Completely agree, we miss Newell, hopefully he is fit for our next game
We really didn't miss Newell today. Think Kwon and Triantis should start every game if fit and I'd happily play Rudi over Newell.
Said I hope that'd be our three after the window closed and hope it is going forward. Rudi has so much potential and is already Scottish Premiership quality.

Not sure what your point is and what its got to do with Joe Newell.
The formation we’ve been playing is two holding midfielders, one of which has been Newell. Since coming in this season, both Triantis and Kwon have looked better than him in that position and IMO should be starting ahead of him. I’m not sure what’s confusing you?

Why do some Hibs fans need go on and on about Newell, take the win and chill

It takes a lot to astonish me but I'm amazed at the comments about Youan. How do people not realise that he was being given a 45 minute fitness run out today? As was proved we now have a big enough group that we can do this and still win easily against a team like St. Johnstone.
He wasn’t given a 45 minute fitness run out today. It was a game we really needed to win, you’re not giving someone a wee run out to get 45 minutes in the legs in a game like today ffs. He was hooked at half time because he was crap. The player who came on, who has also been unfit, was much better.

I did, I think we've struggled most first half's this season, really don't know why and it's something we need to fix. But Newell has started every first half other than today. Having him in the starting line up, for me, wouldn't have made any difference.

Delighted with 3 points but we have some pretty horrendous footballers in our first 11 at the moment. Youan was brutal (hope it’s a lack of match sharpness as some suggest), Nicky Cadden - Christ!, does not look like a premier league player - hope he proves me wrong.

Neither player was going to be risked for 90 mins coming back from injury so good management to give them both a half. Youan didn't have a great 45 that's true - but we know what he's capable of and good to get the minutes in his legs. He didn't look disinterested to me - just not quite on it. Hoilet had a great game when he came on and it's great to have options in these forward areas.

You mentioned Newell wouldn’t be able to take the place of either Kwon or Triantis. The point is that SDG’s preferred midfield trio is all three. So there’s no question of Newell not stepping straight back in once available to hook up with the two new arrivals. That’s what you seemed to be overlooking.

You do not need to be fit to be able to control a ball and pass it. Hoilett just off an injury too, and was miles better.
Youan was honestly a man down.

If it was a fitness run out then he’d have come on as a sub when we were leading or a bounce game would have been arranged I’d imagine.
He was just very poor, and he has the ability to be that in the same way he can be absolutely sublime, often in the same half of football.

i thought Youan was playing well within himself, which is fine given return from injury, and he was also trying to be more disciplined in defensive positioning which was important given that we did not enjoy control in midfield. I would have loved to have seen more of a goal threat but I'm really just delighted he's back. Let him build on that performance. His old flamboyance and marauding will return when he has more confidence.
What I really noticed was, for all the flak he takes for some quarters when he plays, how much we missed JN's relative composure in midfield. There was too much passing straight to the opposition, a lot of it panicked or just hurried unnecessarily. Another team could have inflicted multiple wounds and we were lucky yesterday.
But 3 points are valuable and we have to get in the habit of collecting them every time we play a "bottom 6" side.

Some positives to take from yesterday, the midfield looked a lot better, we were creating good chances and could have had a couple more, I love seeing Mika lead the line he's like a modern Mixu, Hoilett looks a good player and the defence was an improvement. St Johnstone were poor but we had a tough start to the season so were due a game like that.
The negitives Youan was poor, I'll cut him some slack because he's not trained much and it was his first game of the season but trands from last season definately continued, there are still those shakey looking moments from the defence but to give them credit they recovered well from them.
Can we sign Triantis on a permanent please? What a difference he is making.

First half was tough, but St Johnstone and their negative tactics can do that to you. Goal came at a great time and we looked by far the better side in the second half. Glad to see Marvin getting some praise, defensively he’s been mostly excellent since he came in. The pass backs thing as an anomaly.

