The Steve Clarke **** up was a Petrie special.

Not sure that’s right. I believe we offered him the job but when he found out the wage on offer was to cover him and his assistant he told us to ram it

So what your saying is Kilmarnock offered Steve Clarke and his assistant more wages than Hibs??

When Nevin recommended him, we didn't do anything about it.

He was later linked with us and the hibs.net FACT is that Petrie messed up. How anyone would know that is beyond me though, but he never arrived.

I did put in the caveat of probably. Poetic licence that, apologies. If our current board chose Maloney & Johnson over McIness and just cannot see McIness has more qualifications than both of them to run a manage a club like Hibs in the SPFL.

To make a mistake in appointing Maloney then compounding it with a waffler like Johnson beggars belief.
We now have a director of football where we hadn’t before to help make these decisions

Where's your source for us appointing Calderwood instead?

The article I'm reading says it was Stubbs so it seems more like you're the waffler.

He went elsewhere before going to Killie

From the Daily Record in 2010:

STEVE CLARKE last night confirmed he held talks with Hibs before losing out on the manager's job to Colin Calderwood.
The former Chelsea and West Ham No.2 revealed he was spoken to by Easter Road chairman Rod Petrie but claimed the discussions went no further.

Rumours quickly spread the capital that Clarke was in line for the hotseat and betting was suspended after he was made odds-on favourite.
Clarke said: "I did have a 10-minute phone discussion with the Hibs chairman. There was no further progress from that.
"There was no big hidden agenda. How I ended up as favourite for the job with the bookmakers, I don't know."

Pat Nevin approached Hibs about Clarke when he was out of the game having lost his job at Reading.

We had Alan Stubbs from 14-16 so I can only assume the approach from Pat was made after Stubbs resigned.

We didn't even speak to Clarke although he was reportedly keen to come. When I first heard that I thought that it was another faux pas by Hibs but then I realised we appointed Neil Lennon that summer so plans must have already been underway.

Steve Clarke v Neil Lennon in 2017? Lennon wins all day. How that's changed in only 6 years.

I think it was after West Brom. He ended up going to Reading.

I also think the rumour of the wage thing was when we ended up with Calderwood

I should say that the reason Clarke became favourite in 2010 was because of rumours on this forum and those who believed them and bet.

It's not difficult to bring odds down in manager special betting, often a phone call just to enquire about a price will put someone low odds and a few actual bets will see them tumble.

I think Nevin said that he ended up at Killie. I'll check again.

Yes the wage myth was when Calderwood came.

Nevin added: "Then later on, he was out of the game after West Brom and I went to Hibs, because I knew people there, and recommended him. I said, 'If you're looking for a new manager, then I can get him for you'.

He went to Reading, then Kilmarnock. It's how the world works sometimes.

How strange.

I just listened again and at the end of the podcast he says that SC told him that he'd been offered the Killlie job so that was the end of it.

So we appointed Stubbs instead?

Clarke didn't go to Killie until 2017 in the middle of the Neil Lennon "era". He was out of work between Dec 15 and June 16 when he became assistant manager at Villa, just before we hired Lennon.

You may want to read the post from LaMotta above regarding Clarke speaking to Hibs before Calderwood was appointed.

Might be wise for you to get your facts correct before personally attacking other posters.

The chat at the time was that the package we offered Clarke was for him and his assistant, not just for him. That's as far as it went!

Petrie :grr:

The article in LaMotta's post refers to Clarke having had a 10 minute chat with Petrie in 2010 and no mention of Pat Nevin.

You said that Pat Nevin recommended Clarke for the Hibs job but we went for Calderwood instead. You told Cropley Was God to google Pat Nevin Steve Clarke Hibs job. When I did that it came up with stories referring to the Pat Nevin recommendation being around the time we appointed Stubbs.

2 different events, several years apart.

If you can post a link to a source that confirms your original claim of Pat Nevin recommending Clarke to Hibs and us choosing Calderwood instead then I'll retract my comment and apologise.

If you can't then you are the one who should apologise for posting false information.

I also note you consider calling someone a "waffler" a personal attack. That was your description of Lee Johnson so you seem to be okay with dishing out such "personal attacks".

Be interesting to see what route the board take. Perhaps after Maloney and Johnson to an extent they are finished with taking risks and go for McInnes.

From what I’ve seen of McDermott I can imagine him liking a Mcinnes type. A good guy, well respected and done a good job.

Can’t imagine him getting the wool pulled over his eyes with fancy words or empty promises
