I’m in the Gray must go camp but, to be fair, I don’t think we were as awful as some folk are making out. Things again conspired against us but I suppose some will say you make your own luck.

Best we've been over the last three games. Deserved to win.
3 shots on target at home against a poor team in a must win game.

It doesn't really matter. We're bottom.
The table doesn’t lie. We are the worst team in the league
I'm speaking about today. And yes, improved performances do matter.

Nothing to do with gray.
Running out of ideas about 70 mins. Myko doing nothing, no hold up play isn't looking like scoring. Midfield looking leggy and getting deeper waiting for the inevitable. That's when you need management. Youan had to come on to give us an out and threat up top. Said it watching it, Gray will do nothing and watch it play out and Youan will come on as soon as the United goal goes in when it's too late. Step forward Youan coming on at 90 mins at 1-1. Too late.
Obvious had to change it sooner, was screaming out for it - how can that not be on the manager.
Also game we dominated yet goal apart, United keeper hasn't made a save.
We can change it or we can go down

That was a disgraceful refereeing performance by ref and VAR. Disgusting corrupt Ars#holes the lot of them. No way this is down to David Gray
100% .. nothing Gray can do when we are repeatedly getting shafted by corrupt officials..
Really is about time the club called it out for what it is in all.

I thought we played pretty well today overall. Still issues, but I thought we did ok all things considered. We got shafted imo.
Same here. We were the better team by a long shot. Even after we went down to 10 we were better than them. But it's goals that win games and we're not creating enough clear cut chances and we've no one up front who can score from half chances.

Played well (relatively) but our inability to put games to bed ultimately cost us again. With the performance and control we had a two goal lead shouldn't have been beyond us. Especially as we know how brittle we are in closing stages.
Tbh there was a slight tug for their pen, but it was nowhere near where the ball was going, was minimal and is the kind of thing you see dozens of times in a game. I'm still surprised it was given.
I'm very pessimistic after that, I just don't think we're capable of winning enough matches to avoid a protracted relegation battle. Even when we play "well" we aren't winning. I'm beyond being angry now, acceptance has settled in, I can't see any way we get out of this with the clowns we have at every level making decisions. Not including Gray in that, he'll no doubt lose his job, but I afford him a level of respect for his previous heroics. He's been set up to fail by a club that has no idea what direction it wants to go in or how to get there.

When you only score one goal you always run the risk of ended up with 1 point rather than 3.
For all the possession we done nothing with it as usual. This will happen time and time again and we’ll be playing in the championship next season.
The same happy clappers will be on telling us the next game is a must win, just like the last god knows how many and we’ve not managed to win any.
Utter crap.
If the worst team in the league is us then Dundee Utd are almost as bad, I would say even worse than us. yet they have taken 4 points out of six in the last two weeks from our games.
That would suggest to me we are the worst team of the two.

We had a lot of the ball, but we dont really do anything with it, their keeper has not had to save anything all day.
Once again we are toothless, and another two points gone, i think Gray is toast, mainly because he does not have the players to get him out this mess, and he's not good enough either.
This is going to be a bloody fight to stay up, and i dont think we have the fight for it.

No wonder the team is soft as **** when you look at some of the excuses being made and comments about playing well the last few weeks. We’re bottom of the league, is this just passing folk by? But we’re playing half decent in spells now and again 😂

I honestly cannot believe what I've just seen from VAR. multiple replays to even see what a pen is given for, then O'Hora is clearly pulled to the ground and var check over without even stopping play. bunch of cheating *******s. that's not incompetence its blatant cheating!I'm simply disinterested in this version of Hibs so the passionate shouting about this stuff isn't there for me for now.
It therefore makes it really easy to say there's something seriously wrong with refereeing for any game at this level when the same decision isn't given for these two events in the same game with the same officials and VAR.

