How do you think posh people should behave?
You were quick to point out your disdain for their bringing attention to the plight of climate change.
What should posh people actually do?

There's a G K Chesteron quote which I like (just had to look it up to check who to attribute it to!): "The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly, the rich have always objected to being governed at all. Aristocrats were always anarchists."
I wasn't expressing disdain for the Just Stop Oil activists believing in their cause. I just think that by and large whatever you choose to to in life is cushioned more by being wealthy. And I also thought that many of their tactics were plain daft.

The regime is being threatened so I would think them capable of acting in ways that may not be rational.

I know old news but completely relevant to this thread. UN Humanitarian official on Gaza situation. UK government lack of comment or action around this is completely shameful.

When I was younger it was "bloody students" or "filthy layabout hippies", without engaging with the debate itself. I sometimes think that there's a bit of jealousy that some people have the means, the energy, the time and the money to engage in agitation and direct action for causes that a lot of the rest of us would love to be alongside..... but just can't. And it's that envy that drives some of us to go for the person, rather than the ball.
And that's the case for whatever cause is being aired IMO.Last edited by CropleyWasGod; 23-06-2025 at 11:19 AM.

Cooper confirms poshos to be proscribed as terrorist group 😉
On the lunchtime news there was actually an angry motorist shouting 'get back to university!' at the demonstrators so maybe the 'bloody students' attitude you mention still holds sway.

Whatever else you might think of the Israelis, their near total infiltration of the Iranian regime is impressive. Any further and they’d be making the decisions themselves.

The OSINT I follow on X, which tends to be very accurate, just posted
“Iran has just launched several ballistic missiles at U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar”
Not a good escalation :(
Edit: Now also reporting Missile launches against a US base in Iraq, and BBC also reporting explosions over Doha.Last edited by Paul1642; 23-06-2025 at 04:45 PM.

Iran agree not to build nuclear weapons (and mean it).
Iranian regime get to remain in power rather than their inevitable downfall if this continues, and US succeed in Iran not gaining nuclear weapons (we all win from this) without become involved in another war.
Bonus points if the Iranian regime are peaceful removed internally.

It’s the first time leaders of the US and North Korea have met https://t.co/8OX2UblAwL https://t.co/SCzJ9VGdze" / X

Mind you going for a ride in a plane with the orange jabba has a whole different meaning.
No wonder the wee guy travels everywhere by train.
