Match Review
This performance is like the Middlesboro game; there
was no time when I thought we would not come of the pitch as victor. From
the minute Rangers scored their first and Jim their midfielder made a
zipping sign across his mouth at me I knew the game was ours. Perhaps
its the bonding on Friday; perhaps its the many separate friendships
that have developed independent of this great wee club or perhaps as a
group we are winners through and through and that always shows.
Their first goal was fair enough, the defence being
caught a bit and the ball drilled home. 1-0 Rangers. Then Adam Pomaro
scored his first of three, a ball passed/shot throw by an on form Leigh
I aint being funny Everett, Adsyp somehow managing to get his
head to it, levelling it 1-1.
Moving on toward half time saw another Rangers attack
with a suspicion of off side, but the Referee who is regarded as the best
in the league awarded the goal, so we were 2-1.
John Leslie clearance saw the ball travel to the
other box and a Rangers player handling it, the ref awarded a free kick
from which nothing came. Though there was suspicion from our forwards that
it was a penalty.
Half Time 2-1 Rangers.
We changed little at half time, as the opinion of the
Management team and the players was that we would draw level. In the
second half we began to take control of the game. Working in an unusual
formation. Dave Drysdale playing in a free role behind the front two with
Grant and Gerry V up front. In the middle Adam Leigh and Russell, flanking
were Neil Henty and Leon Ashford and at the back Jim Rob and John.
Our passing improved and the tenacity of the team
came shining through, this resulted in a move with Adam running at the
core of the Rangers defence dancing elegantly through playing a one two of
Gerry V, the resulting space giving a one on one challenge for Adam to
slot confidently home 2-2. This is when our winner mentality came shining
through, we dug for victory. Dave Drysdale came off and Kevin Ford came on
galvanising our defensive ability and adding the dynamic attacking option
of those deep throw ins!
While Rangers stepped up through the gears, so did
Hibs making for a fraught and torrid time. Gerry V and Grant were being
fed relentlessly from Midfield with Stinson at his best. They failed to
convert time after time, but the pressure was beginning to tell as the
number of bookings (3 to Rangers 1 to us) reflecting the direction of
play. A ball down the right wing, played in to the centre and collected by
Gerry V, resulted in him carrying it in to the box, where the Rangers gent
PAUL at centre back made a challenge, hitting the ball, but critically
blocking Gerry Vs run The referee had no hesitation in pointing to
the spot. Given his overall excellence I cant really argue, though
Im sure our rivals would. Adam stepped up and belted the ball the
keepers right, he made contact with, but it was powerfully struck so the
goalie merely altered its path to its inevitable destination THE BACK OF
THE POKEY
3-2 Hibs and deservedly so. The game was over about 5
minutes later.
Man of the Match
Not a tough one really Adam Pomaro, passenger
Pomaro paid full fare today and worked his nuts off, even making the odd
header and astonishingly getting a free kick against him for whisper it
an aggressive challenge
Summary
It took years for my team to beat Charlie Logans
Rangers, but its been worth it. We have won the last four games we have
played against them and this season more than any look to assert our
predominance in the APFSCIL league. It was a tough game, but the spirits
right and we have a got a team worthy of the name and worthy of being