Even though I blame the officials for two of the most utterly ridiculous decisions I have ever seen in all my years following this club, Gray is not working out. I wanted it to work. I’m still not sure if it’ll even make any difference sacking him. But it’s inexcusable now. These players are not winning games under this coach. We are in a relegation fight and need to be ruthless.

True, but even the best players can only score from half chances on occasion which doesn't carry a team through an entire season. So having a player of that quality wouldn't make a significant difference anyway. We make it far too easy for teams to sit in deep against us and we don't do enough to force mistakes from them.

I don’t think we played badly
But today was a must win, as was Wednesday. We’ve yet again showed we’re incapable of winning games of football.
We hardly create good chances, rarely score and concede easy goals every week
The players need to hold their hands up, but so does Gray.
He’s doing the exact same thing every week and expecting a different result, it’s not happening.
He’s not even thought about a complete change of shape etc, same every week

Weak and feeble. As per usual and all the Celticesque chat and excuses about conspiracies and refereeing decisions isn’t cutting it. Gray out
Hard to disagree. Something has to change here. Where is our next win coming from? The coaching staff have not got a clue how to manage the last 15 minutes of a game.
If the players collectively are nervous wrecks then that's down to the management and coaching. Naivety beyond belief and embarrassing.

Dundee United were absolutely honking today, we were given loads of space and time on the ball under no pressure from them, and we were unable to create anything. A decent team would have strolled that game today. Agree they got a soft penalty, but if you cant put the game to bed then the opposition have nothing to lose and can go 5hit or bust in the last 15 mins.
We should take a look at ourselves before blaming a VAR decision, it should never have came down to that.

Mate if any other team in the league had this sort of form the manager would be gone, let alone a team that aspires to be the third best in the country.
People can try defend SDG all they want, but the stats are there for all to see

1 win
5 defeats

If you think we played well today you either need your eyes tested or have very low standards. We were the better team but that's not saying much and makes the result even harder to take. We have absolutely ZERO creativity top end of the park. I lost count the amount of times our final ball found a Dundee Utd defender today. We are an absolutely awful team to watch and teams must absolute relish playing against us at the minute.

The club have indeed set him up to fail, but he was delusional to take the job in the first place. Employing MM was adding another chef to the already over flown kitchen in my opinion. Too many guys trying to pull the club in many directions. Recruitment has been unacceptable, Simon Murray being a public transfer target with a number of bids made rang enough alarm bells for me to know we have really lowered our standards. If we get relegated then they only have themselves to blame for employing yesmen coaches with limited coaching experience.

But we are still not managing to score enough goals and teams know we will concede in the later part of a game
It’s happening to often and it’s why we are stuck at the bottom of the League
My worry is we have injuries and are getting players sent off them missing games With so many games to play in short space of time after the break it’s a worry for me .progress needs to be accompanied with wins or nothing really changes re league position

I thought we played well relative to how we have played this season. But you're right, it's not really saying a whole lot. 3 shots on target from 13 attempts, with 2 of those shots being routine saves really does sum things up. We never really look like scoring a lot of goals in a game, even if we manage to score the odd goal. I still thought we did enough for the 3 points today though and the VAR decision was a very selective one that would be overlooked in the vast majority of those situations.

I’ve thought the same since a few weeks back when folk thought beating St Johnstone at home (when we weren’t even good) and “just” losing at Ibrox was a sign we were improving, or turning things round.
We’re *****. We’ve replaced a ***** manager who wasn’t getting the most out of anyone but had Maolida pulling us out of the ****, to Gray who just isn’t really doing anything.
Nothing will ever change how much SDG is a Hibs legend to me, but he should never have got the job, and keeping him in it is a massive mistake.

The question is, when are we actually going to win a game? Chucking games and points repeatedly in the last 10 minutes can only go on for so long.
While we're far from being a good side, there is no way that group of players should be rank bottom of the league, considering some of the dogs1te teams we're playing.
Mental strength and composure is non-existent and that's unacceptable.

