Turned the tv over for the football when he lost the 3rd set, woke up this morning thinking he'd lost assuming his body had just had enough.

Once again he found something from the depths of despair to win again, i should have had more faith in him.

I really thought he was done after losing that third set - a lesser player would have crumbled under such circumstances.

    Says a lot for him.

He's not gonna go much further though is he?

    Retirement must be looming.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, vodka in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!"

He's just beat a top 30 player in the world in a major, some professionals that is as best as it gets in their career. Retirement looms for everyone it's personal choice when you take it. If he's still making millions and beating top players now and then and enjoying himself he'll go on. If the pain goes up and he no longer enjoys it he'll give up like everyone does eventually

I doubt he'll win another Grand Slam and at 34 he's certainly coming towards the end of his career but whilst Nikoloz Basilashvili won't be the most recognisable name in tennis, he was the 24th seed and Murray beat him fairly comfortably.

He now plays a qualifier in round two which you would think he'll win and then he's into the last 32.

If he could make at least the quarter finals I'd say that would be a good tournament all things considered.

He appears to just enjoy competing and playing tennis, I think he could be around for 2 or 3 more years yet.

Great win for Venus Williams at 41 years old.

Lovely stuff from Federer to take the 1st set 6-4 .

  9. #68
Federer in trouble two sets to one down v Adrian Mannarino.

  10. #69
Federer wins the 4th set and Mannarino now injured so looks like Federer will win from here.

  11. #70
    Mannarino retires, Federer through.

Serena's out, ankle injury. What a pity.

Murray will play Oscar Otte in round two tomorrow after he eventually saw off Arthur Rinderknech 13-12 in the final set.

Players slipping and sliding all over the place. Definitely something wrong.

The number of falls so far is a joke, another two today for Nick Kyrgios and also John Isner which looked nasty - thankfully both able to carry on.

Murray takes an early break first set - 3-2.

    First set Murray - 6-3

  19. #78
    Murray struggling now.

Déjà vu from the other night, lost 4 games in a row from 3-1 up to 5-3 down.

    Looks like one set all.

Otte takes the second set 6-4, Murray threw that away.

It's as if Otte just decided to start playing. He was awful before then.

Pain in the arse trying to record it on the BBC. At least on Sky. They move channels but then BBC1 didn’t have it on the schedule in advance to switch to. Anyway, caught up now.

    Body language is not good.

  25. #84
Otte breaks to go 4-3 up.

I think he'll go on to win now, Murray's looking very negative.

  26. #85
    Third set Otte, 6-4.

    Murray's in trouble.

  27. #86
Nasty fall there for Murray, thankfully looks ok.

  28. #87
Going to be another late finish for Murray if he's going to get through this one.

People applauding double faults is my biggest tennis pet peeve.

I think he can do this, he doesn't look to be in too much pain, just not match fit....

    Roof closing now.
