On Sunday 15 November 1998 the
London Hibs football team played their APFSCIL Cup game against the Manchester Utd
Supporters Club. This was expected to be a hard game since our opponents undoubtedly have
the biggest selection to choose from, and had won the league only two years before.
The Hibs side fielded was as strong as I've seen and there was a squad of 17 to choose
from. The game started quite evenly until we took the lead after 15 minutes. Man Utd
equalised only minutes later when a lucky deflection too the ball past Hibs 'keeper, John
Leslie.
This was enough to kick the Hibs team into action. Some determined tackling at the back
saw that they didn't add to their score, while we put in another 3 before half-time.HT London Hibs 4 vs 1 Man Utd.
Man Utd were still up for it,
but the boys in green could smell a hiding in the offing, and so it transpired. Another 6
second half goals saw the Hibs representatives beating the Red Devils an impressive 10
goals to 1.
I'll say that again: London Hibs 10 vs 1 Man Utd :-)
(this should at least please John Lowe!)
Well done to everybody involved, and we now look forward to the Cup Qtr-finals in January.
