Ha Ha ! One time in Leeds I was lost in a one way system once again I could see the Hotel but no luck I stopped a passer by who said ‘ look at the road man look at the road ‘ sure enough there was a ‘Hotel left turn’ sign on the road into an underground car park that I kept missing and didn’t appear on my Sat Nav

Local knowledge goes for a lot

Some road systems are crazy, I went to Manchester for work about 15 years ago, pre satnav days. To get to the hotel, I had to drive past it on the other side of the road, then drive an exaggerated ‘figure of 8’ type journey in order to get to the carpark behind it, because of the road system in that part of the city. Mental 😂

    So here is the thing

The wife had a flat battery last night in Dunfermline ( 3/7)

She phoned the AA and they refused to come because the car wasn’t Road taxed

The car was taxed for one year on 1/7 at the Post Office but it hadn’t registered yet on the DVLA system sometimes it takes a few days to register

They asked to see the receipt as proof the car was taxed but that of course was back home in Edinburgh

We tried to get the laddie to find the receipt and email it to them but no luck finding it

Long story short we left the car found the receipt and they sent their man out to boost the battery

The car was outside the oldest laddies house and he had the keys

At first they asked us to go back and stand beside the car …no !

So why will they not come to a breakdown if they think a car isn’t taxed ??

The car is not road legal if not taxed so why would they attend a ‘breakdown’ of a car that can’t be driven…would be my thoughts.

Yeah I think that’s the exact reason, makes sense but I can see how frustrating it must be when you know the car is actually legal.

I might be wrong about this but is there not a grace period after the road tax runs out, possibly 14 days, so the AA should still have responded.

Maybe in this digital age where everything is immediate that no longer applies.
There is no such thing as too much yarn, just not enough time.

Checked the DVLA website last night and it still hadn’t updated but clicked over this morning

Someone suggested doing it online going forward as that seems to be immediate?

Reminds me of driving to Alicante Golf Club. We tried to find the entrance to the course from a variety of directions but only got to within 100 yards of it. I don’t know how many times we frustratedly circumnavigated the course but we ended up over half an hour late for our tee time. The guy in the club shop just laughed and said most visitors experienced the same problem and we would get started no problem.
We had the same thing happen to us at Estapona golf course, could see the entrance but couldnt get anywhere near it, missed our tee time as had to dump the car and walk.

They were good though, and slotted us in later.

I've been VED'ing (questionable adjective) my cars online for years now, straightforward and simple (they also do an online insurance check as you need valid insurance to tax a car).
