Any win in a cup tie will do so fair play. It was great to see Melkerson get his goals both brilliantly taken and his movement was top notch, what can you say about refs in this country, if the tackle on Doig was a red card why the hell wasn't the second identical tackle ( on Wright I think it was ) not long after also a red? Its utterly baffling :bitchy:

We gave the ball away in seriously poor areas about 4 times in the second half as we tried to play out and a better team would have punished us for it, the other noticeable thing was the number of balls Motherwell won in the air outside our box, with Hanlon and Rocky missing our lack of inches is really noticeable and definitely counting against us.

A classic game of two halves, played exactly as we should in the first and bordered on poor in the second, getting 2 - 0 up against 10 men and then having us all squeaky bummed for practically the whole of the 2nd half is so classically Hibs it borders on cliche.

Play like we did in that 2nd half against anybody in the semi final and we will be out, not so much because of what Motherwell did on the ball, but because of how poor we were on it. I know, voice of doom, cup half empty blah blah blah :greengrin

Melkerson's was a yellow. Macey's was pure theatrics from Lamie. Roberts was another red card, one of those that if he hadn't just sent someone off, Collum brandishes red.

So frustrating that ref's take the context of the game into account, Kenny Miller was saying it was too early in the game for a red card. Absolute nonsense. Apply the rules as they're intended. Liam Donnelly got away with a blatant yellow card, Miller (probably correctly) saying the ref let him away with one to 'even things up a bit'.

Seems to be a common theme in other teams fans saying Porto is bad. They obviously haven't been watching him the past year or so. He's come on so much and is an excellent player.

A sign of the improvement we will see once our injured players come back. Onwards and upwards.

That was a strange game. Playing with the extra man in the first half we did fairly well. We could have moved it quicker far more often but when we did we looked threatening. It was a massive difference having a striker who actually tries to run in front of defenders and who moves towards the opposition goal. We got men in the box pretty well at least until Well scored and put in quite a few good crosses. No idea what happened at half time but we looked like we had been told to slow it down. Everything we did encouraged Well on to us and they just got more and more confident. The subs were odd and we essentially evened the numbers up with Doidge and Allan coming on. Big Christian looked gone just taking his tracksuit top off.

I have some real concerns about the fitness of our players. Newell comes back after weeks off and with heavy strapping and plays 90 minutes, getting all over the field and doesn't even look tired. Mueller looked knackered at half time and Jasper seems to struggle after the hour but he is improving. Allan is miles away from a place on the bench in terms of fitness and Doidge likewise.

For me at least, we look like we have some very reluctant participants in the playing the ball aimlessly around the back. It may work in time but at least for now it seems far more likely to hurt than help us. I'd have no issue if we were doing it in their half but Motherwell just sat 30 yards off and chose when to press and we looked completely clueless. The style simply has to change with the players we have available.

Saying all that the most important ting is getting into the hat and despite the huff and puff we can still win the cup and Motherwell can't

At the absolute most it was a yellow but for me that would have meant there could have been two or three Well players given a yellow for pushing Macy into the goal. The play acting was worse than what Jasper got booked for and no idea how Lamie was still on the park at the end.

Was at the game today
Brilliant first half
I disagree with the folk on here saying that it was a poor second half
We passed the ball side to side
DreyWright and Jasper were hugging the touch lines to try and stretch the 10 men
I think the game plan was not to get drawn into a battle
Motherwell wanted to kick us all over the park
I think Maloney was stopping us from getting involved as Motherwell were trying to even things up which might have given us problems
As my mate said today it looked liked Alexander had told his players to hatch the Hibs
In the second half I can’t remember Macey having a genuine save to make bare the farce when their player threw himself to the ground
The catch at the end was greeted like a goal
Melkerson was brilliant
Jasper had them on toast first half
Newall brilliant all game
I expected about 70 minutes at the most
Drey Wright had a great game too
And the support was just fantastic
