Thankfully the games will be played on the park, not balance sheet vs balance sheet

Obviously they're favourites when we play, but I just cannot understand this attitude of they are so far ahead of us - they're really no

Motherwell deserved something from Ibrox at the weekend, Killie have already beaten both FFS

As I said, I fully expect us to take points from the Huns and think we could do the same vs Celtic

While they are playing in Europe most weeks, their resources will be stretched. Rangers are not a great team by the standards of the old Firm at the moment and Celtic are bedding in a new/old manager. Probably our best chance of getting a result are the two games in October.

Of course typically it's Hearts who will benefit the most, as they play Rangers three days after they have played Sparta Prague away ! :grr:

Although we do get to play Celtic 3 days after they have played Athletico Madrid at home..let's hope they get a leg sapping drubbing :greengrin

The games are played on the park though the financial gap between Hibs (rest of the clubs too) and the old firm is massive and getting bigger each year too . This of course has a bearing on the park as both can spend millions on players and offer bigger wages which allows them to sign players away above what market we are looking in .

Wither Motherwell deserved something from Ibrox is irrelevant because at the end of the day they got nought as many teams do when they go there or parkhead. Killie have indeed beat them which will happen now and again though not to often it has to be said .

Hopefully your right and we do take points of the old firm though I usually go into them games now more hoping we don't get a doing and pull of a shock result rather than actually expecting a result tbh .The Rangers spend so much these days its obvious they don't need "staunch" referees any more. However...

I love the look of the cohesion, togetherness and work ethic of the bench. This is a setup that will need time to fix things, improve things and consolidate good things that are already present. Night and day in comparison to the previous setup, which I've already heard confirmed from a source within the playing group, albeit second hand. I have a good feeling about this.

Don't expect anything from old firm games nowadays . Both are miles ahead of us financially and even some of there player's on bench would probably get into our first team . Anything we do get now I look on as a real bonus .

That and trying to avoid injuries. It's almost like an international break when we play them. They are pretty much write-offs. I'd much rather we regularly beat Hearts and Aberdeen. I'd never use a managers record against the old firm against them.

I'm never optimistic in games against the arse cheeks. It would be a decent return if we got a win, a draw and 4 defeats out of every 6 games against them. That's not very ambitious but it's probably better than most would get.

I'm strangely more confident in a one off game against rangers at hampden, but I guess that's down to our excellent record against them there over the last few decades.

Hopefully you're trolling, if not that's one of the most mind blowing things I've ever seen on here - you'd think we were coming up against Real Madrid reading that !

Would love for us to get back to the collective mindset of a few years ago under Stubbs / Lennon, that anyone is beatable (which they are, domestically at least)

Rangers, and for at least the time under Stubbs Celtic, were far weaker back then.

You've taken that too far. Thankfully I don't think the management or playing staff will share that attitude. The latter part of your post I'd agree with.

I was worried Saturday and tonight about the decision to play Whittaker.

Playing for the 18s, hardly heard of him and after one game against Rangers he trained with the first team and then came on the first time he was in the sub to be our youngest ever player.

I was scared Monty would maybe view it as an easy thing to reflect back on “I gave youth a chance, our youngest ever player” etc. I never thought he seemed the type to have that sort of attitude it it’s just a bit mental we have him and Johnson rarely includes him - also interesting Rudi and Mcallister haven’t had a chance.

But he done well on Saturday and sounds like he done really well again tonight.

Well done to Monty for being brave, and Whittaker for performing well beyond his age!

I know they got back into it to make it 2-2 but it was with only their second shot of the game I think, I was really surprised Robinson stuck with 5 at the back for so long.

That was a good second half.

The media have been frothing over St Mirren.

Would like to say this quietly for now, but I'm getting a bit excited :tee hee:

Very impressed with that second half turnaround. Like a different team after the break which is really encouraging.

I have to say the three subs at once looked like a strange one as the team fell apart straight away and allowed St Mirren to equalise. Great resilience after that to get the win.

A bit harsh on Robinson I'd say. He knows what his team's strengths are and plays to them. He'd have to be a bit daft to play 5 at the back with the strikers Hibs have. I suspect he'll be Naibadges replacement though and the Yams will lap up that emphasis on being organised at the expense of creativity.

It was 11 at the back for large spells, and when we got ahead and he had to chase the game, it became easy for hibs

Monty's post match comments:

Hibernian boss Nick Montgomery tells BBC Sportsound: "I thought it was a really good game of football, entertaining. First half I thought we were the better team, we created a lot of half chances, just lacking that composure in the final third, but they're good on the counter attack.

"We could have dealt with it better, but from that moment on, we controlled and dominated the game. They had two shots on target and both went in, so that's a good accuracy to have, but all in all, we more than deserved to win the game.

"St Mirren have had a great start to the season, but we made them tire and that's when we started to expose them. We switched the ball really well and made them do a lot of running. With the ball, we were better, it was an exciting cup tie."

On his half-time team talk: "I told them to stay calm, keep playing and don't get sucked into thinking we need to change the game-plan. We have the belief now."

On drawing Aberdeen: "It doesn't matter who we play, it's a semi-final. It's a knockout and now we are one game away from a final, but in reality, it's not even in my mind at the moment. Full focus is Dundee at the weekend."

He managed to play more or less the same team as Saturday and will probably only change 1 or 2 this weekend as well. Thank god we have someone who has figured out that you can play more than once a week.

Brilliant start for him. Three points on Saturday, however we get them, crucial.

Yeah, definitely. I think there will be a couple of changes. I saw Vente at the end had some kind of ice pack wrapped round his leg. Wonder if he may be benched at the start on Saturday? ALF and Doidge more than capable of leading the line.

Very early days but it’s so encouraging since he’s come in. When it’s not going well on the park people want to look for deeper issues but ultimately get a good manager in and the rest follows. In Monty it looks like we have one.

2 wins and a draw so far aint bad going, should have been 3 wins but for some poor defending at Killie.

Montgomery seems to be of the mindset that it's 442 come what may and up to the players to make it work. We've scored 8 goals in those 3 games which is excellent, but the 4 we've conceded isn't. It's maybe my imagination but this system seems to leave our back 4 players in one v one situations quite a lot, not least Rocky last night.

We have 3 big tests coming up after Dundee on Saturday, the positive is that we are undoubtedly a goal threat, the negative is that our defence still looks vulnerable and the opposition in these 3 games have the players to exploit it. The next month should be 'interesting'

Yesterday was the first time I have seen Hibs under Monty and I have to say that I was impressed. I thought we were a little bit slow and lacking in movement, with a bit too much passing along the back due to their 5 across the back in the first half. In the second half we stepped up the tempo and moved the ball around.

I gave up my season ticket a couple of years ago because I had become bored. Have already seen more games this season than last and will go to midweek matches when I can. I can't manage weekends as I have other commitments now.

Got a good feeling about things for the first time in a long time.
