Newall, Doyle-Hayes and Campbell is bottom 6/Championship midfield. We are going to struggle until that is sorted.
Need the near perma-injured Magennis to get fit.
And still having to rely on McGregor is a disgrace.

Disagree - JDH and Newell are very decent players.
Conceding pathetic goals and not taking our chances is killing us.

Unfortunately other than Magennis our other options in the middle aren't great and with 73 games coming up in the next month I do worry a bit.

JDH and Newell played well tonight, Campbell was very quiet.
It's not the centre midfielders fault that the centre backs struggled with a dodgy cross and that nisbet couldn't finish any of his three clear cut chances.

What can we do to fix it now?
You swore blind on here Gogic was the fix for all our midfield problems 18 months ago. He cant get near the team ahead of those guys. Newall and Doyle Hayes are quality players.

There was nothing wrong with that midfield on Sunday.
It’s a bloody attitude problem and a possibly a managerial problem as well.
We said it after the semi , Rangers let you play and it suited us on Sunday. Expecting the same formation to do the same tonight is wishful thinking.
This game was all about grafting away on a driech winters night and grinding out a result and too many of our squad are just not up for that.

Gogic done well for us last season, this season he’s been poor. If he can’t produce now then we need to move him on.

Nisbets three clear cut chances, Hanlon off the post, Boyle's volley, and the penalty shout on Hanlon could all easily have led to goals on another night.

We never lost today because a lack of grafters or because it’s cold and winter.
We dominated the first half and missed 3 decent chances - Nisbet x 2 and Hanlon. Second half Nisbet missed another couple of chances.
We concede a shocking, absolute nothing of a goal and lost our head after that.
It was a lot of things but it’s not because they’re not grafters

Newell is a terrific player imo. A massive upgrade on Dylsn. JDH is a very good player also. Those two with MacGennis could be awesome with a strong defence and attack.

The lack of options in the squad is the real problem, Ross has no one to rotate the squad with and the players he does have he obviously doesn't trust. We need at least anothe 4-5 signings in January, Mueller is an attacker and Tait is still young and untried.

I seen Campbell get plaudits after the game on Sunday but personally didn’t see him do much. He chased & hurried the rangers midfield but in a game like tonight against “inferior” opposition I’m not quite sure the lad has the quality we require
He’s obviously still quite raw though so every chance he will improve but when you’re needing points on the board it’s a risk having to throw him inLast edited by Stuart93; 24-11-2021 at 10:03 PM.

Boyle aside, our whole team is championship at best. Boyle will be sold in January and not replaced.
were in a bad way.

Big different being the advanced midfielder in a game against lesser opposition or in a game we should win. Similar to Magennis he’s not a Scot Allan type who will thread balls behind defenders.
But he’s good at running in behind, looking after the ball and not giving the opposition a second.
I actually thought he done well again tonight without standing out. He looked after the ball really well and had a couple of nice touches and passes. There was one in the second half over next to Cadden where he skinned the boy and played a nice reverse pass.
Contrary to Allan who couldn’t get the ball under control when he came on and almost lost a goal.
I 100% think it’s a position we need to strengthen though. Getting McGrath in the summer would have been fantastic business.

He won’t be sold in January imo & it would be hard to blame us for not replacing him because he’s that good a player

Different game tonight. I though Allan should have been on earlier (at least) instead of a reactive sub when we were chasing the game.

Our problem was primarily the forward line not taking chances. Campbell was pushed up higher in the second half and started to influence more, drawing a few fouls in particular. Allan should have come on for one of our more defensive mids, not the one trying to support the striker.
