Good to get some of the detail and to be honest totally agree with Hibs that they should be angry given they were trying to control the outbreak at the same time getting harassed into playing a game a few days after travelling for hours to the same venue. Spfl were a joke in this instance.

Speaks a lot of sense and provides a robust defence of the club and it’s procedures. Sadly it’ll probably be overshadowed by the blue half of Glasgow comment and the rags will try and build up some sort of public spat between Hibs and the “furious whistleblower”/Rangers

Many years ago the late John Fairgrieve (a Jambo but good journalist) commented that when it came to getting favours from the SFA or referees Rangers came first, Celtic second, and nobody third.
Knew John well. A good guy as well as a good journalist. He could however cause a fight in an empty hoose. In fact he loved doing just that and then stand back and watch the fallout with a glint in his eye.

Long remember his article suggesting that Tynecastle should be “turned into a Car Park” after a cup defeat to Forfar, he had campaigned for a long time about the malaise under Bobby Parker IIRC.
Wish I still had it. He started a rammy with that one at the time.

Very well said Ben, who cares what the blue half may think, this is not about what they may think, this is a Hibs safety issue and Hibs have gone about the business in a very professional manner so to hell with the blue half and the small minded whistle blower if he even was. the safety of the players and staff must take priority over small mindedness.

So was the whistle blower a penny-whistle blower or was did he play the flute?
Can go one of two ways - take the focus off the players and on to him or the whistle-blower or incur the wrath of the hoardes - or both.

I remember him getting all apathetic about the America’s Cup. He described it as a posh sailing race that nobody could really get excited about. He wrote in his column he could generate more excitement running a pontoon sweep between Newtongrange Star and Gorebridge Bowling club.

Can you honestly blame him, regardless of who he supports? If I walked into a hotel bar and saw Rangers, Hearts or Celtc players blatantly not observing the rules, you can be damned sure I'd be reporting them too.
Focus on that if you wish, but if there were a bunch of players not adhering to the guidelines and they've subsequently caught Covid resulting in the current ****-show, you're angry in the wrong place IMO.

Some Hun sympathiser claimed that he was staying in the same hotel as us and saw players not following protocol. He was so upset he contacted the Daily Record and SFA or spfl.
Needless to say all the papers printed the accusations. No pictures or comments from the hotel.

Would tend to disagree with that.
Bet the SPFL will ram the fixtures in for November & December. There are a couple of midweek dates that are possible.
Cannot see them being delayed until next year. The transfer window opens again in January and the SPFL will demand that the games are played before then.Why. All sides have the abilty to refresh.
The Dec dates look more likely though so we are playing two games a week on the run to Christmas. Feels like this happens every year.

The Boyle one I found a bit strange…sounds like he needs to isolate for the full period which might make him miss the start of the camp? Which would mean he’s not double vaxxed. I wonder if Australia would bother to fly him all the way out there if it wasn’t for the whole camp.

True, but Slight clarification.
He isn’t allowed to play in the Open because the Victorian government have mandated that only vaccinated players, officials, ball bots etc will be allowed in the Melbourne arena.

Aware of that report, but…..
See my post above….Victoria says he can’t…..bit of political argument involved…and while the Feds control who can fly in and out, it’s the State Premiers who control the stadiums, and so far Victoria have held a hard line and said no jab, no play!

The Feds have I think, but last week as I say the Victorian Premier was still adamant no jab no play...and while the Feds control who can and can't come in to the country...its the states who set the rules in regard to what they allow in their state.
Mind you they can changed their minds at the wave of a brown paper envelope on any given day
The tennis player in question is still non commital as to whether he will come out.
The News tonight said there was a 'slight doubt' about Boyler's availability due to being a close contact, but on the same bulletin Aussie coach Graham Arnold very much played that down and said he was confident Martin would be here.
Malky Mackay not just ignorant about racism.
Ignorant in general. He can't understand why they had to forfeit a League Cup game and why we are allowed to reschedule. He acknowledges different competitions so different rules so he's a bit daft complaining now. It's fairly obvious the League Cup was operating on a tight timescale to fit all the group stage matches in hence the rule re forfeiting.

