It's easier to play on the front foot when you're up against a reserve team who are already in the second round.

Scotland wouldn't have laid a finger on that Portugal team.

It wasn’t just tonight that Georgia did that though. They got a bit of luck in terms of facing Portugal when they did but they made the most of that. We wouldn’t have approached the game that way, I’m sure of it.

Georgia never laid a finger on us in qualifying?

Scotland went into a game they needed to win and played for a draw

Qualifying is about qualifying. The euros is what matters.

They've turned up with a plan, played to their strengths and fought for every ball.

Yeh i know that, but the argument that we should copying the Georgia model was the discussion, you think we should copy that.......we aint qualifying for many major tournaments doing that

You can’t just dismiss qualifying to suit your argument otherwise is becomes moot. It was a bad showing at the euros and questions should be asked about the tactics/setup I agree but let’s not just conveniently forget the results and performances that got us there

The penalty claim came in the 80th min of our 3rd game. It's a bit late in the day for hoping to gain a bit of confidence...

Gain condidence for the next round suddenly the pressure is off and they play better. Agree the general performance wasn’t good enough and changes too late and too many imo however we were clearly done by a very poor decision

I have been a big fan of Clarke but the Euros was disappointing. We did the hard work qualifying. Once you're there have a bloody go. You're only there once. Greece won the thing, Wales got to a bloody semi final and Georgia showed what a tiny nation can do. We were powderpuff. I think Clarke and the team will have a lot of regrets looking back.

Saw Bobby madden talking about the Scotland pen the other day. He was saying uefa instructions are that the defender has a duty not to make contact with the attacker but fifa instructions are that if the defender makes a movement across the defender then it’s not a penalty. So he was basically saying that having a ref from a different federation who is used to refereeing to different instructions has likely caused this.

Argentinian ref sent home from euros. Was Clarke right all along even if he didn’t put it across in the right way?

If the European referees are used to following UEFA instructions, then presumably an Argentinian referee would be used to following CONMEBOL instructions? It may be that CONMEBOL use FIFA's interpretation, but it doesn't sound like that's what Madden said.

Presumably the only time FIFA's instructions are directly relevant (rather than via another association) would be World Cups.

I think its clear that the team peaked over 12 months ago. Players have aged, some not getting as much game time and the injury pull outs really hurt us further. Clarkes tactics havent changed whilst the team has basically. Very poor showing at the tournament, in hindsight, the Swiss game was okay, not brilliant.

Add into the fact that we chose a very difficult round of friendlies from last June onwards and getting humped by 3 or more goals from England, France and Netherlands didnt help our confidence. (despite us having chances at 1-2 v England and being as good if not better than the Netherlands for 55 mins).
