Report
The pitch was again a quagmire; still at least it was
a little better than the Boro pitch in that it wasnt raining. Injury,
complacency and people going into great big huffs saw the shock return of
the three amigos John Stevenson; Eddie McAdam and Kevin Robertson.
Eddie and Kevin used to play in the very early days of the league and
before, until Eddie left for sunnier climes and Kevin left himself get as
fat as John Ls ego.
There was enough strength in critical areas to make
this irrelevant. Rangers C were not the team we had faced in the cup last
year they were 4 players weaker than that. Still, having watched the
video this week I can confirm that there were enough to appease some
feelings of revenge. Adam gets man of the match because again he was
outstanding. The game is a bit hazy right now, because its been a
hectic week in between times. But we were all over them early doors and a
lovely cross to the back post by Neil Henty headed back in to the box saw
the unlikely suspect Leon Ashford heading home his first of the season and
our first of the game no probs Leon;-))
So 1-0 and Grant was skipping past there unfit
defence at will, at the same time Rob was in total TAM FORSYTH mode eating
up the soft centres and catharting some angst in the process. The second
goal was a scrappy one from a corner, with Adam finally knocking home,
there were more fresh air shots in this move than Scot Drummond and Kevin
Robertson have together in a round of golf;-))
Bryn was the man responsible for feeding a voracious
Grant Ross, who was skipping through the grass/mud like a gazelle, the
rest of the team meanwhile lumbering like Hippos in mud out of this
Bryn played a clean ball through and Grants awesome pace left the defence
for dead and his football finishing finally matched his finishing
elsewhere 3-0 and Half Time.
Eddie McAdam was substituted for yours truly, he had
done a job in midfield on a day when we were short of players, there were
some flashes of old, but his fitness, as he will be the first to admit,
needs some work, particularly for pitches like this.
Second Half:
Rangers C were clearly pissed off at the prospect of
me lumbering into their midst. And now even the club president is coming
after all these years absence, ho ho you must be really poor! So they
immediately scored a scrappy goal from our point of view. It owed more to
Eddie Waring and Rugby league than silky football. So 3-1 now.
Grant, who was tireless in his running was released on
the right and neared goal, with me and JL thinking hell shoot hell
miss, but the mans composure resulted in 4-1.
Next up was Bryn, with Adam collecting a pass and
volleying to Bryn who then controlled and drilled home for number 5. Next
up was half the team; the defence who had been impeccable all day (Jim
staying white and Kev getting clarty) started the move. Kev Ford knocked
it to Adam, who knocked it to me. I controlled and passed back one two to
Ads, he then knocked left to Neil who beat their despairing left back the
cross was met by Bryn who finished with aplomb 6-1 and I is thinking nae
bad!
The final goal is yet another reason why Adam is
awarded this MOM, he picked up a ball that broke in midfield and whilst it
was no Waltz he kinda danced through their defence, taking one of their
players a wee tour of the box, beating him three times. The goalie was
like the last skittle in ten pin bowling, eventually toppling to jink
number 14 by Adsyp before he struck home his second and the teams 7th
goal.
Fantastic stuff.
The quality of any great team in my opinion is marked
by a solid defence, a creative midfield and a strong, battling pacey
forward line. We had it all in this game. John was immense and helped
break their hearts when they managed to beat our IRON CURTAIN of a defence,
with Rob in tenacious form and slim Jim breaking at will, freeing up Kev
and Leon to attack attack attack. This created havoc and pulled Rangers
all over the place leaving gaps that Neil and Adam could move in to and
release our superb attack. It is a further testimony to our strength that
we can be so seemingly weak missing 8 players and still come out
emphatically on top.
Summary: We must keep this form up and deal
with the very tough challenge that will come from Bristol.
Well done
Kevin
President London Hibs Football Team
(Thanks to Adam for reminding me exactly what
happened, I was too knackered myself to see what was going on;-)) But I do
know I tried to scored and was too fecked to direct it properly still the
intent was there!)
