So, two games played, 1 point, zero goals scored, bottom of the group.
We're doing really well.

Very good performance against a very average English team.Felt they were there for the taking.
Unfortunately can’t see Scotland moving on until they find a goal scorer.
Dykes and Adams grafted away but like Christian Doidge in his goal drought periods they,re there to primarily score goals.
Can’t see Steve Clarke doing it but I would start Kevin Nisbet against Croatia with either Dykes or Adams as his partner.

Yup. Without wanting to sound like Charlie Nicholas, I'm sitting here thinking that with a bit of luck we could have been on 6 points by now. Nothing in the two games. I have a horrible feeling the Czech game will come back to haunt us.

But with our destiny almost in our own hands.
We are still alive going into the 3rd game. Taking nothing from what was arguably our easiest game was disappointing, taking a point from arguably our hardest game was very good. Bottom of the group after 2 games means nothing, it's where we are on Tuesday night that matters.

It was a great feeling to have a real connection with a Scotland team again. I’d kinda lost it. Not sure if it’s because we stopped getting the chance to play proper big games or what. Last night for the 2nd half i couldn’t sit down, pacing about and kicking every ball with them. Great performance that just needed a goal. Can’t remember enjoying a 0-0 so much before.
Me too. Personally I can't remember the last time I watched a game where the team that had the bigger price tag and was better on paper, never turned up and the wee team bossed them.

The funny thing is that we could still qualify for the next round... if we could just work out how to actually score a goal (or two).
I think we had one shot on target last night.
I've no idea if swapping one of the strikers for Nisbet would be the answer, but I would like to see Clarke at least try it in the next match.

After the buzz of last night this is how I'm feeling this morning. We have a chance on Tuesday of course but I see another glorious Scottish failure on the horizon. We just don't have a goalscorer in the team and I think that will ultimately cost us.
At least we have some hope! I don't expect Nisbet to start but if we need a goal going into the second half then I'd like to see him on earlier.

I think of yoi asked any Scotland fan would you take going into the last game needing a win to qualify(probably) they would have taken it. Think we had more than one shot on target(dykes and o donnell of the top of my head) and certainly a few attempts.

Nor me - and in any event even if I tried to recall it I can’t as the memory has been removed and placed into that bonkers pensieve or whatever it was called at the Harry Potter school - great things for Hibs fans and Scotland fans too for that matter - you can get them on Amazon you know - 19/05/2012 was a great day for me as was 22/05/2021 - you need to get one - you get to become a very happy person 👍
Ok - I’ll get Ma coat !

Every player gave their all last night which was all that could be asked. Just lacking that world class touch in the finishing department. It’ll be tough v Croatia but play like that and take our chances and we’ll win.

Agree, Dykes unfortunately hasn't worked (not through lack of effort). If we go back to 1 up front then we wont qualify. For me he has to stick with that formation with maybe 1/2 changes.

A repeat performance v Croatia is required.
Is that a tall order?

Agreed. Dykes doesn't work for me in a game like Tuesday. Start Kev and try something different. We need a goal.

Personally would change nothing from last nights starting team. Excellent performance with some good options from the bench. Just got to hope no injuries.

Yes. Croatia are an ageing side but they have quality and street smarts.
England probably felt the pressure to perform in front of their own fans. Croatia will be cagey and look to hurt us on the break.
We will need to be absolutely up for it but probably manage the game very differently.

Same here. Dykes was giving them problems in the air and closed them down brilliantly, Nisbet for me lacks that in his game.

Still loads of good players for Croatia watched their game yesterday were pretty poor first half but picked up second half when tall forward Petkovic came on. Modric was very quiet and Czech closed him down well. Very tricky game however if we can match the energy from last night we will make chances. If we get ahead fair chance they will react poorly and lose some discipline. Good thing is that they need a win also.

Yep wouldn't start KN at all. Dykes was unlucky not to score and his physicality will test Croatia. Adams also got into good positions also.

We need to find a way to score, we have nothing to lose on Tuesday, as it stands we're out and we know that nothing less than 3 points will be enough. We need to go for it from the first to the last whistle.

But Nisbet is much better in front of goals and when the ball is on the deck than Dykes and that is what is going to be important. All the defensive closing down won’t matter if we don’t put the ball into the net.

If everyone's fit I'd agree but if we need a goal then Nisbet needs to come on with time to get it. Thought he came on too late last night.

Scotland's last 16 chances are up to 36%
they were 57% pre-tournament but that dropped to 20% after our first game

No, it's four best third place finishers. Six group winners, six runner-ups, plus four best third place teams giving us a last sixteen.
In Group B, should Belgium beat Finland then the latter will only be on three points. In the other game, it's Denmark (0) against Russia (3), so only one of those teams can qualify. If Belgium and Denmark win, then even the 2nd place team qualifies on 3 points.
In Group A, only a Swiss win (against Turkey) will put the third place team on four points.
In Group C, as long as there is a winner in the Austria v Ukraine game, then the third place team will only have three points.
In Group F, if France and Portugal both win against Hungary and Germany respectively, then the third place team can't get four points.
In Group E, it's still too early to call but wins for Spain against Poland and Slovakia means the third place team can't get four points.
Four points will be enough, but obviously not 100% confirmed yet.
Cheers to all for clearing my muddled old head😀
So we reckon 4 points will do ….. simples really

I know it's the wrong thread, so apologies for adding to this, but Gulacsi is some guy. Vice-captain of his nation and wore a pride armband when captaining the team. In a nation like Hungary, that takes a lot of courage.

My son was at Wembley fir the game and was informed today that, on the day of the game, he was a “close contact” to someone who has tested positive fir Covid-19. He’s awaiting his own test result now but since I spoke to him I have heard of up to seven more people who have tested positive after being in London.
A bit worrying if that turns out to be a trend, especially for outdoor events

I expect it’s not the actual outdoor event that’s the problem but the travel to get there and everything else that surrounds it.

Possibly a bit of both. Entrance, exit, loos etc
Not many masks being worn by the Tartan army, or social distancing, until we're all vaxed up people will get it due to relaxation of the rules. This new variant is like the original virus, seems you get symptoms fairly quickly.

Having been in London the last couple of days I’m not surprised.
So many people aren’t wearing masks, nowhere is really enforcing it. It’s certainly not being taken half as seriously down there and compliance is very low.

Not been into London but I travel through out the south with work and live in Northern England I wouldnt really agree with that Callum. Groups of lads travelling together, gathering and being on the razzle and condensed travelling. This was always going to happen.

Same for me. Group of four of us have all had at least one vaccine. A lot of the boys I’m hearing that have tested positive, locally, are younger and totally unvaccinated.
Think a fair number were also at Leicester Square etc which we avoided.
