Paul1642

Looks like the Hibs of 2 months ago shows the lack of depth in our squad

We are crying out for a sub yet looking at the bench, I don’t blame Gray for not making one.

I think the lack of changes confirm that none of the current bench are in our plans.

I love that we're winning, the main thing by a mile today, and get that there's fatigue, but you'd be hard pushed to persuade me we can't move the ball and our shape around a bit better against 10 men. Some short phases of play, movement and decision making here that are way below what you'd expect.

It's never been explained to me how playing with a one man advantage is so difficult. I remember Craig Levein moaning about it when 10 man Hibs beat them at ER (O'Connor smashing it past Moilanen).

Huge, huge win. This is exactly the kind of game we'd have drawn or even lost 6 weeks ago.

It wasn't pretty but Killie are hard team to beat and we finished that game without Myko, Bowie, Youan, Newell and Iredale.

If we can get players back to fitness and bring in 2-3 more then we're in for a really exciting second half of the season.

The second half was pretty dire, but overall we battled hard and dug in defensively at times when asked. As much as I was nervous I also didn't really feel like we were under that much of a threat to concede. Compare that to 6 weeks ago and the transformation is quite remarkable.

My only real negative is that once you get beyond our starting XI or even beyond our starting centre mid pair we really drop off in quality. Kwon isn't the answer and it's clear Gray doesn't think Levitt, JDH, Amos etc are either. We need to shift 2 or 3 of them on and bring in someone of real quality that can maybe play number 10 as well.

But for now, well done SDG on this turnaround you've managed over, to be 4 points off fourth going into a game against the team rock bottom of the league is very impressive stuff considering how we all felt going into that first Aberdeen game.

The Captain....
29-12-2024, 04:03 PM
Great win, I don't really care if it wasn't a great performance tbh. Backing up the derby win with another 3 points was all that was required.

It's like we don't know what to do.

Think we managed the game well in the 2nd half. Killie were always going to come at us with them being 1 goal down and after the sending off we spread out and knocked the ball about well, making them run long distances to try and win the ball back. Sensible thing to do just a few days after the derby.

Our wee winning run extended, what's not to like.

Thought Levitt should have come on - probably for Campbell - after the red card. An ideal situation for him to come on when we wanted to keep the ball against ten men and look to pick them off as they tried to get the equaliser.

Kwon was poor when he came on but that's all I'll say on the negatives.

Great to get another three points although we made hard work of it towards the end. Top men for me were Iredale, Miller, Triantis and Boyle. Miller had a great game on the right of the defence and the number of headers he won was incredible. A couple of bad decisions in the opposition box but he was my MOTM. Also a shout out to Smith who is looking more confident and assured with each game.

On to the next one against St J. Lets keep it going. Excellent run.

So pleased with that result. I couldn’t even guess how many times I’ve seen Hibs lose games off the back of a big win. It’s a best turnaround in form I remember seeing from a Hibs team. I was sure we were certs for relegation. It wasn’t a great performance but what I loved was how much we looked liked a decent SPL team. Nothing amazing but also didn’t look like the type of team that would lose goals in, say, the 97th and 99th minutes from a winning position.

Much maligned Miller was a rock at the back today, winning everything thrown at him. MOTM for me was Triantis, who took control of midfield when Newell went off. Overall, an incredible run of wins and performances by Hibs. Today was never likely to be pretty but Hibs found a way to win it which is all that matters. Another great 3 points

:agree: getting a result even if a bit ugly after the high of a couple of games (same points anyhow) is what better teams manage - as mentioned we have failed to do that often so this result is actually for me bigger than the 2 previous. Managing heavy schedule and injuries and using squad is also a massive part of the game that we have been appalling at in recent years - we have done it well this month and still have 3 or 4 players to come back and the transfer window so we are looking in decent shape - will be doing cart wheels if we can get 4 points out of next 2 games

It’s mostly a defence of his player for the sending off, which is understandable I guess, but I thought his views on the game itself were pretty pragmatic.

He’s a prick. You’re getting a yellow all day long if you don’t get the ball. After you’ve been booked for elbowing someone. Should be having a moan about his own team for their total lack of discipline this season.

I thought it was quite pleasing to do to McInnes what a McInnes team has done to us plenty.

more than a full house at the Budge Arena

That's really quite annoying as said was completely sold out for last few days and I couldn't get a ticket.

Actually thought at the game that the second yellow could have been a straight red. Having seen it back, it’s never even a yellow.

It’s definitely a yellow.

Not being green tinted specs on here

But the second yellow Armstrong got causes the injury to iredale

Clearly in some discomfort at the end of the game walking / limping round with ice pack on his foot.

For that alone, says to me there was some sort of contact

I think the yellow is just pure stupidity for Armstrong

Even though I don’t think it’s a yellow, I don’t think it’s an absolutely horrendous mistake from the ref to give a yellow. He’s went steaming in, not touched the ball and Iredale has went down in discomfort

Contact is from iredale clearing the ball and there’s a follow through which makes him connect with Armstrong. You see bookings for those sort of tackles every week on defenders

However, I’d say if Porteous elbowed Morelos for example in the same way Armstrong cause Cadden he’d have been given a straight red

3 minutes in shows the tackle from a different angle. Looks a booking in that angle to me

Check out the link i put on the Sportscene thread of the tackle as seen from the Killie end.
It's a reckless lunge and a booking all day every day.

If there’s contact then I’d agree it’s a yellow. I don’t think it looks like there is though.

McInnes post match.

It’s mostly a defence of his player for the sending off, which is understandable I guess, but I thought his views on the game itself were pretty pragmatic.

He’s articulated himself well but he’s still wrong.

Tough game, great crowd, not easy on the eye but the result is all that matters for now, the silky football can come later when we are going for 3rd.
