Edinburgh airport liquid limit to increase from 100ml to two litres...

Now THIS is good news :)

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyndvdvd39o

Edinburgh Airport has lifted the 100ml rule for liquids being carried in hand luggage.

It will now be possible to take containers of up to two litres through security, and they will not need to be removed from bags.

The change comes after an extra two lanes and eight scanners costing £24m were installed at the international hub.

Edinburgh Airport is the first airport in Scotland to lift the rule.

There will be no limit on the number of containers that passengers can carry in their hand luggage, but metal water bottles will need to be emptied beforehand.

Items such as bottles of wine or large water bottles are also now allowable.

Passengers using the airport are also be able to keep large electricals, such as iPads, tablets and laptops, in their hand luggage.

Gordon Dewar, chief executive of Edinburgh Airport, said it would allow passengers to move through security more easily than they currently do.

But he said passengers should check security rules at their return destination as other airports may not have moved away from the 100ml limit.

"A whole generation of travellers have only known the 100ml rule to be the case, so it really is a momentous day as we become the first airport in Scotland to lift the rule since it was introduced in 2006," he said.

"The change allows more flexibility for passengers to take liquids through security, all while maintaining and improving our high safety levels through the use of 3D technology."
"You opened the box....and your soul belongs to me...."

This will be a pain until it's standardised – if you're travelling with only hand luggage then in many cases you'd be able to take stuff with you that you can't bring back

At least you won't have to chuck bottles of water and cans of juice etc away on the way out.

TFFT. We’ve been through Manchester airport in the last week, and unlike others (Ed and Bristol in my recent experience) they did not have pre security places to empty your water bottles, so I had to humph them back to the toilets.

That’s great. So this is already in place now? Going away on Wednesday so it’s handy to know for sure.

Ipads and laptops were always ok to take in hand luggage. In fact, its the only place they CAN go, they cant go in the hold because of the risk of fires from lithium batteries going undetected, apparently.

I think what it means is that you don't have to take them out and put them through the scanner separately

Its exactly that. That bit of it has been in place for a while now. The 2 litres thing is brilliant. The government must have changed their mind on this again. The 100ml thing was meant to be scrapped with the introduction of the new scanners but for some reason the government did a U-turn last year (I think) and decided to keep the 100ml limit.

Two litre bottle of Diet Coke filled half and half with voddy in the hand luggage just like back in the day

Oh! From here we’re off to sunny Spain ….Viva Espana

    Sorted

Security has been the best part of Edinburgh Airport for a while now.

Last 3 or 4 times I've flown from there it has been leave electrics and liquids in the bag. Not sure how much of a game changer the 2ltr thing is at the moment though. If I'm travelling with work it's usually hand luggage only so until it becomes standardised across Europe it's probably not worth the risk of having to leave something elsewhere.

Handy for taking a bottle of water or whatever through in the meantime right enough.

I guess that advantage will be that quite often a full size shampoo/shower gel/shave gel/sun tan lotion is cheaper than the travel sized ones. Sometimes if we are hand luggage only we will fill wee bottles but it can be a hassle and sometimes we will either buy a full sized one in the airport or our destination (both can be more expensive than at home but cheaper than the travel sized ones) and just leave what we don't use. You could buy the cheaper stuff at home now and leave it (or bring back if the airport allows it).

Agreed that security is the best bit about Edinburgh Airport. You don't even need to take your watch off now either BTW. I went to take it off last time and the woman saw me and said I could keep it on.

I picked up my daughter from the airport and the barriers at the exit were up. Not sure what that was all about.

Probably broken AGAIN! I think I've only paid a handful of times due to the card reader not working and having to hit the wee intercom 😁

I was actually honest and pressed the button. Gruff voice on the other side said “barriers up.” I could obviously see that so just drove on after that helpful discussion 😄

    Thanks

Still wary of trying it, I can’t remember air travel without this rule
