View Full Version : Hecky out

Why would it be with the lawyers? Other teams just sack managers but we need to ask out lawyers first?
Depends on what his contract states in terms of a severance package... there could be performance clauses that require negotiating in regard to how well he thinks he has done and how well the board think he has done....
Getting to a cup semi final will stand in his favour in this regard, even though the performances on the park have been dire all round.

Least jack Ross knows what’s required in Scotland. Hecky signed players that aren’t suited to the Scottish game which I feel has been his biggest down fall
This was only part of his downfall, the other reasons were his non motivation skills, his total lack of how to play the team, his stubbornness to keep playing with one striker when it’s fairly obvious that neither, Kamberi or Doidge or for that matter Shaw, can play the lone striker, hence our lack of goals and finally his inability to change when more than often he’s got it wrong to begin with.
He underestimated the Scottish game like so many before him did and thought anyone from England, even lower league players, could come up here and crack it no bother, wrong, totally wrong.
Time to go.

If we leave it till Xmas / Winter break it will be a terrible decision by the board.
Now is the perfect time to get someone in.
Assess squad and provide a shopping list for January. Considering we were trying to get rid of Shaw I’m also sceptical we have no ££ for any new players.
I would loan out to an English team as a minimum Vela and Newell.
Jack Ross probably doing a Lafferty playing Hibs off against Hearts.
I'm not convinced by Jack Ross and think we would end up with more of the same. Be happy with Stubbs as long as Doolan came too. I guess the Yogi/Collins thing was a joke but if the got it for a few months to hopefully steady the ship? I'd be ok with that for the interim.
Long term, I'd hope we were looking at Steve Robinson of Motherwell.

Agreed.
Stubbs with Doolan minimum to at least give the fans a lift and Im sure they players would start enjoying their football again.
Doolan was an assistant down south but is he back as a scout at Everton?
Doolan and Unsworth also a good shout.

Jack Ross had Mallan and Lewis Morgan tearing the championship apart. Stephen McGinn is also a really good holding mid, although plagued with injuries.
I'd be more inclined to get Robinson is who gets performances out of players at this level, even if he isn't at a club with great resources. I also feel he's got that kind of infectious character and energy our squad is missing. I don't think Jack is that kind of character.

Suggestions of Jack Ross give me serious concerns. Hopefully wont be the case but certainly see parallels with Fenlon being replaced by Butcher.
This whole "knows what the league is about" is utter rubbish when you see how often we've failed as a club with Scottish, English or Irish managers. Quite a few of whom have had experience in the league in one way.
let's not kid ourselves, if we dont get the next managerial appointment right and get the January transfer window right we could be in a relegation battle right up until the last day. Worries me a fair bit, dont think I could substantiate another year in championship paying £400 for a season ticket...

This post surely could be replicating a St Mirren fans take on appointing Ross before he joined them from Alloa? He then went on to get wins for a side bottom of the championship, used the January window perfectly then built a squad to absolutely smash the Championship.

I’m also not sure why people thought something would change today.
The Board didn’t act after our league games and the Celtic game I think we’ve all pretty much accepted there can’t be much judgement made on.
It points to him being backed to carry on until at least the next league game.

I'd have bitten your hand off for Jack Ross pre-Sunderland but his experience there gives me concerns.
Basically every concern we have about Heckingbottom their fans had with Ross - underestimated, didn't know the league and signed players not capable doing the business at that level, struggled to beat teams with a much lower budget, rigidly sticking with one up front and far too many draws.
Surely if we're not wanting what Hecky brings then what we are wanting is something noticeably different?

I agree. Ross seems a carbon copy, if not worse than Hecky if you read the Sunderland forum. For the reasons you've mentioned they were rejoicing when he was sacked. "Clueless" was a word used frequently. Do we really want that?

Stubbs on short term contract till May and then a review of the situation. If we climb the table, winning as many of the games we normally would be expected to, and we are playing decent football, offer him a one year rolling contract. If we continue to draw most games and avoid the drop, thank him and move on.

