View Full Version : The Leigh Griffiths Mega Thread (latest: new contract signed with Wolves)
Really surprised.
His career stalled big time at Wolves and only picked up again after going out on loan. I also think the line Wolves have taken to claim that this was their plan all along is complete bull. They allowed him to stay out on loan when they badly needed a striker because they wanted rid of him.
I hope he now doesn't regret this when he rips League 1 to shreds and has Premiership clubs looking to sign him next year. Have to say that I think this is short sighted from Leigh.
There's a new manager there with a proven track record in man management, he'll put his arm round him and make him feel important at Wolves.

Excellent. Now his long term future is secure, whens he coming back on loan? :cb

Really odd move. Not surprised he is not coming back to us, although disappointed. Why on earth would he commit to a League One side for so long. If he has a good season he could play in the EPL for mega bucks. Very odd. Good luck to him though.

He will be back at Hibs one day...maybe just not as soon as we had hoped.
The guy has families to look after and you can't grudge him signing on securing money for the next few years.
What does still disappoint me is we didn't go all out to get him when he was on loan and Wolves were in turmoil. We spend 200k on Collins when that 200k could have brought LG to ER for a few seasons.

Thanks for the goals Leigh, while gutted he's not coming back in the near future, i'm pleased the speculation is over and we can get on with looking for a replacement (I still think/hope we've room for anothr striker).

TBH we were pretty unlucky with Leigh pretty sure Rod thought he would be available for free (or a nominal fee) at the end of last season as Wolves didn't seem keen to hold on to him.
Unfortunately them being relegated & the new manager coming in and being keen to give him a chance went against us.
You can't blame him he has quite a few kids to feed and we would all follow the cash if we got the chance.
Will be back at Hibs one day, good luck Leigh. :aok:

He'll be at least a championship player next year with wolves and as you said potentially better if he has a good season. I think it's a good move for him over all.

Griffiths will sign for Hibs in January on a pre-contract.
You're the fifty-sixth person to be wrong about that.

Unsurprised and I can"t help thinking fans who thought he"d sign soon were living in a fantasy land. The difference in wages would be too much for him to ignore. I noticed that Tudor Jones described himself as a "journeyman footballer" on twitter and sadly that is indeed the level of signing we are at at present.
Good luck Leigh and thanks for the memories.

...and if he picks up a bad injury? The security of a good length deal, at a decent club, for a good wage - that is why he'd sign. If he plays well enough bigger clubs will come in for him.

I'm not surprised that Wolves have gone all out to extend his contract. They've had to cut their wage bill for the 1st division and have let high earners go. They will try to get promotion with a cheaper squad and, if successful, look to get better players in. Having Leigh on a 2 year contract means if they don't want him next season they can sell him on. If he does well that could be to a better team and even bigger wages. Anyway, good luck Leigh and thanks for the memories.

Fair play to him, personally I never thought he'd be back once Wolves took that extra year option after the season he had for us, he's clearly a cut above playing SPL football. Granted he's in League 1 currently but can see him playing Premier League within the next 2 years. Cheers for the goals Leigh and good luck down south :aok:

Disappointing news, but good luck to Griffiths. He'll score for fun in Division One and help Wolves get back to the Championship where he will have the chance to show what he can do at that level.

Apparently he's getting 5k a week 20k signing on 1k appearance and 10k for every 10 goals
My biggest disappointment in all this is if Griffiths was so desperate to come back, why didn't he just hand in a transfer request when Wolves triggered the one year option. He's obviously taken well to Jackett's mind set and they've got a new regime in at Wolves, so he's looking at things differently, good luck to him, TBH I wasn't taken by this he's coming back nonsense, always thought his goalscoring last season would be too much for us to keep hold.
He will be back in January. Watch this space.

Nice to see our other striker from last year on the scoresheet tonight. Doyle got the opener at Elland Road, a fairly straight forward header, but Leeds went on to win 2-1.

I'm amazed that Wolves have offered him this 2 yr deal.
Watched him last night and he was very quiet, a few poor touches but he might just need a few games under his belt to settle down.
He was outstanding for us but I really think he will struggle down there. It's a much higher standard and he's going to up against much stronger, physical better quality players than up here.
The Wolves fans don't have the relationship with him that we do so if he goes a few games without a goal he'll be out the 1st team and may struggle to ever get back in it.
Can't blame him for signing for the money but he had a chance to become a legend at ER and a Scotland regular.
No doubt he'll be back at some point like; Murray, O'Connor, Riordan or Sproule but probably as a retirement fund booster on his way to the Footballers Scrap Heap.

If that was the Wolves top team he'll not be scoring many goals. As usual they played as if Steve Bull was still centre forward and battered in high balls.Morecambe from the division below looked a much better team.
On Talksport tonight saying Wolves have almost no senior players left, the 3-4 they have are training with the kids until clubs can be found for them, slashing the wage bill obviously. Kenny Jackett was brought into the club because he is great with the younger players and basically that's all they've got left, I think it's going to be a long season for Griffiths and personally think he'll regret signing that extension, a bunch of youngsters in that league is gonna be really tough.

Stealing, eh? Where did you get that from?
You're right about not wanting to show face round Edinburgh anymore. It's full of jumped up wee yam pricks in pretendy authoritative positions, whose main cheap thrill in their inconsequential lives is being a perpetual irritant to Hibs players, as Deeks also discovered. They're the urban equivalent of an infestation of scabies.
For his sake, I'm glad lg has gone; until Edinburgh is rid of the root cause of the scabies, ie homfc, the best place to succeed for players like him is away from here.
