Dear Ticket Purchaser for the Aston Villa v Hibernian F.C. Match,
We wish to inform you that it is against the ground regulations of Aston Villa Football Club to allow away supporters into home areas.
To ensure the safety of all fans attending the game, we have received credible information regarding Hibernian supporters who have acquired tickets intended for home supporters. As a result, we have taken immediate action.
Tickets purchased by individuals without a previous booking history with Aston Villa Football Club and who we believe to be Hibernian supporters will be returned and a refund will be provided. Additionally, individuals without a booking history will be ineligible to purchase tickets for this fixture.
The electronic tickets you have received will not grant you, or any other supporter, access to Villa Park on Thursday 31st August 2023. Should any visiting club supporters attempt to enter home areas of the ground, they will be immediately reported to police.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Kind Regards,
Aston Villa Ticket Office

I could see this coming, I reckon the police would've been all over this as well. The West Mids finest don't take any chances, any sniff of an issue and they get fixtures moved to 12 o'clock on a Sunday afternoon and they can't do that with this one,.They'll be like a cat on a hot tin roof at the thought of you lot coming down in numbers as it is without you popping up all over the stadium as well.
I don't how well it would go either, we've been selling out for a few years now so haven't had loads of Liverpool or Man Utd fans in our ends like we used to, people aren't used to it and might not react well. Any trouble down here these days tends to happen in cup games as it's not just the usual season ticket holders in their seats, you get a few nutters in the more normally tranquil parts of the ground and in general.
Can't believe we didn't make the criteria 'previous booking' as well, though the ticketing has been a shambles for as long as I can remember. It's worth buying a season ticket just to reduce the number of times you have to deal with them.

Villa would have twigged without social media that they can't have had a massive Edinburgh fan club establish itself in 12 hours.

Do you think Villa were looking at the addresses of each individual ticket purchase? It’s not like they were sending lots of physical tickets to Edinburgh, they were e-tickets.

Just feel it's poor taste the way they're cancelling tickets, moving the hospitality about, it's like we are a problem. Just treat us the same as you would anyone else and if anything was to kick off im sure it would be minimal, and they'd have the facilities to deal with it.

From the Villa fan on here, it sounds like away fans in the home end are a thing of the past at Villa Park.
They've stuffed up their ticket general sale right enough, but can't say I'd be too surprised that steps have been taken to prevent hundreds of away fans being in the home end.
I'd be wanting Hibs to do similarly if the boot was on the other foot,as much as it sucks for those impacted

You are being treated the same as anyone else.
no away fans in the home end at practically every ground there is on the planet.

Think my gripe is more that after fellow fans are having tickets cancelled, this on top has probably just set me off, just hate the way fans are treated at times. It doesn't feel like an upgrade, although any other time it probably would.

Well yes, but on the individual level, what info are Villa using to come to the conclusion that person XYZ is a Hibs fan? It'll be somthing fairly simplistic like a) newly created user account plus b) postcode I'd imagine, they aren't just cancelling tickets randomly with their eyes shut.

If you want to be really cheeky, cite Article 22 of UK GDPR to Villa, say you invoke your right not to be subject to a decision based on automated processing and profiling and that unless Villa provides you with proof that they retook the decision to cancel your ticket with a human being the one who determined that you are a Hibernian supporter that you will be making a complaint to the ICO.
Most likely won't get you anywhere as the staggering of the emails suggests they have an employee manually going through orders looking for postcodes, but they might decide not to cancel your ticket rather than have to deal with you claiming they are breaching UK GDPR.

The official word would be the official email. Hypothetically if one hasn't received one of those in the next day or 2 then probably, potentially, one might have dodged a bullet and plausibly might consider the eventuality of booking travel etc.

I'm exaggerating of course, but they'd have to apply some slightly more discretionary criteria like "user profile created in the last week" or something.

So by that you could have bought one as your first purchase and be deemed a Villa fan. Someone living in Scotland gets spiked immediately, logically enough, but people living closer to Birmingham may be ok.

You beat me to the punch of posting this, but I agree with your interpretation of the email.
Separate to that, they said are now restricting new sales to only those with a purchasing history. I guess there is nothing to stop them from deciding before the game to cancel all tickets from all new accounts (or all new accounts outside B postcodes), but that would be going beyond what their email from today said.

It's non-refundable, check in is next Thursday 31st and it's for one night. It cost us £84 and i'm not expecting to get near the full value for it but would ideally like to recoup something if possible, so open to offers! Cheers.

Should any visiting club supporters attempt to enter home areas of the ground, they will be immediately
Are folk who have their tickets cancelled getting refunds or have you lost your money?

Further to this post earlier,I've decided the room is now available for free. Happy to give over the details and contact the hotel to change the name or whatever.
If you want it just get in touch.
Nice gesture, well done. Hibs class.

Very much looking forward to my trip to Birmingham. Wish we were still in with a hope, but a very cool experience nonetheless.

Manchester police might disagree with you.
And there’s me thinking most Huns think they are English ( or at least want to be )

Take it there’s others in Scotland that haven’t had the dreaded email?

As a Villa fan just wanted to say it's sad they've cancelled so many tickets I know there is the trouble issue but I highly doubt this would happen and it's always nice to see your team play at a historical stadium even if you have to behave in the home stand! The Hibs fans I spoke to up in Edinburgh were all great and humble fans. Good luck for the 2nd leg if anyone needs anything else please feel free to ask!

Thanks for all your posts on here recently, been helpful. Hopefully (barring a miracle up there with the resurrection) Villa can go all the way in the competition.
It’s good to see an opposing fan come onto a site on genuine friendship.
