For me, I’d say he would be stupid not to try and see what the premier league team think of him. But they have spent £45m on 2 defensive midfielders already and I’m sure we’ll see a decision after a week maybe?
I think Sunderland have already given their answer to him by spending that amount on two midfielders. He won’t be anywhere near playing in the Premier League . I do think it’s more in the agent / players interests to wait as long as possible to see if anything else comes up but this doesn’t suit us at all with our first competitive only something like a matter of weeks away . Probably giving him a week max is about the limit we can give him before we look elsewhere in fairness.

I suspect that is what will happen. As a young player with ambitions to progress who has impressed in his season and a bit at Hibs, he will likely be thinking he has done enough with us to now try and step a rung up the ladder. You've got to keep testing yourself - as frequently as possible - until you reach your ceiling. I doubt very much he will think that Hibs is his ceiling.

    Seconded.
Och there’s no football to talk about and it’s the silly season. No harm in discussing just about anything remotely connected to football just to get over the summer. It’ll brighten up in a couple of weeks when proper football is being played again

    Rangers being busy again

UPDATE: Rangers are close to agreeing a loan deal for Wolves centre-back Nasser Djiga.

It’s understood any deal would be straight season-long loan.

#RFC hope to have the Burkina Faso international over for a medical in the coming days.

Not convinced at all by many of their signings tbh. I’ll be shocked if Martin is still in a job there come this time next year.

Exactly. And I don’t know much about the Tanzanian league, but would be surprised if multi million fees are common there.

I was getting similar vibes to when Martin O'Neill first went to Celtic. I don't remember being that impressed with some of the names early on. Alan Thompson?

Martin is going for players he knows, playing at levels familiar to him. Similar to O'Neill he could be making astute signings that will form the basis of a vary good team.

Or, preferably, you are right, they all turn out to be humpty, and he gets hus jotters having filled the team with duds.

They signed their last manager using said analytics model.

Tbh, Im amazed at the blind faith their support are putting into this analytics. Its head in the sand. "If james town says it then it must be a cert" Oblivious to the fact they are signing players totally unproven at any where near the kevel theyd need to be. Mismatched to a manager that knows once style of football and was chosen cos they shat the bed and caved to the fans. Im glad Shankland is staying. Hes done as a player, on a bundle that will piss off the squad. First sniff of his stinkin attitude and theyll turn on him like a pack a rabid baboons. I predict another horrorshow season for them and im totally here for it!
The thing with analytics is that what you get out is based on what you put in. It’s piss easy to stick a couple of filters on and look for 20+ goal a season strikers, but it takes a lot more understanding and nuance to look at the way they play and how they’ll fit into the team you’re moulding etc.

Arguably the most important part of analytics is what you put in and that’s the hard part for a recruitment team, working out how everything pieces together. The analytics then goes and does what is largely speaking the easy bit.

What are they going to learn about him in a week of pre-season? I’d imagine the first week will mostly be testing and fitness work.

If he has been told he’ll get a chance to impress throughout the pre-season i would agree but there’s nothing significant he can do to impress them in the first week imo.

If I was him I’d be targeting a loan to a decent English Championship club.
Exactly. He's spent a whole season impressing at Hibs and got himself onto the full Australian national team radar, how can that be trumped by a decent bleep test and doing well in a 20 minute 5 a side game at the whippet training centre or wherever it is Sunderland train.

When you look at what Sunderland have spent on players in his position in the last few weeks you have to admire Nectar's self confidence if he thinks he can impress enough in a couple of weeks pre season to consign both of them to the bench. Which is why I agree with you that he will either end up on loan at a Championship club or a permanent transfer to one of them ..... notwithstanding possible interest from St Pauli, which should be a no brainer for any player in his position if you ask me.

What worries me is that if the, what in my opinion is a 10% to 20% chance, he ends up back here pans out what we will have is a million pound player under pressure to replicate a stellar season while struggling to deal with the disappointment that he was rejected by an EPL also ran and couldn't fashion a move to the land of the giants that constitutes the EFL Championship.

That lad from Tunisia is starting to sound quite attractive.

Yeah, know what you mean. I was being a bit flippant.

Whether it's analytics or as you said our approach, it seems a whole raft of random unknown players joining.
    I totally agree mate.

It’s a big risk to be honest. Hopefully a huge failure.

From a brief check looks a pretty good talent played 27 times last season at 19 years old.

Triantis is entitled to take his full summer break given he is still a Sunderland player.

Kind of feel Gray's comment about 'waiting around' isn't going to cut much ice with Sunderland given they have bigger fish to fry in spending £15m+ on other midfielders.

None of us know what's going on, but I presume we have had a bid accepted but it's up to Triantis and his agent to decide their next move. I expect our relationship is good with both of them given the success Triantis had with us last season.

Hibs focus is on the vital European ties and ultimately getting to the league phase, so would want him or an alternative in and up to speed by then so you would expect a decision will be made by the beginning of next week.

Triantis is a fit lad, but he will be a week or two behind others in our squad which is not ideal.

It seems from Hibs that the situation has dragged on a wee bit, given Gray's comments. But clarity is needed on this very soon.

I'm expecting we'll some new recruits named by Monday. I don't think we'll wait much beyond the weekend for Triantis to make up his mind.

You would think SDG's comments are more directed to the player rather than the club.

I think Gray was just doing some straight talking. He gets asked the question. He laid out the situation pretty much as it is. No cryptic messages or reading between the lines. We want the player. Are in for him. We can’t wait forever. We've done our homework on our next move.

I'm thinking Huns as well if I'm honest. New manager, owners, good signings, buzz about the place.

Everything about Celtic the last few months was flat.

    I agree.

Think this is Rodgers last season of his contract too and he suggested at the time he would stay for the length of his contract. If it comes out he’s leaving mid way through the year could see it affecting them.

I think Rangers could surprise people, also think they’ll get knocked out of Europe early which will help them in the league.

Martin will have them playing attacking football, it's the defending bit he forgot about at Southampton, after saying that half decent defending is all you need up here, score 3-4 goals a game and you'll win the league.

Last season Celtic just over 3 goals per game and Rangers 2.
