It’s against Celtic away, so guaranteed 3 points

I would settle with a draw

Magennis or Allan should have been on as soon as we went 2 goals up. Our insistence on playing a defensive mid when we should be on the front foot is really frustrating.

They went for it second half. Gogic was playing for most of the game as 1 of 2 in centre midfield, not really as just a defensive midfielder.

Magennis maybe but I wouldn’t have Allan in that role.

Another win away from home which is pretty remarkable, seem to be picking up the points quite well on the road, tough game as well on the back of St Mirrens win at parkhead, hopefully getting our mojo back now

They just scudded United 5-1 and won at Celtic Park. It isn't a good win it's an excellent win.

Also, not that long since they knocked Rangers out of the League Cup, plus Aberdeen the round before.

Brilliant 3 points for us.

The one thing I notice between playing Porteous or McGregor is how others play around them.

Mcgregor appears to have us all organised and everyone is a lot more disciplined and behind the ball. Doig for example is the most defensive I’ve seen him the past 2 games and rarely goes forward. We look a lot more solid like this but struggle playing out or really threatening the opposition.

Porteous makes us play better and more expansive, allowing McGinn and Doig to charge forward. As you can see from there goal though we’re a lot more open and easier to score again, especially on the counter.

Great result though we severely lacked composure on the ball after they scored. Thought St Mirren were very good being a man down . Still had a go and have some good players.

A really good win at a difficult venue.

I thought we were comfortable second half. Lost a poor goal against the run of play but that apart never looked troubled and Rocky had nothing to do.

Boyle and Murphy both excellent second half and, as a team, thought we were unlucky not to score more than 2.

I think a number of posters would do well to remember that there is opposition on the park. Seems to me that if we're not winning comfortably and playing free flowing then we are just deemed to be *****.

We've just taken 3 points from a team who's last 2 games have seen them win 1v5 at Dundee Utd and 1v2 at Celtic Park.

Some positivity wouldn't go amiss but, instead, what we get is the usual suspects one minute telling us St Mirren are pushing for a top 4 spot and then thinking we should turn up on a wet and windy night in Paisley and just blow them away.

He did that when he first arrived, the football was good and we were doing ok but teams were walking through us. I agree with you, Magennis would surely have been far better at keeping the ball.

Murphy was good second half, best I have seen him.
Doig excellent again.
Porteous and Nisbett played well when they came on.
Jackson Irvine was mom for me, played well again.
Boyle was better 2nd half,no coincidence playing out wide.
Overall was a good 3 points but genuinely was pretty poor entertainment yet again.

Pretty poor viewing and I don't think we played well but 3 points given other results are huge. This season with no fans it is all about results and squad building. We are doing fine with both. I've no real issue with workmanlike performances away from home even when watching in person. Given our results and performances at home Ross is maybe a bit lucky the fans aren't at the games. He is doing a great job away from home though

Ozyhibby
02-02-2021, 07:09 PM
That was pretty painful apart from a decent spell in the 2nd half which ended by us conceding a needless goal.

With Irvine miles off the standard he's set, we didn't have a midfield. Missed Newell so much and Doidge was dreadful. Ross has got to get them passing the ball, we were going long far too often in the first half. Big improvement when Boyle moved wide, he's never a central striker.

Disagree on Irvine. Still worked hard and broke up play when not on the ball.
Don’t care about style of play, just that we win and it’s great to see us no longer just letting teams dominate the midfield against us.

Did the ref have a bet on that or something? What was with the extra 90 seconds he felt like adding?

Not like there wasn't a break in play, there were easily 3 phases of attacks after we went past 3 mins, unreal
The board went up with 3 minutes whilst a player was down getting treatment. Easily a minute or so there.

Possibly, but how often do you see a ref going that far over the time held up by the 4th OFFICIAL? He also let St Mirren take their time to get organised for their final throw in and made sure they weren't going to score before blowing for FT.

I found it a bit iffy TBH.

Good result tonight especially with dons getting beat. Performance not great but getting concerned about the amount of ball we give away. The passing at times was awful and really need to work on that. Still 3rd a realistic opportunity now.

I thought at 2-0 we just needed to do the right things. Gogic started running about all over the place. When we lost the ball leading to the goal it was with him trying to join in up the park and that was part of the reason we were all over the shop. Thought that was poor, they just all seemed to lose a bit concentration thinking the game was done.

For the fans, that would be amazing.

But no manager in any league in the world is going to purposely make their defence weaker when 2 goals up.

As someone has said, it was the only reason we lost a goal. Got caught short at the back, with too many bodies up the park.

Agreed. Think the team is still bruised from both semi finals and lacking a bit of confidence, even when ahead.

Maybe if a space can be found for Newell or Allan it would give us a bit composure, but whatever Ross has done over the last couple of games it’s working.

Well done tonight Hibs.

Another great 3 points without playing particularly well. To put things into perspective we are 9 points better off than last seasons total after 30 games and we still have games to play to improve that more. 10 points out of 15 so far in this round of fixtures is decent, if we can take another 10 or more we'll be in a good place👍

Spot on with that, some of the clearances were panic stricken when we need a cool head giving instructions. The one that comes to mind was Porteous having a clear header on our 18 yard line and manage to hit Obika standing beside him, it was some achievement. Still great 3 points even though it got a bit nervy at the end.

Boyle's alertness, concentration and sharpness was what got the St Mirren goalie sent off - a lot of players wouldn't have been up to speed in time to force the foul out of the goalie and it would still have been 11 vs 11. That clever bit of movement was as good as a goal from a player who has got two actual goals in two games now.

Personally I think the slight change in formation and playing him up top has helped him last couple of games. Prior to that his form was poor, more because teams doubled up on him and denied him space - he became obvious to defend against. The tweak in formation has allowed him more freedom in my opinion. He occupies more defenders by his movement centrally and has made opposition managers (and players) think more. Goals, assists and influence on games are increasing his confidence :aok:

The decisions that went our way were blatant though - the red wasn't contentious and neither was the penalty. Boyle gets the red card by using his alertness to draw the keeper into a split second decision of leave him to go through to an open goal or take him down, Murphy gets the penalty by some direct running.

St Mirren have just won 5-1 and then defeated Celtic at Celtic Park. They're a good team on an excellent run of form and we had no right to win that game comfortably, and so it panned out. We made our own luck today, in essence.
