Let
me start this short newsletter by wishing you and your family a very Happy
and prosperous New Year, Century and Millennium!
Now to go onto the most important item of news – the Burns Night
which is only a couple of weeks away.!
Burns Night Supper
If
you have not already done so, can you please let me have your order for
tickets to the Burns Night Supper, which as you know will take place on Saturday
22nd January.
This year’s supper will be held in Kavanagh’s Public House,
which is on the Old Brompton Road (No
92b) in South Kensington starting at 7.30pm.
Kavanaghs is an Irish themed bar and is located very close to South
Kensington tube station so it should be is very easy for you to get to.
You are reminded that tickets this year will remain at £15 each but to
encourage you to bring lots of friends and family along to what is
guaranteed to be a brilliant evening, there will be a small discount to
those buying additional tickets.
for details).
For the price of a ticket, not only will you and your guests have a
memorable night out, but you will receive a drink on arrival at the pub, a
traditional meal of Haggis Neeps and Tatties, Live music until 1am and a
wee dram to toast the haggis. This
year’s live music will once again be provided by Sean Brady, who will
play from 9pm through to 1am.
For
the benefit of those members who have not attended a London Hibs Burns
Night before, they are always very enjoyable evenings with a good
combination of both Scottish and Hibby content.
(Click
here
for a report and photos from the 1999 event).
Although they
are fairly informal, we will of course be piping in the Haggis with a
special (amusing) address
by the club’s deputy Chairman, Stuart Donald. You are encouraged to dig
out those kilts and get into the spirit of things, as there will again
be a prize for the most suitably dressed Lady and Gentleman, which will be
announced sometime during the evening.
To
spice up the evening a little bit, we are planning to hold a special
raffle with the first prize being a weekend for two in Edinburgh with
tickets to the Hearts match on Saturday 18th March.
The prize will include return flights from Luton to Edinburgh, 1
night’s accommodation and tickets to the Hearts game.
For those members living in Scotland, this prize can be exchanged
for 2 tickets to an English Premier Division game and 1 night’s
accommodation in London. There will be plenty of other prizes also, which will include
both Hibs and London Hibs merchandise.
Tickets will cost £1 each so can you please make every effort to
sell as many as you can to friends and family before returning them to
Andrew Murray. For those
members unable to come along to the Burns night, this is a good
opportunity for you to support the evening, whilst at the same time giving
you a chance to win some of the excellent prizes.
Eddie
Turnbull will draw the winning tickets on the 22nd January with
the winner being informed of their prizes within 24 hours.
Games
on SKY
Don’t
forget that the Hibs Vs Rangers game on Sunday 6th February
will be live on SKY SPORTS.
For
London based members looking for good company to watch the game, then you
should make your way to the William
Wallace where I’m
sure there will be plenty of fellow Hibbies (and no doubt a few Huns as
well) to enjoy the game with. For those members who live in the Berkshire
area, then we will once again be meeting up in the Bridge Pub in Wokingham
Road, Bracknell and for those members living in the Cambridge area, the
meeting place will be The Maypole (Near the Park Street car park).
If you
live outside these areas and you are looking for other people to watch the
game with, then you should contact members living in your area and arrange
a meeting place. Give me a
call if you do not have an up to date contact list for members
Following
on from the that great result (and performance) against Hearts at
Tynceastle last month, let’s hope the team will turn on the skill for
the cameras once more and give Rangers a long overdue stuffing to take our
TV winning tally to 4 in a row!
Football Team
I
mentioned in the November newsletter that the football team will be
playing against Norwich City in the next round of the APFSCIL
cup on Sunday 16th January.
Well the game is confirmed and will take place at King George’s
Park in Earlsfield (Off Kimber Road) kicking off at 2.15pm
As
always, you are encouraged to give the team your full support at this
game, so please make every effort to go along and cheer the team on to
what will hopefully be a win over one of the top teams in the APFSCIL
league.
Travel to Games
You
are reminded that Alex
Lindsay is the
club’s co-ordinator for people travelling to games in Edinburgh.
If you are planning to go up for a game and you are looking for a
lift, or if you have a spare seat in your own car for someone else to use,
then let Alex know and he will pass your details onto other members if
they contact him.
Golf Challenge
London
Hibs have been challenged by Andrew Murray’s local Pub to a 12 a-side
game of Golf in April. The
date has not yet been confirmed but if you are a keen golfer and would
like to participate, then contact Andrew
Murray who will
hold onto your details until a date has been confirmed.
Hopefully we will discuss this challenge in more detail at the
January meeting.
APFSCIL Dinner/Dance
Grant
Ramsay has asked me to remind members that the annual APFSCIL Dinner and
dance will take place in the New Connaught rooms in Holborn on Friday 25th February.
The club intends to reserve a table at the event, which will have
the Labour MP, and former Sports Secretary, Tony Banks as guest speaker.
If you are interested in attending then
you should contact our APFSCIL representative Grant Ramsay to let him
know. Tickets cost £32 a head.
News from Easter Road
Apart
from the team enjoying a winter break in T&T the main news from Easter Road is that Kenny Miller has
finally signed a new contract and committed himself to Hibs until 2004.
On his current form, this really is fantastic news
as he is without doubt one of the most promising Scottish strikers playing
in the premier league at the moment.
January Meeting
Our
next meeting will take place in the William
Wallace on Tuesday
11 January starting at 8pm. Keeping
up with tradition, the treasurer will buy those members who attend a
millennium pint to kick off the New Year.
Tickets to the Burns Night will be on sale after the meeting along
with London Hibs merchandise so don’t forget to bring your chequebooks!
For those members unable to make the meeting then can you please
complete the enclosed form before returning it to me at the address shown.
On receipt of the order, your tickets will be sent to your home
address.
