Needed a win. Got a win. Played OK on a crap pitch. Took a couple of chances which has been out biggest problem in recent weeks. Also got a wee bit of the rub of the green with the penalty.
Taking everything into consideration I can't see how we can have too many complaints about that today. Bigger test next time out though.

Will be surprised if Utd don’t sack manager soon. Fans don’t seem to happy with him.
Agreed. Listening to him, he just doesn’t come across well in any interview I’ve heard.
I don’t see players paying much attention to what he says, he just rambles along with cliches he’s heard on the telly.

Good win and needed, not overly pretty on a sticky pitch but did well. Toss up between Daz and Irvine for MOTM, Daz is that leader on the pitch we've been crying out for and Irvine has the energy in the middle.

Don't worry about that, as he thought Boyle should be replaced. Who scored the second Stu? Magennis will come good just needs game time, he did make a wrong decision but to be expected considering he's finding his way back. I have been a critic of JR but Magennis for Murphy was the right first switch to make. A positive for me was Chris Cadden, took some sore ones, made a run from our box to theirs on the right, won a throw in and in the process saw three or four of the opponents of. Just concerned that JR doesn't see that he needs to rest him as much as possible because he put in a massive shift there. I'd give him the next two days off to recover. Two good January signings and everyone knows it. Two challenges on Cadden with studs showing, nothing, body check from Daz, yellow card. The school for idiot refereeing indeed does exist in Scotland.

Great result today particularly give the results around us. If we do lose Nisbet I hope we can get someone in quickly or better still another couple of strikers. Daz has been excellent the last two games. We needed a Daz type figure in defence and it shouldn't have been much of a stretch to realise there was one sitting on the bench. Cadden ran himself into the ground and tired later on and Irvine was still making lung busting runs into their half late into the game. It seems odd that the new signings despite a lack of games look our most energetic players. At last we have something to smile about and the board and owner need to make sure if we are selling assets we can get replacements in before the window closes to at least keep the unlikely chance of second alive and make sure we have a shot at 3rd.

Was a bit sloppy second half but was a great team performance which everyone played well enough not to get singled out.
Cadden was non stop energy which we need and when he gets some more games under his belt hopefully can push on and get in on the assists.
Lovely assist from Irvine for the second and Europe could tempt him to extend beyond the summer.
Big daz again a rock at the back, looking back now he should of maybe played either one of the semis, I dont think hes done as a player but we need some new blood at the back eventually.
Lets hope Ross was just resting Nisbet and hes not off in the next few days.

Indeed. On the steepest terracing in history where the Dod Fox stand is now. I think a few of us nearly toppled on to the pitch about twenty rows in front of us when that equaliser went in 😀

Our record against them in the early 80s was horrible. I mind being beside myself when we were 1-0 up at ER in the Cup in 82. United got a last minute corner and the inevitable happened, followed by the inevitable in the replay. Bizarrely in the same season we didn't win an away game until April, and that was at Tannadice. I think we added to that at Firhill a few weeks later.

Im 57 and I too remember what a hard place Tannadice was to go and get a result.
They had a brilliant team who would come at you down both flanks. That terracing was steep and scary too.
In contrast at Easter Road they were so frustrating to watch. McAlpine, to Narey, to Hegarty back to McAlpine.
Mind Arthur scoring a daisy cutter from the half way line against Hamish McAlpine at ER though.

Was it not the second replay? Two draws then toss of a coin for who got to host the third match. Think it was on a Monday night. There was a big crowd for the 2nd replay. We were gubbed 3-0 IIRC.

You're right there. I remember a chant of "United are boring".

I remember that game like it was yesterday. Very big crowd that night, played well against a very good Utd side and were a goal up with seconds to go. Benny had the ball and tried to pass it back to the keeper who in those days could pick it up and waste a bit of time and then hoof it up the other end. Well Benny being Benny made a James Hunt of the back pass and it went for a corner. As was said the inevetible happened and Utd equalised from the corner

FFS Memories, I remember the steepness of the terracing when Rice hit that volley.
Use to travel from the Artisan Pub and I don't think our younger viewers realise how good it was standing and then pogoing about when we scored.
That strip was a bit shiny if I remember, the static electricity.....lol

I seem to recall there was a pretty small Hibs support there.
Great game, I was there, got a comp from one of the players. 38 years ago wow.

I was in the Standing Enclosure under the North Stand for that game. Sickener. We won the toss so the 2nd replay was at ER. Bigger crowd than the first replay, around 13,000 saw us pumped 0-3.
I fondly remember a Gordon Rae 25 yarder getting us a 1-1 draw at Tannadice later in the 80’s.

Would never do such a thing. But it was such a Benny thing to do!! To be fair if everyone who played for Hibs have the 100% commitment that he did we would be fine. Average player who always tried his best

yup spot on, my god you got shivers any time he tried anything fancy. in fact scrub that... when tried anything other than hoofing it down the pitch  but he was picked by multiple managers who must have appreciated his effort.

For those who still think Doig's was a handball, take a look at Sportscene. James McFadden has just stated it was not a penalty, as the rules state that if the ball comes off another part of the players body and then hits the arm it is not a penalty. You can see on the highlights that the ball comes of Doig's chest then onto his arm - so no penalty.
The rule change from the BBC website.
So should a penalty be given every time the ball hits a player's hand in the area? No. The exceptions are if the ball hits a player's arm directly from the player's own head or body and if a player is falling and their arm is between themselves and the ground for support. There is also room for interpretation as to what makes a player's body 'unnaturally bigger'.
