As I said a poor poor defence ...this will be our downfall this season ...
We'ved conceded the joint second least amount of goals this season and you're calling our defence out downfall. wow.
We've conceded the same as celtic ffs.

Against the worst team in the league who had less attempts on goal than tonights opposition.... Inconclusive evidence.
Next.Motherwell, Hearts, St Johnstone, Kilmarnock, Ross Country and Dundee United didn't score from set plays against us either.

1. Let a and b be equal non-zero quantities
a = b
2. Multiply by a
a2 = ab
3. Subtract b2
a2 - b2 = ab - b2
4. Factor both sides
(a - b)(a + b) = b(a - b)
5. Divide by (a - b)
a + b = b
6. Observing that a = b
b + b = b
7. Combine like terms on the LHS
2b = b
8. Divide by the non-zero b
2 = 1
9. Subtract 1
1 = 0
Petrie! :grr:
Holy Cow. :clapper::hmmm:
So if we apply this to our historical derby results, we are actually doing alright!:agree:

I dont think Hanlon was stinking...he certainly didnt have a great game but i'd put that down to poor performance from Nelson and McGivern. He had a decent game against St Mirren. Nelson was "all at sea" tonight. If we play that set up again i'd replace Taiwo with Thomson who is made for that role. The CBs really had no one to pass out to in midfield.....Craig ended up coming back for the ball and he shouldnt have to.
Its funny how its always someone elses fault. :faf: Why was Nelson all at sea, could it be Maybury's fault or was he just poor on the night? :confused:

Nelson was poor last night, McGivern was playing his own game and decided not to defend in the time he came on he was that far up the pitch at one point that Lewis had to rush over to cover for McGivern who was strolling back as Stranraer attacked up his side, Lewis and Maybury were solid in there time on the pitch, Hanlon was okay but Nelson and McGivern were woeful last night.
Not keen on Nelson.

You have just had a whoosh moment SH :wink:, if you read underscores posts, Hanlons mistakes are never his fault, always someone elses.
I was just pointing that out in my own special way. :wink:

Maybe we've just had a graphic demonstration of the importance of Kevin Thomson as defensive midfield?
Vine and Zoubir came in; Heffernan was cup-tied and Thomson was rested.
KT shields the centre-backs, and on Saturday Robertson and Maybury were operating an effective right-wing partnership, covering for one another, taking turns going forward in attack. The changes could have really unsettled the team, but at HT we were 3-1 up and had the game under control.
Then Alan Maybury went off to be replaced by McGivern, with Lewis switching to the right. The balance of the side changed, and things went slightly pear-shaped for a while.
Then we got the penalty, and saw out the game.
These things happen. We're through.
I'm not so sure that McGivern's a better bet at LB than Lewis, though.

Petrie! :grr:
By step 3 you have established that 0 = 0.
So however you multiply or divide through after that the results will be meaningless.

It was a typically entertaining cup tie featuring teams from different divisions, plenty of goals, drama, some unforced errors and spirited performances from the lower team. Is that not what cup ties involving lower teams are about and why there are often giant killings in cup competitons? We're through to the next round that's all that matters in the cup...................next.

Many people, myself included, have (with much justification) complained about a lack of entertainment at ER, but a really good game requires a genuine contribution from both teams, which is what happened last night.
Many posters dismissed our win against St. Mirren as they didn't put up much opposition (something we deserve credit for), and last night some posters aren't happy as we made harder work of the tie than we should (something Stranraer deserve much credit for). We can't win - even when we do win.
After going a goal down early we won an 8 goal tie, and a midfielder scored a hat trick in what was an entertaining match - our defence looked all over the place and Williams was out of sorts IMO, but if you're going to conceded three goals, better to do it when you've scored five yourselves.
All in all, it was a decent night's work, and an enjoyable time at ER for the second match running - and we are through to the quarter finals of the LC.
