You can just picture all the conspiracy theorists deep in thought tonight trying desperately to find a vaguely plausible way to build this latest piece of news into their complex theories of intrigue and double-dealing.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

:greengrin

Would have thought it was obvious, duh.

Given that all those tapes over the years of Osama claiming this and that were clearly fake, since he was already dead or lugging an oxygen canister about, this latest pronouncement is another fake job engineered by the CIA to make us all think that Al Qaida have accepted he's deid.

Major clashes have taken place in London's Grosvenor Square between the EDL and followers of Bin Laden, who were staging a mock funeral for him.

Given that al-Qaeda is a banned terrorist organisation in the UK and Bin Laden was its leader, why weren't these people arrested under the terrorism act?

It's absolutely disgraceful that they were allowed to stage such an event in this country.

I agree with your disgust at what happened in London but the Terrorism Act doesn't cover demonstrations or glorification of groups etc:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorism_Act_2006

I'd imagine they're probably protected by the Freedom of Speech law sadly.

However, when you see the placards, hear the chants and see the provocative nature and aggressive posturing (from both sides, it has to be said - the EDL are hardly peaceful defenders), it's hard not to get wound up.

It's an example where I'd quite happily turn a blind eye to the police "unofficially" taking action.

That is hilarious. The EDL meets Bin Laden fans over mock Bin Laden funeral. Very close to the ultimate definition of surreal.

The very situation dirty bombs were invented for. :greengrin

I would say that some of the things that the Jihadists who turned up at this event are reported to have chanted would be banned under section 1 of the Act, i.e. "encouragement of terrorism".

I am very much in support of the right to freedom of speech but when you're coming out in support of a leader who was in charge of a terrorist organisation, which is proscribed in this country, I don't believe that should be classed as exercising your right to freedom of speech.

Well, naturally .... that was the first one I thought of.

I was looking for something a bit more creative though. I guess that may take more time to emerge.

bin Laden is alive and well and getting the gimp treatment in a New Hampshire cellar in between waterboarding sessions. The photos will eventually be leaked after the Yanks have finnished playing with him.

The Americans to pull 10,000 troops out of Afghanistan, before the end of the year.

Did any of you read about the guy who is starting a search for the body using hitech sonar equipment etc because no official photos were released?

Funny when i suggested troop withdrawls would be announced within a year of Bin Ladens death i was shot down (no pun intended) by the majority on here.

It couldn't possibly be the case that i was right and we will see another 'mission accomplished' statement sometime soon.

He'll not find anything. The body was scooped up by a US submarine.

They've / we've lost. Its the great unspoken truth but the americans hate to be losers hence you wont see it discussed much in the Western media. The truth is after 10 years and TRILLIONS of dollars, this geographically unconquerable country has proved itself unconquerable again. A waste of lives hopefully nearly at an end.

It may take a long time for the US to withdraw all its troops. Depends on how talks with the Taliban go. What a waste of life and less importantly, money.

Meanwhile Saudi Arabia, the country whose citizens launched the attack on the Twin Towers etc. goes unpunished.

Security officials in US say's team's mission was kill Bin Laden NOT capture him.

Source Skynews

Quite an interesting documentary on the raid (interviews with Obama and others) during which it occurred that if they hadn't killed Osama and had instead put him on trial there would have been dozens of Americans taken hostage in order to have him freed.

:agree: That's almost certainly what would have happened.

Whilst I've no doubts that al-Qaeda will continue to target the USA and their allies, both at home and their interests abroad, in response to the killing of Bin Laden, taking him out was undoubtedly the only decision that they could have come to, once they had located him.

Apart from anything else, there is no way that Osama Bin Laden could, realistically, have stood trial in any nation in the world.

Wouldnt be shocked if those idiots tried to bomb something tomorrow as a way of saying yip you got bin laden but we still have a huge following and we will still attempt to kill

Al Qaeda upset at Ahmadinejad for 9/11 conspiracy theories (would be funny if not so tragic)

From Al Arabiya: (http://english.alarabiya.net/articles/2011/09/28/169158.html)

A statement by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in which he questioned the role of al-Qaeda in the September 11 attacks on the U.S. provoked the terrorist organization into issuing a statement in response asking the Iranian president to stop promoting conspiracy theories.

In a speech to the U.N. General Assembly, Ahmadinejad argued that al-Qaeda claiming responsibility for the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon was a bluff, aimed at manipulating people’s emotions. He also stressed that the attacks were pre-planned by the United States as a pretext to invade Afghanistan and Iraq.

In response, al-Qaeda issued a statement calling upon Ahmadinejad to stop making assumptions about 9/11 that are contrary to what really happened and to refrain from making a statement the group described as “ridiculous,” according to a report published on the ABC News website.

“Why would Iran ascribe to such a ridiculous belief that stands in the face of all logic and evidence?” the statement read.

According to the statement, which was published in al-Qaeda’s English-language magazine, Inspire, Ahmadinejad views al-Qaeda as Iran’s rival because the group has managed to gain the respect of Muslims for standing up to imperialism and the United States.

“Al-Qaeda succeeded in what Iran couldn’t. Therefore it was necessary for the Iranians to discredit 9/11, and what better way to do so than conspiracy theories.”

What a nice pairing these two doves of peace make.

Blimey.

Sad thing is that 9-11 Truthers will probably look on this as vindication of their ludicrous claims. You half expect Iran to start claiming it was them who supplied Thermite to the CIA through Oliver North and Noriega as the basis of a deal to reclaim some of the border territory with Iraq if Saddam was got rid of. Or something.
