    Team for Midtjylland game

If the game against Midtjylland was tomorrow, who would you select in your team? Obviously, you can only pick from those currently employed by Hibernian FC, mindful that we are away from home for the first game.

    I'd go for:

Smith (but no preference at the moment)

    Iredale
    Rocky
    Miller

    Obita (LWB)
    Levitt
    Campbell
    Manneh
    Mulligan (RWB)

    Bowie
    Boyle

Maybe controversial not picking either of the Caddens, but I think we'll go more defensive in the away game. For that reason, Campbell ahead of Hoilett.

Nicky & Chris Cadden, along with Hoilett will be our initial subs during the game, with O'Hora and big Marv as back-up defenders and Youan and one of the young strikers as back-up forwards.

IMO, central midfield and the forward positions look the obvious areas to improve.

EDIT: Missed McGrath from the starting line-up. I'm sure he'll be involved.

I can't see that Manneh has shown anything to be given a starting place and given we have a number of centre mids think it unlikely. Take the point on the Caddens. Miller has to play for his defensive physicsallity and athleticism

Only saw highlights but I suspect Salinger is no 1

Opinions eh - thought he did nothing in the half he was on. He plays it at near walking pace too. Haven't seen anything from him yet personally but that isn't that surprising as he hasn't played much and definitely not saying he isn't good enough, just feels his Hibs career hasn't got going yet. Would need to see something tangible from him before I'd consider him a starter. Mulligan played that half and had a big impact. As did Miller, Bowie and probably seen more hustle from Jiminez.
I'm just waiting for Manneh to bring his quality to the table, I've no doubt it's there

What are your thoughts on Levitt’s performance yesterday?

I was thinking I was missing someone in the OP. Now realise it was Jamie McGrath. He'll be involved I'm sure.

Over there I think we’ll go

    ………………...Salinger…….

    ………O’Hora Rocky Iredale

    Miller …..Mulligan …Levitt …..Cadden

    …….…………Campbell…….

    …………….Bowie…….Boyle

Miller right wing back for physicality/aerial ability from set pieces and more defensive minded

    Nicky Cadden for his delivery

    Campbell for his energy

Mumligan central based on SDG playing him yesterday.

Based on what we have, Mulligan needs to start centrally IMO.

I could see merit in playing Miller RWB instead of Cadden.

Hoilett or McGrath have to play ahead of Campbell for me. He might provide a goal threat but number one priority needs to be to keep the ball and the other two are much more comfortable on it. I felt we suffered for bringing Campbell in to the post split away games when Hoilett was playing well. McGrath or Hoilett give a bit more flexibility to play tweak shape during the game as well.

Boyle obviously plays but there is a decision between Bowie and Youan to be made. Youan’s pace on the break could be important in the away leg.

Big thing for me, is that I hope we remember we need to play when picking the team. Can’t just get drawn in to playing it long, playing for set pieces and generally giving them the ball back.

Yeah we haven't paid him more money than Aberdeen were giving him for him to miss out on huge games to Josh Campbell that's for sure.

I think Bowie’s ability to hold the ball up will be crucial. Thought we saw yesterday the difference he made in that respect

Youan can try be too fancy or take too many inconsistent touches at times which makes it difficult for us to get out

    Sallinger

    Miller
    Rocky
    Iredale

    C. Cadden
    Mulligan
    Levitt
    N.Cadden

    McGrath

    Boyle
    Bowie

Mulligan in midfield on the basis that we don’t sign Triantis or a replacement in time, if we do I’d move him to wing back over Chris Cadden.

  16. #15
    Certainly wouldn't be starting Campbell.

McGrath and Hoilett are both far better players. Boyle and Bowie will be up top. Pace and physicality. I wouldn't be starting Chris Cadden either as he's not a good enough defender. Either move Miller out to right wing back or Mulligan there.

Have we paid him more money or simply given him an extra year ? Seen it suggested on Kickback that we offered him a lot more money though I thought it was a 4 year deal as a supposed to a 3 year deal that sealed it .

Agree with this - this team would bring back a score draw to Easter Road. Then our new striker, whoever we sign, will bag a late winner at ER, celebrating it with an epic knee slide in front of the Pat Stanton Stand..

I thought he done well. Excellent ball out to Obita to beat the press for Boyle's goal. Composed and tidy. Went long on occasion and one ball put Youan in but he ended up slipping. Looks like he is continuing his good form from end of last season though no doubt operates better with the balance of Triantis or similar type that I thought we were missing yesterday. Game passed Campbell by - it was Ajax after all though so not a great criticism

Not really a Levitt tbf and think he’s a bit of a luxury player in saying that his pass to Obita was very good . I think your right in he needs a player like Triantis with him to do the graft . I wouldn’t say Campbell was brilliant yesterday though I think he put a good shift in ,did noticed he burst a gut to get into the box on Boyles goal that he nearly got which Boyle acknowledged, also went back to help Cadden a couple who was left to exposed against the boy Godts . Early days for all the players and as you say it was Ajax we played.

Even though O'Hora has his critics I have a wee bit more faith in him defensively under pressure in a European away tie over Miller.

Decent options on the bench with Youan, C Cadden, Obita and Campbell. However, I am a bit concerned our squad depth is a bit light if we are serious about trying to get through a couple of rounds in Europe. Think most of us would say we are a bit undercooked. Would feel a whole lot better if Triantis was in and a couple more options up front.

I’d go likewise but McGrath or Hoilett instead of Campbell. Need to have players comfortable on the ball who
    can keep possession.

For me Campbell isn’t strong on either of them.

Gets caught in possession too often due to this. He dives in unnecessarily in defensive areas giving away daft fouls.

Agree he works his socks off but really think we will need to try our best to keep the ball off them.

Would love a starting midfield 3 of Triantis, Levitt and McGrath/Hoilett

Campbell can’t start in a game when we have to try to hold onto the ball as long as possible. Could come on upfront with 25 to go as our strikers tire with the amount of pressing they will need to do.

I think there’s possibly a flip side to that regarding Campbell in a game that we need to hold onto the ball in that’s possibly a game were we don’t have a lot of possession in and that’s were Campbells energy and work rate can be useful IMO .

    For the first leg;

    Smith

    Miller
    Rocky
    Iredale

    Cadden C
    Mulligan
    Levitt
    Manneh
    Obita

    Boyle
    Bowie.

Gives us a bench which includes Salinger, O'Hora, N Cadden, Campbell, McGrath, Hoilett and Youan.

This is pretty close to my "in the moment" selection.

A bit harsh to drop Smith but Salinger showed better in the friendly vs Ajax. Other than that I would not argue with any of your lineup. Mulligan looks well equipped to fill the "Triantis shaped hole" and Boyle + Bowie looks like our most potent pairing up front.