This for me .St Mirren up next is another must win game but it’s hard to see how we will do that if we can’t score two goals and can’t stop giving away cheap goals and getting players sent off

We’re ****ed. I just don’t see where a win comes from. We repeatedly put ourselves in winning positions but find different ways of throwing it away. Not seen the penalty back so can’t really comment on that but the game should have been done well before that. We were in total control but just really lack any proper quality in the final third. It’s just all crosses and hoping something may drop. Very little quality though.
We’re not fit enough to get through games either. Players were out on their feet from about 75 minutes. We had subs ready for ages but by the time we got them on the park the ball was in the net and we were down to 10.

If you think we played well today you either need your eyes tested or have very low standards. We were the better team but that's not saying much and makes the result even harder to take. We have absolutely ZERO creativity top end of the park. I lost count the amount of times our final ball found a Dundee Utd defender today. I couldn't care less if the penalty was harsh we only have ourselves to blame for not punishing a poor Dundee Utd team that were there for the taking.
We are an absolutely awful team to watch and teams must absolute relish playing against us at the minute.
I won't be back at Easter Road again until massive changes are made starting with Gray getting his jotters tomorrow. Can safely say his team are the hardest watch even in comparison to Johnson, Monty and Maloneys hibs.
See you then :nanawave:

Gray to blame for that today. Why did he hang off making the subs? He makes these changes 10 mins sooner when we couldn’t keep the ball we win that game. Very disappointing but not surprising outcome yet again. At least he made the right subs this time. Just screwed the timing.

Players gave it their all today. Turned out not to be enough but they're not playing like a team resigned to their fate. I think it's still too early to write them off. We need to stay in touch until January, bring in a decent signing or two and hope that Bowie recovers more quickly than expected.

Wether it was a penalty or not the bottom line is we are bang average.
United where there for the taking but out front play is dreadful.

We weren't utter garbage today. Folk are just raging at yet another late loss of points.
We're toiling but you can tell the players are behind the boss. Beforehand I felt a win was pretty much essential but I thought we showed enough to suggest we can remain competitive enough not to get cut adrift. Not exactly a high bar but we can't just keep ripping things up and starting again. It gets us nowhere.
Look forward to Davie Gray at the helm in the championship next season then because that is exactly where we will be with him in charge. We pulled the trigger on Jack Ross and Maloney too quick but I don't feel the same with Gray. I get absolutely zero sense he can turn this around. This team is by far the worst out of the last 5 managers.

Lots of people with excuses and trying to find positives but we are in a situation where we need to win games and fast. Draws are crap.
1 win and lose 1 (3 points ) is better than 2 draws and being defeated in 2 (2 points).
We needed a 2nd goal today - our failure to do so allowed us to be edgy / nervy and common trait of getting deeper and deeper then giving the opposition a way back into the game.
Utd were awful today - game was there for the taking but while we dominated large parts of it we didn’t exactly create loads of good opportunities.
I stayed right till the end but it’s becoming hard and harder to defend constant disappointment and for various reasons losing late goals.
If we don’t win next week it’s 100% we need a change - that doesn’t mean just the manager - staff in senior roles and restructuring of staff / new coaching staff.
Right now it’s 90% but if we beat St Mirren then he gets another week to beat Dundee. Fail to win the next 2 and I think he has to go as we aren’t suddenly going to drastically improve.
My concern is the muppets doing the recruitment and zero trust in them plus they will be stuck with the same unbalanced squad and players.

The goalie has sold the buns again for me, I’m afraid. Instead of gathering the ball in the previous passage of play (and risk getting a whack for his trouble) he lamely pushed it out for a corner, and from that corner the penalty decision is given.
That may sound overly critical, but the same thing happened last week against that lot when he spilled the through ball and then next passage of play the ball was in the net.
It wasn’t his fault for the eternity it took for the bench to make the substitution though…poor decisions by inexperienced individuals is costing us dearly, but how do we fix it?

