One day, a long, long, time ago, there was a wee boy who spent a Saturday afternoon in his back green on Ferry Road listening to a strange noise in the air.

Even though the sun was shining, it sounded like thunder in the distance. The wee boy was puzzled. The 'thunder' would ebb and flow, sometimes it could seem like hours before the noise was heard again. Right around 4 o'clock, a glow could be seen in the sky where the noise came from.

What was this strange thing in the sky ?
Every other week, the wee boy would run into his back green, and position himself on top of the wall that separated the railway from his house. Sure enough, along would come the noise followed by a glow in the sky around 4 o' clock. One day, the wee boys mum, who worked in Spiers Bar in Goldenacre, announced :
"I was talking to two students last night and they asked if you wanted to go to the football match tomorrow ?"
"Football ? Who are the teams mum and where is the match ?"
"Hibs are playing Rangers in Leith"
"Leith ? Is that where the Hospital is that we go to every summer holiday's when I break my arm ?"
"Well it's near there, you take the same bus"
"Oh, okay, I'll go with them then"

Saturday afternoon :
Two young men, arrived at the door and I heard them say "We're here to take the wee boy to the game"
The wee boy found himself standing in the bus shelter outside his house waiting for the number 1 bus to go to the game. His mum had put different amounts of money in different pockets with verbal instructions
" This money is for your bus fare there and this money is for a program and this money is to get in to the game and this money is for sweeties at the game and this money is for your bus fare home and this money is for a white pudding supper on your way to the bus stop to come home."
The wee boy was amazed at how many pockets he had and wondered why when he tried to walk his legs didn't work ! The vivid memory that the wee boy carried was one of being 'lifted over' and realizing he had a lot more "sweetie money".

THEN CAME A CLIMB TO THE TOP OF THE WORLD !

The wee boy huffed and puffed as the most beautiful thing he had ever seen came into full view...a big green patch surrounded by lots of people and a big shed at one end a HUGE shed that took up all of one side.
The wee men came running out of the tunnel and the wee boy instinctively gave out a cheer when the men in green ran out. The game was spent sitting up on the shoulders of the two young men. A funny thing happened that afternoon...... about four o'clock there was a kind of buzzing and flickering and the air was slowly filled with light coming from 4 big towers in the corners of the ground. Shortly thereafter, the wee boy heard a thunderous cheer and somehow felt right at home....sort of like when he was sitting in his back green on a Saturday. Another of one of life's great mysteries was solved that day when a wee boy who lived on Ferry Road knew what he was going to be for the rest of his life, A Hibby !

The end
