Fanzine
After 20 months of talking, we
have at last got our act together and produced issue 21 of Hibees Here Hibees There. Whilst this may
not the best fanzine we have produced (from a design point of view) it has been hard work
putting it together and I thank all of you who contributed articles for inclusion. If we
sell all of our 800 copies, then the fanzine will not only help promote our supporters
club in Edinburgh, it will also make us a 200 profit, which will go towards subsidising
other activities within the club throughout the season.
Whilst the fanzine is still fresh in our
minds, can I ask you to start thinking about articles for Issue 22 which we are aiming to
have ready for the last home game of the season.
Burns Night Supper:
We are all systems go for yet another
fantastic night out in the Holyrood next Saturday for the "London HIBERNIAN 1999
Burns Night Supper".
As you know, this is the main social event
of the year for our club which has always been an excellent opportunity for those members
who would not normally make the monthly meetings, to meet up with fellow London based
Hibees. It is also a good opportunity to prove to the wife/girlfriend and other friends
that you are not the only 'sad-it' who watches Ceefax page 311 every Saturday afternoon!
If you have not yet ordered your tickets
for evening, then you are not too late as we have some left. However. I must have your
final requirements by Thursday 27 January so I can pass on numbers to the Holyrood. If
necessary, you can pay for your tickets on the night but I must have numbers,
Tickets this year will cost 15 a head
which, although considerably more expensive thin last year, is not too bad for an almost
all-inclusive night out in London. For the benefit of those who were not at the January
meeting, the main reason for this 50% increase is that our food costs have doubled, due
mainly too new management at the pub. We have also asked the live band to play for an
extra hour and this year you will receive a free drink on your arrival in exchange for
your ticket.
I neglected to include the venue on the
tickets, so for those of you who don't know where the Holyrood is, then it is in Wells St,
which is just off Oxford St between Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road. The evening
will start at 7.3Opm and the bar will close at 2pm. As I mentioned in previous
newsletters, Pat Stanton will be our guest of honour for the evening so there will be
plenty of opportunity to have a chat with him, and have some photographs taken - we will
have a camera there too!
Pat will be arriving on the Friday evening
and will be going out for a meal in the Reading area with some of our members. If you
would like to meet up on Friday 29 January for a couple of pints and probably an Indian,
then give me a call - it will be around 8.3Opm. On the Saturday we will be taking Pat to
watch FuIham Vs Northampton, so if you fancy coming along to this game, then give me a
call and I will tell you where will be meeting up.
January Meeting
At the January meeting we welcomed new
member David Drysdale who was the first member to join the club using our new Web Pages on
the Internet We also welcomed back a few old members; Tony Connor and John & Cheryl
Ewan who have been out of touch with the club for a few months.
Welcome back guys!!
As Alex Lindsay was unable to make the
meeting, we could not discuss in detail the trip to Edinburgh, which was proposed at the
December meeting. For our next get together on Tuesday 9 February, Alex and Graeme Walker
will find out what the costs will be for the trip. It was agreed that the club would help
subsidise trip' but until we know exactly what is involved and how many will travel it was
not possible to confirm by how much!!