Today's a decent performance, relatively speaking. That's heavily caveated with it being a game that an opposition did next to nothing, yet we never really looked like making it 2-0.
As long as we look a fair bit away from properly killing teams off - and we do - the current state of affairs is likely going to persist. We might end up scraping one win from five or six in time, but there's usually going to be something that costs us two or three points.

Why? He’s a footballer and a defender. For me even though Boyle had an ineffective game, he was basically taken out of the game having no right back. Gray took an age to make the subs and when he did they were forced upon him with the sending off. Just poor management yet again, players had ran their socks off but Triantis, Newell, Hoilett and Myko were done about an hour or so in and it needed freshened up.
Triantis had a pretty poor game and Myko is not doing the job he is supposed to do as link up play non existent and never in the right place when a cross comes in. I think we have the players to move to 352 and it might be worth a try given the results have been missing playing 433 and 4231.

Thought we played well today and dominated large parts of the game. Defence coped with Middleton a lot better and limited them to very little in terms of chances and possession. For most of the first half Dundee United struggled to get out of their half as we had them pegged back. we got our self into a few good positions but the final ball was lacking.
SDG must be scunnered with the refereeing decisions and being let down by players he should really be able to trust. Hopefully things start to go in his favour and manages to string a few positive results together and make his position safe.

Find it absolutely incredible that some on here think we played well today. Not our worst performance from a defence perspective and certainly the better team against a very very poor utd team. We limited them to a couple half chances but going forward we are absolutely eye bleeding. Slow and tepid with very little quality. Lost count of the amount of times our final ball was scooped up by the utd defence. Hoilett the only pass however can see clearly dosent have the legs anymore and was burst after an hour.
Boyle looks a shadow of the player he was before we went to Qatar and another fairly anonymous performance Newell. 200 appearances for the club and lucky if he turns up for 1 in 5 games IMO.
Yes the penalty was harsh and but we should have put them to sword long before that penalty was given. Another late goal lost and teams above us pulling away.

As a rank average golfer, the saying “no pictures on the scorecard” come to mind. We are bottom after a third of the season, we are not changing a team of players anytime soon so David’s on a hiding to nothing.
Our major concern is Malky stepping in as the board have shown that they are not listening to BK. That’s the other saving grace for DG…Malky won’t have the players playing for him

At the game today
My take is newell is no leader - how many times will we lose late goals.
Would not have happened under yogi
Boyle his pace is gone. Can’t beat a man now
We defended well for 80 mins but the team is so fragile and have no confidence to see a game out. Definitely in a relegation battle unless we stop losing late goals.
Dundee Utd were awful and crazy how they are 8-10 points above us

We were fine hysterical hyperbole to say we weren’t. We were so comfortable and they were only scoring with a pen.
Dundee United never looked like scoring, unless the match officials intervened, and handed them a penalty on a plate.
Until the match officials did just that, we were looking extremely comfortable to see the match out to a deserved win.
Can't blame David Gray for the draw, when we were easily the better side, and I thought the central defensive pairing were excellent today.

It absolutely happened. Got to about 70 mins and we started to retreat deeper. United were getting on the ball, midfield were looking leggy. It was becoming more open and space opening up. We never looked like getting a second. Myko up top on his own was ineffective, never looked like scoring. That's the time we needed to put Youan on. Said watching it he wouldn't until the inevitable United goal when it would be too late. He tried to hold what we had when Youan gives them something to think about and defend against. Put him on and go for it. Put him up with Myko. Affect the game. Just took far too long and was too little too late.
Exactly how I saw the game too.
Yes, we've been done over by another dodgy decision, but, once again, we've been our own worst enemy by inviting pressure upon ourselves in the closing stages.
It's happened once too often for it to be anything other than dreadful game management.