6th most progressive passes per 90 of all centre mids in the league last season,
Ahead of players .net loves like shinnie, O'Hara, baccus, Lennon miller.
Also more than McGregor, baningame, Barron, Clarkson.
The idea he passes it sideways more than any other deep midfielder in the league is a classic .net myth - he plays more forward passes per game than the majority of the midfielders in the league.

I’m not sure we can put our poor first half down to st Johnston in a negative way
For the first 30 minutes, St Johnston were just the better team imo and played in our half. Dont think there tactics were bad, they just kept a good shape and used the ball better than us.
We then went through a bit of a spell with Kwon and Myk having shots from distances and a couple of corners which got us more into the game and more of a threat the last 10-15 imo

Not me. Eyes quite open to his failings. Posted them many times before. The difference is, I don't pile on him every time we lose a match.
If his failings were so obvious and many, folk wouldn't feel the need to literally make things up, would they?

Aberdeen will have a sticky patch, they are no world beaters and have had the perfect fixture list for a good start.
St Johnstone Away
St Mirren at home
Kilmarnock at home
Ross County away
Motherwell at Home
if you wanted to choose the easiest 5 fixtures you could get, you would choose those. Away matches against the weakest teams in the league and a home matches against St Mirren, Kilmarnock after a Euro tie and Motherwell. They still had to win them, and they have done that, so fair play to them, but I will reserve judgement on 3rd until they have played some tougher ties.
not that I’m suggesting we will get third, by the way..

He doesn’t need to say anything publicly. The first time they were all available they were played together. Triantis was the main sitter in that game but the three were pretty fluid. Rudi was moved centrally yesterday to join Kwon and Triantis but I didn’t think he looked ready for that role. He’s been much better playing off the left. But I’m not going to keep this going. If you don’t think Newell will be back in, that’s your opinion. I think he will be back once he’s available again. I think Rudi may struggle for starts in the short term as I can see Hoilett being a mainstay on the left now.

100% agree. I actually think Joe’s skill set is better suited to that 10 role, I hope he gets a run out in there when fit. He’s been wasted as a deep lying centre mid. Triantis 6, Kwon 8 and Newell 10 would be Gray’s preferred line up I’d suspect with Kwon/Newell being interchangeable.

Don't know where this "Aberdeen for 3rd" stuff comes from. Who's sure to stop them being second? Rangers, whose Chairman has just had to quit for health reasons? If it can't be us stopping Rangers getting second I don't mind it being them. Aberdeen may well prove better over the season and it's not like it has no precedent. And they have Nizzy 2.0.

Yes, Aberdeen have just made a very good start and seem to have a good manager and a plan. Barring the Celtc fixture I would say we have had a decent set of games to have picked up plenty points and apart from 2 late goals conceded we would all be pretty relaxed about points and position

I said last season that I felt hertz were to a degree a bit lucky in they were scraping results by an odd goal , Aberdeen have had a couple so far this season as well .
Even though Aberdeen are flying at the minute it will be interesting to see how they do when the hit a bad patch which at some stage they will.. long way to go yet .
When you think about it we could have easily had another 4 points on the board at this stage …one thing I was looking at was our shots and we seem to be not having as many on target as we should … 15/3 , 4/0 * , 13/2 , 9/4 ,17/4 . Something that would be good to see us improving on .

Should Schmeichel not be in the team if no Hearts players are in it?
I don’t follow the logic?

It would suggest that Hearts played well and had a lot of shots on goal which he had to save. Which would suggest that they had players worthy of a spot in the TotW?
Not looked at the stats or the highlights for their game, so no idea if this ties in, but the logic isn't that hard to follow.

Hertz had a mighty 3 shots on target. I know that's doesn't tell the full story but strange to get in totw?

It was last summer we were linked with Gueye, before he signed for Aberdeen. He struggled at Aberdeen last season and got sent out on loan in Jan.

Does seem odd that a keeper who saved 3 shots got in.
