ? Because otherwise youd be bored and it fills the page

Next Meeting Tuesday October 12th, venue TBA