I don't think we did much wrong today. We pressed far better. Had a decent shape until Miller got injured and for the most part we defended really well. We are poor in teh final third but we got a good goal and did but some decent bits of play together
I was sat in the Directors area today and Cadden and Gayle sat behind me and it would have been a pretty easy game to manage if they were on the bench. As it was we didn't have an option to play right back, apart from maybe Rocky, and SDG went 343. Boyle up to that point hadn't been in the game but he then lost any attacking threat and struggled down that side. We had Cadden and Rudi waiting to come on for five minutes before they scored but never got the chance to make the change.
I always think you can tell when players want the manager sacked. It was obvious with Calderwood and Butcher. Regardless of the result the way we went after them with 10 men and the huge disappointment of their equaliser says to me the squad is behind SDG and do have a bit about them. The issue is we simply don't have a decent centre forward and our wingers are not contributing at the moment. If Bowie had stayed fit I think we are a different side but he is out and we need to find a way of starting to hold the ball and score more regularly. I wonder if Youan could do a job the at the back.
To me our biggest issue is centre forward. We desperately need to be looking at bringing someone in during the window. I'd also be get Megwa back

There hasn’t been any lack of support. The support is actually holding up remarkably well in the circumstances. Any other manager would be getting slaughtered in the stadium, he’s not because of who he is despite it clearly not working.

3 games in a week is a pathetic excuse. Newell in particular showed a complete lack of composure and quality, never mind leadership.
For those claiming we were never in any danger, how/why did we keep conceding free kicks in and around our box?
We are an awful team and Gray is learning nothing. Where was the urgency to get a 2nd goal? Surely everyone in the ground knew we needed a 2nd goal.

Out of interest - who do you think looked more likely to win it after the penalty and throughout injury time?
I thought Hibs looked more likely. Was that because Youan and Molotnikov gave us fresh legs and an attacking threat? Was it that we attacked more in search of a winner? Certainly pushed higher - Ekpiteta was collecting balls on the right wing at the death. Whatever it was there was more intent to go on for another goal at 1-1 than there was at 1-0, which is my point. He never went out to push for the 2nd at 1-0, he tried to keep it as it was. Changes, be it personnel or team pushing further up, came too late.

Nah. They made a number of unforced errors.
A good level of performance would have punished them in the first half and scored at least 2 goals. They were never going to be so poor in the second half and indeed they missed a great chance within 10/15 mins of the restart.

Exactly this 💯. Dundee United were garbage but we failed, despite some neat football to put them away. Accepting this performance as being good is everything that’s wrong with Hibs. We could and should have destroyed them today but we were meek and indecisive and allowed a pish team to get a foothold back into the game.
Really good post.
Same with the Derby - should have won that if we were just bit better.
Utd got bood off at half time and the my were the quietest away support this season until the penalty.
We needed a 2nd goal but just couldn’t produce any quality in the next 70 mins of play.

For all the ball we had, we did pretty much nothing in the second half other than put a lot of crosses in and force a lot of corners. We rarely look like scoring a goal.

Having watched us all season I find it difficult, at the moment, to feel too hard done by. It’s our fault we are where we are.
More annoyed about the penalty we didn’t get than the one against us. If you’re stupid enough to pull a jersey in the box at that stage you run the risk. It’s pot luck what they act on and what they don’t.
Per my original post that you responded to, if we continue to be as toothless going forward we ain’t getting away from trouble any time soon.

Totally agree - we are awful.
Very slow, predictable and lack of any class in the team.
Highly paid players - none of which would get anywhere near the team 4-5 yrs ago.
This is what you get with years of poor recruitment- it’s a relegation battle we are in. No doubt about it.

I suppose seeing out the additional 13 mins without conceding this time and mostly in their half is one positive but overall it was another poor performance though yet another game we should have won. Somewhere along the line we have got to start winning these sort of games or we are heading for disaster.

That’s less of a viewpoint and more of a football suicide note. We’re bottom of the league.

But says for Ohora ah we have an iPad an we all agreed it wasn’t a penalty.

