Our
monthly newsletters are a bit like London buses.
You don’t get one for over 5 weeks then two come along within 7
days! The main reason for getting this out to you so soon after the
meeting is to give you some further details about the Burns Night next
Saturday.
At
the moment we have over 110 members with families and friends confirmed as
coming along to the event, but as we would expect to sell quite a few
more, the evening is on track to be the record attendance at any of our
functions in London, so many thanks to all of you who have purchased
tickets.
Hopefully,
everyone who has ordered and paid for their tickets will have received
them by now but if you haven’t, then please give me a call.
A reminder that the evening will start at 7.30pm in Kavanaghs
Public House, which is at 92b Old Brompton Road in South Kensington. The nearest tube station is South
Kensington which is on the Piccadilly, Circle and District lines and
the pub is about 300 metres along the Old Brompton Road on the right hand
side.
If
you have not yet ordered your tickets, but are planning to come along,
then can you please let me know by Tuesday 18 January at the latest as I
must give final numbers to the pub the following day.
The pub can accommodate up to 180 people so there is plenty of room
for additional guests if required.
Please
ensure that you bring your tickets with you as they will be exchanged for
a drink at the bar on your arrival - although you will of course still be
given access to the pub, I must stress that if you forget your ticket,
then you will not receive a free drink as this is our only means of
controlling our bar spend.
I
mentioned in the December newsletter that we would be holding a raffle
during the evening with a weekend in Edinburgh with tickets to the Hearts
match on 18th March as the first prize.
At the January meeting I was asked if this prize was flexible and I
confirmed that it was. So,
if you win the prize and would like to go up for another game or if you
prefer to drive instead of flying then you can of course change it.
The winner of the main prize will be contacted on the Sunday
morning when they can decide what they want to do..
If
you have not done so already, then I have enclosed some more raffle
tickets for you to fill in and send off to Andrew Murray.
Can you please ensure that these are returned to Andrew before
Friday 21st at the address shown on the ticket.
And
finally, as this is very much a Scottish and Hibby evening, can you please
encourage your guests to wear Tartan or Green to give the pub a bit of
colour. You never know, you may even win the prize for the best
turned out man or lady!

Membership List
A
copy of the latest list of members, which includes telephone numbers,
postal address and e-mail address, is attached to the hard copy of this
newsletter sent out to members. Can
you please check your personal details and let me know by telephone or e-mail
of any changes to your information.
You
can also use the list to contact those members who live in your area to
find out where they are planning to watch the Rangers game on Sunday 6th
February.
Travel Update
If
anyone is interested in going to Aberdeen for the game on Saturday 26
February then contact Alex
Lindsay for
details. A number of members
are planning to fly up in the morning from (I believe) Stansted to
Aberdeen, take in the game and fly back in the evening.
The cost is very reasonable if you purchase your flight tickets
early enough, but if the last trip is anything to go by, any money saved
by taking a cheap flight will be spent on alcohol – so you have been
warned!
Alex
Lindsay is talking to Easter Road about the club having 10 hospitality
tickets for the Hearts game on Saturday 18th March.
I’m afraid that I don’t have the details at the moment, but if
you are planning to go up for the game and would like to watch it in
comfort, with some food and beverages before and after, then contact Alex
for details.
Newsletters
If you
have an item of news that you would like to be included in our monthly
newsletters then please give me a call or send me the details.
Whilst the Internet is a good means of promoting the club and
communicating with some of our members, these newsletters are the only way
to pass on useful information about the club’s activities to those who
do not have access to the internet, which is about 50% of our membership.
February Meeting
Our
next meeting will take place in the William Wallace on Tuesday 8 February
starting at 8pm. As our club funds are running a bit low at the moment,
I’m afraid there will be no free drink at this meeting, but Andrew did
say he would ensure that there is a free bar at the first meeting of the
new millennium!
Trip to Ireland
Although
Andy Bell has had lots of members telling him that they will be
participating on the trip to Ireland at the beginning of August, he has
only received a couple of £50
deposits which are required to reserve accommodation and flights.
If you are planning to go on the trip which leaves is from 4 – 7
August then can you please give Andy a call.