I like going to games in December, especially around the Christmas period, but I'd be more concerned about the effects on our squad with so many games in such a small window of time. We're struggling as it is with injuries, form and now players returning from covid without having to play 9 games in little over a month.
If we're anywhere near top 6 by the time the winter break comes round on January 3rd I'd be delighted. Everything seems to be conspiring against us at the moment.

AIUI, they have to be played (if possible) before the January transfer window opens. That avoids any perceived unfairness in clubs playing rearranged games with squads that are different from what they would have been for the original game. Sporting integrity, as Rod once said. :greengrin

Of course, but by having the intention to have them played by a certain date, it at least reduces the chances of the "unfairness" accusation.

It’s madness - they concern themselves with this but playing some teams 3 times at home or away in a season is ok. Or having some teams playing many more games than the others in a short period of time is fine.

It’s madness - they concern themselves with this but playing some teams 3 times at home or away in a season is ok. Or having some teams playing many more games than the others in a short period of time is fine.
While players are still possibly recovering from the long term effects of Covid.

Thanks for the replies :aok:
Probably need to factor in that this could happen again to other teams so although there maybe free midweek dates currently in February or March, they may be required as contingency

Could not stand him as a player but I’ve changed my mind since he became a manager.
Strikes me as a really decent bloke to be honest

Na he’s just a normal 5 year old. Who does normal 5 year old things. Some of which will probably cost me a few quid here and there. Not a problem really, just pointing out that it’s not as black and white as keeping the money aside you’d have budgeted for an away game unless you plan to sit in the house doing nothing when you’d be at that game. Thanks for the parenting tips but you can bolt with a stupid post like that.
I realise humour is subjective (especially my often poor attempts), but I honestly didn't imagine for a minute that you'd think a comment suggesting you get your kid to throw stones at ducks and pick his nose would be taken seriously.

28 days between the 21st November and the 18th December.
In that 4 week period Hibs play 9 games!
It includes 3 times where we play on a Wednesday night followed by a 3pm kick off on the Saturday which is less than 3 complete days between games.
All in all a brutal schedule.

Yeah, it is.
It's bad enough for the players and the fans are going to have a really busy time of it.
It's great for me, having so many games to go to, but it's not ideal for folk preparing for Christmas, having work nights out and stuff.

it's a tough job but someones got to do it.
As for Christmas, folk don't half get their knickers in a twist about it every year.

I do wonder if we've only got ourselves to blame. No other team has managed to get in to a mess like this.

Really? I know what your trying to say but I don’t think there is anyone to blame in a middle of a global pandemic.

It’s a perfect storm at the moment.
The disaster we had in the summer (which was entirely self inflicted) has just been compounded by the Covid situation (which I don’t think can be helped, could happen to anyone and we won’t be the last to be severely hit).
We were in a bit of bother before Covid hit so when we come back, I hope we’re not feeling sorry for ourselves thinking everything is down to Covid and that we’re ready to show a bit fight.

No other team has suffered like this since vaccines arrived. Have our protocols, or the players' compliance with them, been sufficient?

None of us can say for sure.
The protocols aren’t as tight as they have been in the past though and my opinion is that Hibs have been unlucky - the first club of the winter to be hit with an outbreak of this kind.
I’d be amazed if we’re the last.
Our situation might even spark a change in protocol for everyone somewhere down the line as it’s far from being an ideal situation.
I say that - we were minging for a few weeks leading up to the enforced rest and still had a few games to play there before we got some injured players back. It might yet end up being a blessing in disguise.

Ross County got hammered with it in the summer.
We won’t be the last.

I suppose the only argument against that would be if a number of players chose not to vaccinate meaning they have have been more vulnerable to catch it than if they had. No idea if that is the case and would be disappointed if it was.
