Brilliant movement from Melkerson, top finish and Hauge is looking very good too. The personalities of the managers we have had recently are really evident in how our team plays. The energy in this squad mirrors LJ and it is brilliant to watch. So much movement and has anyone noticed that throw ins aren't a problem for us but the opposition aren't getting any easy possession from throw ins. Great signs and players like Campbell will be much better this year

hibs have been fabulous to watch👍🏻 Very unusual for friendlies to be better to watch than league games but these games have brought a bit of love back for me. We are actually playing the style of football I love. I would describe it as Scottish football. Fast, get it wide, crosses into the box and shoot when you have the chance. When you don't have the ball bump, bash and snap at heels. It is a style that will work well in Scotland against Maloney's that had absolutely no chance of working and that was obvious before we kicked a ball under him.

Only saw snippets today but very impressed with what I did see.
It's so nice to see a Hibs team looking aggressive and wanting to be on the front foot. I could write off the odd bad result if there is an attempt to dominate the ball, win it back and move it forward with purpose. No one wins every game but the bad results are easier to forgive if the bulk of what you are watching is entertaining. One of my biggest gripes with Ross was that his teams were often passive and quite content to give up the midfield with a view to counter attacking, of course it could be spectacular when it worked such as at Hampden v rangers but at home when a team sat in it was a chore to watch. I'm still not sure what Maloney wanted from his team but it was utterly dire whatever it was.
Johnson seems to want us on the ball and scoring goals. That will do for me.

The players look much more like they know what they're expected to do under Johnson than under Maloney.
The positioning under Maloney just looked weird at times - the number of times you'd be wondering where the central midfielders were as other players toiled without proper support was incredible. Today both midfields were everywhere, exactly what you want from them and it made such a difference to our play.
A few rough edges still to be smoothed out but it's incredibly encouraging for this stage of the season and it's brilliant to be in a position where you can only look forward to the games that lie ahead.

Maloney will go down as one of my least favourite Hibs managers in my lifetime - in terms of what was done to a squad of players by rigidly implementing an awful style, morale of the fan base and feeling around the club in such a short time.
Feeling optimistic now from what I've seen this week and can't wait for the season to start all of a sudden. As PB said, if this is evidence of the style to come it's something you can get behind. A young team full of running, pressing the opposition, getting the ball forward quick and running at people. Reminded of Ron's comments RE it was a mistake to rush in with Maloney and they've taken the time to get the right guy.
The standard of opposition in the league cup also gives us the opportunity to keep winning games and build the feeling behind the club to have the stadium packed and buzzing for the derby.

Their 2nd goal was a bit of a defensive cock up and we were lucky not to concede at the start of the 2nd half .... it was good to see folk throwing themselves in front of the ball in a friendly mind you.
But having said that what I've seen over these last two games is absolutely night and day compared to the six months under Maloney. How absolutely refreshing to see us pressing high for 90 minutes, contesting every ball, especially in midfield, and trying to get it forward quickly, some of the interplay has been nice to watch as well. Overall the movement and energy in the team looks massively improved.
OK it's only two friendlies, but some of the individual performances from new players or existing ones we haven't seen a lot of have been a bit of an eye opener, Hauge looks a player as does Youan and I like the look of Delferriere, the lad McClelland hasn't done himself any harm either and Miller looks like a real find. Better than all that McGeady looks like he might still have it after all. Kenneh might have a bit to find so far as not giving the ball away goes, but he did more good than bad IMO. We haven't had a failure in the two games we've played.
OK early days, but the signs are encouraging, especially by the looks of things with real competition for first team places and what could end up being a bench that's way stronger than it's been for a long time. After the last few days I'm glad I'm not the manager trying to pick a starting XI out of that lot, thankfully for a change for all the right reasons.

The main takeaway from this week for me is how much better players we already had look.

I can see a lot of players improving under LJ. Positive signs. Like others have said, i feel more enthusiastic about Hibs now than i have in a wee while.

Yes, I'm glad you and others have written that. I was impressed with him today and also from what I saw on Wednesday.
He's that all-action type player that can be a fans favourite, but don't expect him to be pinging them in from 30 years and being our creative spark. Did I hear the commentator correct that he's only 22?
I really hope the "he's not very good, get rid" fans cut him some slack. I'm not convinced he'll be a first team starter, but let's hope he gives LJ some reason for considering him. I do think he'll flourish more in a LJ team than he would in a SM team.

More an attacking midfield role, pressing and looking to create uncertainty further up the pitch. Good assist and made a real nuisance of himself.

Is it too soon to be getting excited? I'm loving this squad.
Seems like already we look far more coherent than at any time under Maloney’s brief tenure. Players playing in positions where they can utilise their strengths.
Promising.

Anybody else think Youan looks a bit special? He eats the ground up and looks like he's always a threat in behind with good finishing. That type of pace in rare in the SPL.

I know we've only played two friendlies but it will do wonders for our confidence. We've been very dominant in both games.

