A solid rather than
spectacular performance saw Hibs record their third consecutive away
victory and maintain an unblemished record. Gerry V was
missing through a holiday injury (?) but this was more
than compensated as Russell made a welcome return from injury, George
Wright guested and David made a thoroughly encouraging debut as a second
half substitute. This must have been one of the strongest sides
London Hibs have fielded.
After a slow start, Hibs began
to impose themselves with Geo showing his class in midfield with some
powerful surges. Leigh and Simon added the width from full back as
we started with 3 forwards and no wide midfielders. Some great
crosses were put into their box but luck deserted us and the loose
balls always seemed to fall their way. A few chances went begging
and we turned round level.
The first goal would be all
important and with Slim Jim and Leon in dominant form we never looked like
conceding. As chances came and went we started to over elaborate as
the frustration grew. Simple balls weren't played and all the
midfield and forwards were guilty in this respect. We
mustn't develop bad habits like this - they die hard.
With 25 minutes remaining we
broke the deadlock. Adam swung over a free-kick from the right which
was cleared back to him. This was volleyed straight back into the
danger area where Bryn controlled, swivelled and volleyed home in an
instant. Inspiration when it was needed most. This took the
stuffing out of a hard working but limited Bristol side and it was now a
case of how many. Hibs started playing with freedom and
Graeme soon added a second after a fine move down the right
resulted in David crossing perfectly for him to slot home.
Adam hit the bar with a
free-kick and their 'keeper handled some efforts competently but the
inevitable third arrived with a composed finish from David who took on the
last defender before looking up and side footing home.
Overall another good result
with the defence looking especially strong. John had only one save
of note to make and this provides the platform for our attacking
options to flourish. We have a lot of goals in us this season as can
be seen from the first 3 games. However the passing and movement at
times was static and needs to be worked on but Rome wasn't built in a
day.