I cannot stand the man. How that team are fourth in the league is anybody's guess. It just shows how utterly rank we've been so far. Should have been 6 points from our two recent games against them. Gray's indecision and delays today with the substitutions cost us dear. He needs to take a good look at that.

Alternatively we have lost 12 points from goals after 80 minutes. If we can see out games we would be well up the league. Bizarrely I think the period after Utd equalised today have given me more hope than I have had for weeks. We showed attacking intent, a bit of courage and lots of heart. If we had showed that in previous games we would be nowhere near the bottom of teh league. Sometimes injustice can be a very big motivator.

What about the 10 minutes leading up to that where pretty much everyone in the stadium knew they were going to equalise?

If we'd shown that intent prior to them equalising, perhaps we would have wrapped up the game long before we inevitably invited trouble upon ourselves.

Surprised at that. They were basically camped in our half and chucking balls into the box. We were then panicking and just launching it back to them.
I promise I'm not being dramatic, but the folk round me were all talking about when, not if they equalise.

They put 5 upfront and ofcourse they won the odd flick etc but the only chance I mind them having was bubunskis bad miss soon after HT
Taking the "Hibs fan" syndrome out of it as, we all know we thought it - but what was happening on the pitch didn't match that imo.
We weren't hanging on, or sitting in I don't think anyway

Most teams that are certainties for relegation get hammered every week. We're frustrated every week by throwing away points late on that we should have had in the bag earlier.
We're bottom 6 material for sure, but I don't see us going down.

No one that was facing the pitch should've been thinking that. Referee made up a penalty. Otherwise they could still be playing and wouldn't have scored.

Problem is there isn't a team getting hammered every week. There is no Livingston this season. Bottom six is going to be very tight.

Think this will be one of the tightest seasons ever for relegation.
The worst team we have played we beat 2-0 but they currently have 2 more points than us and played a game extra.
We are miles off it and I’m not sure why people are still thinking all will be ok. It’s like they just watch highlights and see our occasional chances but rarely watch full games or games in person.

A wee positive from yesterday was the back four limiting the opposition to next to nothing really.
Big Marv is an absolute warrior and O'Hora actually looked quite comfortable over on the right when he switched.
Bursik didn't really have anything to do so no worries there either.

Do agree with this. Big Marv has been excellent and defensive unit has been much improved all round.
We'll need 2 up next week without a target man, great chance to go a 3 to get O'Hora on the right, Iredale on the left. Hopefully Miller or Cadden fit for right wing back with Obita left.
We create next to nothing though.

People can't be serious if they think we played well yesterday. If that's the accepted level of playing well, people are obviously easily pleased.
That performance might have been slightly better than recent ones, but was still not acceptable for a club wanting to be top 6.

If we hadn't had a shocker of a decision go against us we would be talking very differently.
We didn't, I appreciate, but it's one decision made by VAR that has cost us 2 points yesterday.
Easily pleased in the context of where we are, I absolutely would have been described as easily pleased if we'd won yesterday, I still am to some extent as I think we are improving defensively and no one would have begrudged us the win if we'd not been diddled by VAR.

I thought we played well first half.
I thought the second half we weren't as good but had probably done enough to win the game. Dundee Utd were dreadful. I think the standard of Scottish football since Covid has been pretty poor outside of Celtic tbh. Genuinely good end to end games are becoming more of a rarity.

10th is the target right now, not top 6. Get out of the bottom two and we can think about building from there.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. We were definitely the better team, and DU look really average at best, but they're still 4th or 5th somehow. The thing that scares me is we're looking more and more like an 80 minute team, not a 90 mi ute one. I'd be interested to know just how many goals we've concede in the last 10 minutes/injury time in the last 8 games.

What difference does it make if the target is top 6 or 10th, we are still going to go into every game with the intention of winning it. What would we do differently when targeting 10th instead of 6th?
