    Best decade of film?

Been watching the Movies series on Sky got me thinking - what's your favourite decade for movies.

I'd probably go with the seventies. Godfather 1 and 2, Jaws, Star Wars, Alien, cuckoo's Nest...

There are strong arguments for every decade but I would have to agree. We could go on all night listing great films from the seventies.

If it were a single year I would be tempted to go for 1973 or maybe 1974, but weighing it all up I can’t see beyond 1980 as the best year of cinematic releases.
There's only one thing better than a Hibs calendar and that's two Hibs calendars

The 1940s. Golden Age of Hollywood, Bogart and Bacall, Casablanca, Film Noir, Cagney and thegangster genre,Citizen Kane all of that. Wizard of Oz referencing WW2. Plus for the hipsters, Renoir in French cinema and Rossellini in Italian cinema.

Add Serpico & A Bridge Too Far to the 70s.

I think it probably comes down to actor preference, the 60s Steve McQueen, Paul Newman etc, 70s De Niro & Pacino etc.

I’d not make a case for the 80s being the best decade but it’s in with a shout of being my favourite. I like all the John Hughes type of comedies. Planes Tranes & Automobiles, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Uncle Buck, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels etc

I would say late 60s to late 70s rather than an arbitrary decade. If it has to be a decade then the 70s.
