London Hibs AGM

As a number of the club’s committee members were unable to make it to the AGM scheduled for Saturday 10th June, it was necessary to postpone this meeting until Saturday 24th June. Our apologies if this caused anyone any problems, but we felt that it was important that the committee were at the meeting to let members know what was planned for the new season. The AGM will be held in the William Wallace pub and will start at 2.30pm so hopefully there will be a good attendance to take advantage of the traditional free pint paid for by the clubs treasurer.

The schedule for the day will be to meet in the pub from 2pm onwards for a couple of drinks. The meeting will then commence at around 2.30pm and will cover the following topics:

  •         Summary of the last 12 months activities at the club

  •         Review of the club’s finances

  •         Review of committee members for the 1999/2000 season

  •         London Hibs Player of the Year for last season

  •         Plans for the new season

  •         AOB

  •         Hibs quiz

It is not too late for you to put your name forward for one of the committee posts so if you are interested in taking on the responsibility for one of the following; Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Fanzine Editor, Entertainment, Travel or Hibs Liaison, then please let either Brian Rogan or myself know before the meeting.  The current committee has been in place for a number of years now and would be more than happy to stand down if someone else fancied running with things for a year or two.

2 posts that will certainly be vacant next season will be Club Secretary and Fanzine editor, as it is my intention to stand down at the AGM.  With so many new members having joined the club over the last few years, it is hoped that one of them will put their name forward for these roles to bring some fresh faces and ideas to the committee.  If required, I will be more than happy to work with the new club secretary to help him/her find their feet.

Champions Ball

The date for the football teams Champions Ball has changed to Saturday 29th July and will take place at the Dukes Meadows Golf Club in Chiswick from 7pm to 2am.  Tickets will cost £25 a head and will include a sit down Dinner, disco and much, much more.  All profits from the evening will go towards purchasing new Hibs strips for the new APFSCIL Champions next season.

If you would like to purchase a ticket or two for what will without doubt be a fantastic evening, then please contact Kevin Robertson.

Nominations for your Player of the Year

If you have not already submitted your nomination for the London Hibs Player of the Year then can you please  do so before Saturday 24th June by  e-mailing your vote to londonhibs@aol.com. The winner will be announced at the AGM on Saturday 24th June with the presentation taking place in Edinburgh in November/December.

LONDON HIBS TRIP TO IRELAND
To celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Hibernian FC, London Hibs is organising a trip to Ireland in August to visit the birthplace of Canon Edward Hannan, who I’m sure you know, was the founding father of Hibernian FC.  This trip was mentioned in an earlier newsletter and has had a good response but it is not too late for you to book if you are interested.

Due to some strong negotiating by Andy Bell, the cost for the weekend has been reduced by over £30 to just £199. This will include 3 days and 2 nights Bed and Breakfast in a 4 star hotel and leisure centre in Limerick with all taxis, flights and a round of golf on the Saturday.  Beer money will of course be extra, but I’m sure you will all agree that this is good value for money

The programme for the 3-day trip is as follows:

Friday 4 August 2000
0910  Fly London Stansted to Shannon Airport, Co Limerick
1040 Arrive Shannon airport.  Transfer to south court hotel complete with 3 indoor pools, gymnasium, Sauna and Solarium.
1400 18 holes at Limerick golf and country club (a 19th hole is available for non players)
1900 Evening in Adare Village – as visited by bonking Billy Clinton

Saturday 5th August 2000

1000  Travel to Ballinfary Village, birthplace of Canon Edward Hannan, founding father of Hibernian FC for a day of football, Guinness and celebration.
1900 A night at the dogs at Limerick Greyhound stadium

Sunday 6 August 2000

The 125th Anniversary of Hibernian FC

A day of rest, culture and guilt trip present shopping at Bunratty castle on the way back to Shannon Airport

1640 Fly back to London Stansted
1810 Arrive back at Stansted

If you have not yet signed up for this trip and are keen to participate or if you would like further information on the weekend, then please speak with Andy Bell on 01622 205084.