I really thought this would be the day he goes. Judging by the fact the Hibs Twitter is now active again it suggests there will be no announcement that he's gone today, and if he's not gone today then I would wager that means he gets St Johnstone who have finally started to win games. We could be in serious trouble.

I think there would be zero harm in bringing Alan Stubbs back in the interim. We're at the point now where our season will be one of hoping to even make top 6 and at the very least not be within touching distance of the teams trying to survive relegation come Spring time. That would probably be a "success" given the state we are in now.
If Stubbs can get us playing some good football (which we know he has the potential of doing) and if he can bring a feel good factor back to the fans (something he done previously) then it would be a successful appointment. Even if it was just to the summer before someone else we really wanted became available and then came in and picked up from there.
The problem we, and even Hearts have, right now is whoever comes in will have to work with the exact same gang of wasters that Levein and Hecky have had. I don't really see the next person coming in and lifting us to 6 wins in a row and have us within touching distance of Europe come January 1st. Whoever we bring in could be a good man for the job but there's always the realistic chance that we could go out and lose our next 3/4 games under him and it not really be a reflection on him as a manager, but then all of a sudden the question marks exist over him as the weeks go on and we're back to square 1 of apathy and a disconnect between fans and the manager.
Which is why I think Stubbs' history of rebuilding could be so important. This season is effectively a write off unless something special happens, lets start focusing on laying the groundwork for next season and the next permanent manager, whether that's Stubbs or not.

Could happen, forcing PH hand. He's not being demoted if we bring in a new manager and he stays as head coach. We would then just change the responsibilities that are assigned to head coach to the manager meaning it's up to PH if he wants to stay in a coaching only capacity or not.

Stubbs did brilliantly at sifting through the wreckage following on from Butcher.
He did have a relatively blank canvas but his transfer business was overwhelmingly good. He identified that Hanlon, Stevenson and Cummings were worth hanging onto. He got a tune for a while out of Craig, Robertson and Handling before moving them on.
Sifting through our current squad and carrying out exactly what he did before is exactly what we need now. I do think that we have some excellent talent (Allan, Flo, Marciano, Porteous, Gray, McGregor) and a lot of players who could do a job in the right team. I don't think there's anyone that I'd have down as a dead loss right now but I'd trust Stubbs to make that call.

Ach, chill out.
I take it you saw the "asking for a friend" comment and the wink, but have you read some of the serious suggestions that folk have made on here?
My daft suggestion is down to earth, gritty reality compared to some of them.
Collins, Yogi and a Paul Kane or something dream team was one! Jaap Stan could do a job and Michael O'Neill should be wooed.
It's all mental at the moment.
If we hadn't just appointed a sporting director I'd have gone the other way. Appoint PH as DoF/SD and get a new head coach. I think Heckingbottom's skill set is rather more suited to the theoretic rather than practical - he's just too longwinded to get over tactical instructions to actual players. In this respect I think he's basically another Cathro.

I don't want Stubbs at all. Nice guy and legend but had we lost the Cup Final in 2016 he would have been thanked for his services and punted.
His teams could not handle Falkirk. Time after time they knew how to play us. Long Throws and diagonals into our box every time.
Was absolutely horrific watching us struggle against them. Lennon solved that in one game using Grant Holt as a battering ram and reorganising the defence.

Talking about Cathro, i head Austin McPhee's post game interview on the radio this morning. Could have sworn it was Cathro. Same kind of voice, same mannerisms, same long winded incomprehensible nonsense he seamed to just throw in in the hope it would somehow form into a coherent answer. It's no wonder they are where they are.

We'll be on two wins from twelve league games.

Personally I always thought the team Stubbs built was more suited to the Premier League than the Championship. We always did very well against the Premier teams in cup competitions.
Also, Lennon won the league with only 1 point more than Stubbs did the previous season. Big difference being Rangers were not in the league!

