A lot of the OTT reaction is maybe due to people who are usually at the game, who wouldn't normally post on the match thread and struggle to watch us on TV.
Definitely J. Coupled with the fact that much of what is said on here is pretty much important only to the folks on here. Self important sometimes but in the grand scheme, limited relevance.

I didn't read this thread until after the game had finished but I certainly had a chuckle reading through it.
FWIW I didn't think the reaction was excessive or appalling.
It's easy to comment with hindsight, but we weren't in a great place there. We'd missed chances when on top, lost a goal that was coming for a while and had fallen out of a cup tie we'd be fully expecting to win. Anything other than a win would have seriously dented our ambitions of winning this trophy, one of only 3 that we can win (2 realistically) this season. This was coming off the back of a few really questionable performances and results.
Some folk are better than others at stepping away from the keyboard when the heid is boiling and the toys are being thrown out of the pram. I don't really wish to be all that judgmental of those who maybe post unwisely, in anger, at key points when games are going against us as was the case at one point today.
The thread wasn't really any different to any other one, at any other time when things start to drift away from Hibs in a winnable home game - fans at games or no fans at games. It's always carnage, as it probably should be.

Wasn't able to watch it but the BBC pundit described it as "a great game".
I wouldn't go that far. I thought if we're honest for about an hour the game was fairly drab. Dundee weren't great then we let them into it a little bit in the run up to their goal but we then turned something on and killed the game. I would like to see us maybe have that bit of drive before an opponent scores against us to equalise the game but that's a different discussion.

Have a read of the twitter thread of their equaliser.

Who's this George Newell that plays for Hibs?

"Jack Ross' side, who made it four wins out of four in Group B, started strongly and Mallan received George Newell's pass before unleashing a 30-yard strike that beat goalkeeper Jack Hamilton in a central location."

For me, the way we went at them after they scored was good. Or maybe it was more the way we didn’t sit on our goal actually.
I think we’re a bit boring (maybe safe is a better word) and play within ourselves a lot of the time. I think we have plenty players who can contribute going forward but don’t do enough. I don’t know if that’s down to them, the way they are set up or whatever, but we need to have a bit more drive and be a bit more aggressive going forward.

I'll generally defend people's right to criticise. After a derby defeat or a performance like up at Aberdeen it's natural people want to vent and some of the criticism is merited. The stuff that crosses a line is noticeable but from a minority.
However some of the stuff today was ridiculous. The comment about Doig in particular irks me, totally unnecessary thing to say about a young lad learning the game. We played well, didn't take our chances and allowed them back into it then stepped it up again and ran out comfortable and deserved winners.
If people want to be taken seriously on any platform then making a point at the correct time will have the most impact. Resorting to a 'Hibs are pish' default every time we have a bad 5 minutes is the behaviour of a moron.
Pretty much spot on all of it. Some either hate Hibs because they don't support them or through some weird self loathing.

I agree with all of this. I would like to see us play like we did after Dundee equalised more often and not when pressed into it by our opponent scoring.

4-1 is a pleasing result, but for the 1st half we were pretty awful - the 2nd half goals were well taken ... need to do better though overall

He is in exactly the same place as Joe Newall was last season. He is also being played in a few positions same as Joe was.
He needs a run in the team in a position where he is comfortable and I think he'll make a good contribution. Plenty time for him.
Sorry, but I thought he was terrible today.
He's been given a few opportunities now to impress the Manager and failed.
He's not going to get a run in the team just for the sake of it, a fringe player has to make an impact when he gets an opportunity and today he failed to impress.
I thought we started well and took the foot off the pedal, the subs made a difference and in the end it was a bif of a stroll. Very disappointed with Wright, I just dont think he's good enough, today was a great chance for him to show us what he could do. Murphy showed some good glimpses of what he's capable of, all in all a decent result, just need to keep up these levels all game.

In nearly every game we become slow and ponderous at an early stage. At throw ins there was virtually no movement whatsoever. Until the substitutions the movement all over the park had almost ground to a halt. We really need to pick up the speed as happened in the last 15 minutes.

I think our throw ins are much improved usually retain possession

Keep thinking and hoping we are going to see something from Drey Wright but he’s probably been our worst player this season which isn’t great for someone coming to a new club. Pray he has a bit of the doodle and Newells about him and it’s a slow burner

Our lack of killer instinct in front of goal could’ve cost us yesterday as it has done a few times already this season. Thankfully the subs made a big impact and we upped the tempo after it went 1-1. Not sure it was fully Doig’s fault for the goal, Murphy should’ve been tracking back from what I saw but he certainly misjudged the header.
Still expecting a lot more from Wright, he’s just not done it for us this season at all minus the goal vs Rangers.

always hopeful but have we ever had a player from St Johnstone set the Heather alight for us?

I agree about Wright but you could say the exact same about Murphy. Both are coming back from long-term injury so they might take a little bit of time yet. The only difference is that Murphy looks better on the eye and it's obvious he can play football but apart from his assist last night I cant remember much contribution from him this season either.

Folk can’t wait to jump on and criticise, mate.
Players getting slaughtered in a game we largely controlled and won 4-1.
Half the folk doing it are nowhere to be seen when we’re doing well, too.
There's a common wee argument that crops up every now and then, and it's when someone says SOME fans are in a perverted way quite happy when we lose or a player they don't like performs badly as it allows them to post or shout vitriolic abuse at their own team or players. As you say, this type of 'fan' is never to be seem when it goes the other way.
Anyone who dares to say it generally gets met with a bit of vitriol themselves (or abused for implying they're an 'uber fan') and absolutely assured that NO Hibs fan wants the team or a player to do badly....
Think folk are kidding themselves on that there isn't a new breed of 'fan' that quite simply likes nothing more that to vent against their own club and players and blame other fans for being 'happy clappers' (not being abusive enough) and 'accepting mediocrity'.

When I was younger a new signing got at least half a season to fit in, now they are lucky to get half a game.

Yep could of been a couple up, Joe Newell off the post and a few Nisbet headers, still not a perfect performance but much better than recent weeks.
Daz strolled it and I though boyle was almost back to the way we all know he can play.

Paul Wright? Maybe never set us alight but did well.
Paul Hanlon had a season loan there before getting a start for us.

Was only there for a month. Think it was the season after he broke through here.