My observations on the last two games:
Started slowly in both but once we clicked, we really clicked. We were comfortably the better team in both matches.
The new signings have added power, pace and ability to the team that was lacking that massively last season.
Despite big changes to the team, we maintained the standard with no eleven looking noticeably stronger than the other.
It's fair to say the new signings have hit three ground running, and if the start they've had is indicative of how they're going to perform over the season then they all look like good business from Hibs.
There were some signs of issues remaining in the defence, though you would probably allow for that in games where there wasn't even a settled back four for any more than half a match - the big positive in a defensive sense was that you could count the number of times our keepers were called into meaningful action on one hand.
I thought the pitch looked small - both in terms of length and width. On bigger pitches with more space to exploit I can see our attackers doing some proper damage to teams.
It was so refreshing to see us play with the pace and intensity that we did, what a difference from Maloney.

Two friendlies in to LJ’s reign and the fans are already getting the excitement back.
Maloney set us back years. Although they made the decision to appoint him, I feel like the board need huge credit for getting rid of Maloney when they did. It would’ve been the easier decision to give him more time, but they took a difficult decision probably knowing full well all the stick that would come their way.
It’s early days for Lee Johnson but all the signs are positive IMO. I’ve been sick of the divisions in the support since probably Lennons good run. Certainly all through Jack Ross’ tenure and then Maloney.
My biggest hope is that we’re selling out ER again and everyone’s going with a sense of excitement, proud of the team on the park. Supporters and clubs pulling in the same direction. Fingers crossed.

Yes, him and JDH were two players I had written off as not good enough last season. More than happy for them both to be given a chance now, just goes to show what a change of management and fresh ideas can do for a player.

Holding number 10 role?
Kind of like when McGinn plays in a more advanced midfield role. Ready to pounce on a slack pass back from the opposition or always closing down deep into their half and looking to recycle it quickly.
Linked up well with Melkersen and the wide men.
I've said it before today but I do think there's a player in there, he just needs played in the right way as he was done today.

Decent report to be fair, summed up the game pretty well. I would say that for all the report points out that Burton are just into pre season so are we for the most part with this being only our second game and we also had a pile of newbies and fringe players fitting in for both games, given that situation our performances have been very good.

JDH has started off the friendlies brilliantly imo.
Bringing loads of intensity and aggression in the middle of the park and has been very good and forward thinking on the ball.
Henderson has also had a good start, lovely pass to Campbell for melkersens first goal.
JDH was absolutely hopeless last season and contributed nothing most weeks.
We're struggling if we're pinning our hopes on him.
Hopefully he rams these words down my throat but I'm not convinced he's good enough.

Personally I find that very harsh. I’m sure I read something recently about his stats being one of the best in the league defensively?
I don’t think Maloney’s tactics helped him at all but under Johnson we’ve seen a different side already and hopefully it continues.

Face it mate, that's not going to happen, 90 odd percent of EFL fans know sod all about Scottish football and as a result probably couldn't envisage a scenario where a Scottish team might actually be better than an EFL team. Both Hartlepool and Burton fans will satisfy themselves by saying their games against us were just match fitness events, even if they were both played off the park by Hibs teams that didn't have a side on the pitch that had played a full match together in either match and we are only just in to pre season ourselves so far as game time goes.
The point is though that it's a fact that pre season results don't actually count for that much, we beat Arsenal last season and nobody is pretending that result could ever be replicated three months later ... If there is any excitement from Hibs fans surrounding the last two games it's because we saw an attempt to play a style of football that might actually work for us after months of bland rubbish and a good few players most of us had seen little or nothing of who actually looked like the new energetic forward thinking style might even suit them .... it had little to do with the doubtful kudos to be gained from beating EFL 1 and 2 sides ..... Hearts in a few weeks time will be a far far tougher prospect than any of them.

Agree mate. We do seem to have a habit of skelping English clubs, at any level, in preseason.
But you are right, the optimism doesn’t come from wins against none entities like Burton or Hartlepool. It’s the style of play and the recruitment of obvious attacking talent that is so encouraging. I’m really looking forward to next weekend, not sure who to pick to be honest but I feel there will be goals and entertainment no matter what - that’s a massive change from last season.

JDH looked good, albeit not spectacular, prior to Maloney and a few weeks after he'd left was beginning to look the part again including finding the net. SM's tactics and coaching held his career back, we'll get to see the real player this year. One of many who deserves a proper clean slate.

I see a couple of folk have commented on that phrase. It's certainly not one I would use about any club mate. Its my opinion that EFL fans and English fans in general have a poor view of Scottish football because no matter who they support the final measure of their game is the EPL and when it comes to that we are indeed miles off it. That and the fact that they see very little Scottish football apart from a never ending diet of the Ugly Sisters pumping the likes of Ross County and Motherwell on SKY and sadly listen to too many Scottish players who have spent the vast majority of their careers in England talking our game down on the likes of Talk Sport.
In the end no club is a 'nonentity' their fans love their clubs just as we do and that's something we should never be arrogant enough to forget.