Absolutely spot on. Give him a couple of transfer windows to clear out the dross and we'd be looking good again. Mallan would be a great player under Stubbs, he developed McGinn, McGeouch and Allan no end.

Finishing ahead of Sevco in his first season and finishing behind Falkirk in his second cancelled each other out in my book, so overall I thought his league record was ok.
His cup record was exceptional and I enjoyed the football so overall I view him as a big success.

100% this.
He left us at the 1st
opportunity for the mighty Rotherham and did terribly. If he hadn't had that disastrous few months at St Mirren I would maybe be more open to it but no thanks.
We need an experienced helmsmen to see us through to the end of the season. We could go down a caretaker route until May.

Don’t want to pick on the cat as that discussion has been done to death but whenever a rumour like this starts there’s always a lot of educated guessing that goes on.
That’s not to say that’s what he’s done but there’s probably a fair chance that’s what a lot of these sources that have started doing the rounds have done.
That’s also not to say it won’t happen, I just don’t think I believe all these sources, it’s just people guessing imo.

Of course it's nonsense.
The fact that the boy believes that someone would spend all their money on a football club in another country, cleverly deceiving the previous owners in order to do so, whilst leaving himself short tells you a lot about what he wants to believe.
And, most likely, what team he supports.

The football has been awful and it has been hard to make any sort of case for him staying on, but there is a part of me that just feels horrible when a decent man loses his job.

Looks like several sources saying he’s gone, that’s good enough for me.
But still would like to here it officially from Hibs

Could be Moyes.
He just said he used to manage Sunderland....
It's Robbie Stockdale.
He was caretaker at Sunderland.
Either that or Martin O'Neill

Feels similar to when Fenlon left. Pats time was up but was a really likeable guy, same with Hecky although I don’t like him quite as much as Fenlon.

Wonder if there’s a replacement lined up to take over immediately

Agreed although I think Hibs should have put him out his misery much sooner. It was obvious months ago he was never turning things around and they just prolonged the agony with the supporters getting angrier by the day. He'll have a nice pay off to fall back on I'm sure.

:agree: He, himself, based on his quotes about managership, will be philosophical about getting the heave. Hopefully he can find an English league 1 or 2 club willing to relieve us of the duff players he brought to ER.

Absolutely no idea what that means. To be clear I haven't backed Hibs in a single bet or included them in any accumulator for weeks. Now there may be reasons (new manager, bounce, etc to rethink.

I don't very many of us gave up on backing the Hibees on a Saturday, be it from near or far.
Trust and faith in the man in the dugout was completely shot to pieces and he had to go. Didn't happen as quickly as I personally would've liked as even Mystic ****ing Meg could have told us he wasn't going to be able to turn it around but I guess after those last 2 home league games the penny dropped for LD and RG.

After failure with the Hibs gig, I think he will struggle for a while to get back into management. Hopefully the pack of player cards will start falling in January.

As did I and I suspect 99% of anyone reading that sentence. We could resurrect Jock Stein and pair him with Turnbull's Tornadoes (at their peak, not nowadays!) and I probably still wouldn't bet on the Hibs. Them and Liverpool have scuppered more coupons of mine than I care to even try to remember :greengrin

Why so much negativity towards Stubbs or team Stubbs\Doolan.
These guys turned a very poor team into a cup winning team with regular hampden visits.
Yes we fell short a few times to get division 1 promotion whilst playing some of the best football this club has seen.
Then Lennon came along and took his team and won many plaudits(with Stubbses players) till he left from then team was on the downward spiral .
I would welcome Stubbs anytime if we could bring his style of football back so i can re-engage this team again.
Anyone else is a gamble. J Ross had a large squad and bigger check book at sunderland and failed no for me.

To be fair that had been all over the place this morning and although I doubted it was actually happening today folk like the Cat have made a living on taking a call on these matters. When it works you’re in the know, when it doesn’t things change so no big deal.
