We were in Belfast at the weekend and did a taxi tour of the Shankhill and the Falls Road. The guide recommended that we watch "Once Upon A Time in Northern Ireland" on the BBC iPlayer. It is basically personal stories of people who were either involved directly in The Troubles or that lived through it - from both sides and those who weren't really on a side at all. We got back yesterday and watched the first two episodes (it is a five parter). It is excellent. Some brutally honest stories and reflections from the people involved.

We'll hopefully finish it tonight.

In the area I’m from in Donegal we have some beautiful beaches , one of them in particular that I regularly go too had one of the worst tragic events in Irish history that happened in 1943 which is still talked about today.

There was a Documentary made on it that apparently won a few awards , I’m not saying it’s good . I will let you be the judge of that .

Hopefully it’s alright to show it as I thought it might interest some you . Anyhow this is ‘ BALLYMANUS ‘ ….. Apologies about the breaks in it .

Was about to post about this, the whole process is fascinating to me. I’m doing a degree in Criminology and Law love every program like this. It definitely seems we have the same taste in tv, I noticed you’ve posted recently about a few series that you’ve watched. For example the Greek college program. I would be grateful if you had any other suggestions that I might have missed, especially if they’ve been on in other countries.

Wondered if you’d watched Accused : innocent or Guilty. Fascinating insight into the American justice system I saw it on channel 5 but realised it was series 5 so went back to my fire stick to watch from the start.

I’m fairly sure they’re new as I haven’t seen them, but I may be wrong. There’s 2 new trails added to Murder Trials on IPlayer. They previously covered 3 cold cases, on Margaret Fleming, Dr Brenda Page and another case of a murdered mother and child. Just posting in case anyone else has missed this.

Having now watched the first new episode I just thought it would be interesting to add that I recently served on a High Court jury and the prosecutor was the same KC, I felt he was very fair and put his points across extremely well. He gave fair dialogue on the defences case and was very professional. Now starting the second one and it’s the same prosecutor, and also the defence lawyer who was part of my case is involved for one of the accused, I also found him very professional and he did his best to defend someone who we ultimately found guilty on 6 separate less serious charges that are being decided on here.

Same judge too. This is so fascinating for me to see the same lawyers do their stuff.

Murder Case and Murder Trial both on currently, very similar programmes, both worth a watch.

If anyone fancies an interactive version of this, I’d recommend a show called Murder Trial Tonight. I’ve been to it twice (two different cases). They show some videos acting out some things leading up to the murder. Then the show is the trial and the audience is the jury. Based on real cases with names changed. After the “jury” gives their verdict, they then show a video acting out what actually happened and the real outcome of the trial.

Think it’s coming back to Edinburgh soon with yet a different case.

We got talking to one of the cast in the bar after the first one and he was saying with that one, every audience had voted the same way which was the “correct” verdict in that we correctly found the person not guilty but the actual outcome was guilty and the person spent years in jail incorrectly. Amazing, assuming no evidence was left out of the show, that the real jury voted that way.

He was on Celebrity Big Brother last year. Didn't come across well at all on that. Came across as manipulative, conniving, a bully and a malicious gossip. Pretty sure he was ripping into Simon Cowell for less than what was described above about himself as well. I think Jedward absolutely despise the guy. I was kind of hoping the producers would put them in to confront him.

Was just about to watch it but see it’s a 2 part series so I’ll wait for second one.

New series of Forensics, The Real CSI has started, one of my favourites.

Just realised that both episodes are available on iPlayer for anyone else that was waiting for episode 2.

Con Mum on Netflix, terrible luck for the guy involved but cant help but feel he dropped his guard for both natural and possibly greed fuelled intentions, decent watch nothing ground breaking I'm just a sucker for 90min docu's a rarity these days

Love, Loss and the Pandemic. 5 years on. On iPlayer now. Very emotional and very angering at the same time. So many people died that could have been avoided.

Watching Gone Girls, The Long Island Serial Killer. The American police’s attitude towards sex workers is disgraceful. Not an easy watch but very powerful.

The Final: Attack on Wembley on Netflix. It is about ticketless England fans forcing their way into Wembley at the Euro 2020 final. Absolute thugs. I remember one tiny bit of the incident being reported at the time but it didn't look like anything on the scale shown in the documentary. Did I just miss it at the time or was it not fully reported?

Think it is an old one on Prime so it’s probably been mentioned before but just enjoyed The Other Side of Edinburgh about Tony Hand who comes across as a thoroughly decent, modest and humble bloke.

Kinahan: The True Story of Ireland's Mafia

Four episodes. First three on the iplayer which I binged last week but the final episode not available until next week. Fascinating insight from the birth of the clan in the 80s right up to the present day. Much carnage along the way. I won’t give any spoilers but enjoyed it.

I watched it, had already saw a previous documentary so knew what to expect, all a bit weird though. The man who murdered his family on the iPlayer is also worth a watch

I have a real dichotomy with Dara O’Briain. I think he is very funny but I often have real difficulty listening and understanding him, because of the speed he talks at along with his Irish brogue. Just saying.

It's on my list as I love these type of documentaries. I did see yesterday the Daily Record are claiming they are one of the groups involved in the recent Edinburgh-Glasgow gang war through their Scottish allies.

Watched this last week. Crazy how bad the policing was throughout. Mad how many serial killers there have been in that one area. The fact they said this one was "the worst for a generation" rather than the only/worst ever says it all. Found it wild just how apparently normal the killer can seem but has the darkest of secrets.

Struggling to sleep with an injury just now so about to stick on the sky documentary "Schmeichel "

Big Peter was an idol of mine growing up. I generally played outfield at youth football but was always first to go in goals if our keeper got injured or suspended

Spent a bit of time between the sticks playing Sunday amateur when I got a bit older

The Rory Gallagher Story on BBC i-player.
Shy and shunned the limelight and commercialisation of his music, never releasing a single. At his peak he was rated No.1 guitarist by Melody Maker (above Clapton, Page, Beck etc.), but he is still under-rated and also under the radar to many, esp the younger generations. I was lucky to see him live a couple of times late 70s. Awesome.
