Letter from America.....

A team searching for it's identity, trying to live with the ghosts of it's past. The 'Glory Days' , the players held above mere mortals , miraculous finishes, fans questioning the motives of an owner, a manager rumoured to be on the move. Hibernian ? The San Diego Chargers actually.

Winston Churchill said that the differences between us and America was that " We are two peoples separated by a common language". You would think that we might be able to learn from past mistakes, whether they lay with our own organisation or others. The one commonality that I can vouch for is the emotion shown which reaches out to each and every one of us.............. passion.

When the Chargers play Kansas City it's a Hibs v's Hearts affair. When the Chargers play the Raiders, it's a v's Huns affair, trust me, I've been to all events and I know from where I speak.

Charger fans are an easy going bunch, they love their team, they have a heritage which dictates they play daring, attacking, football . Great players like Dan Fouts , their Pat Stanton , Kellen Winslow, their Lawrie Reilly, are still very vocal in the community. There is a difference though , these players are honored by their club. Their numbers were retired , they hold audience before big games, San Diego is a community who remembers, through actions , with affection what those players did for their club.

I feel shame at the way we have treated the pillars on which Easter Road was built . I am sure that what the current Board and Ownership have missed , is the opportunity to do the right thing and show that they have a clue as to what their fans care about .

The fans of San Diego are absolutely no different than Hibees , well almost . If Dan Fouts were treated the way that Pat Stanton has been, ownership would have known the sentiments the following home game by empty seats and front pages screaming at them. Americans are nothing if not vocal. They do not, accept what is blatantly wrong.

Hibernian fans, if nothing else, are resolute. I believe that we have an opportunity to take part in an issue which will be documented for judgement at a later time by future generations. How we care to be perceived, only time will tell . I for one, want to go on public record by saying that Pat Stanton was and is the embodiment of everything that I know as Hibernian . Were I in a geographical position to do so, I would petition through any medium available for Mr. Stanton to ensure that the club recognise, through actions his rightful position as youth scout. Just one Hibby's opinion....
