We finished third after wasting almost half a season.

Absolutely no reason we can’t do so again, finishing much closer to Rangers.

There’s unlikely to be many changes to our squad so it’s really just a matter of keeping doing what we’ve been doing.

It’s up to hearts or Aberdeen to try and close the gap on us this year.

I presume you are joking. Domestic trophies are trinkets. If we want the club to grow then you've got it the wrong way round.

The Scottish Cup win did more to grow attendance than any top 4 finish.

You sound like Spurs binning their most successful manager for a generation.

To coin a phrase, the game has gone.

I'd take that. No doubt the smug shower in red will be crowing about their group stage euro place from the away end. Perfect opportunity to shut them up.

We played them twice at ER before the split season just gone so I thought that would be due to be reversed next season.

If Rocky and Triantis were to sign and also with the forgotten man Joe Newell hopefully back well before Christmas I would expect another 3rd place finish minimum.

Hopefully we can bag 3rd again, but it will be tough.

Looking back through recent seasons, the last team to finish 3rd in consecutive seasons was actually the Huns through 16-17 and 17-18, with the Sheep finishing twice those seasons.

So, it goes without saying that to finish 3rd back to back won't be easy - but I've got faith in Gray to give us a good chance of doing that.

I think my realistic expectations would be to finish in a European place again, and a Hampden visit or two.

Let’s be honest. Getting 3rd last year was easier than previous years due to the form of the Sheep and Hearts. I think Top 4 and a visit to Hampden would qualify as a success.

It was a low points total for third place last season but we were also dreadful for the best part of half a season. I’m looking for us to improve this season which I think we’re well placed to do with some sensible signings. Whether we get third or not I don’t know but I’d say I’m more expectant than hopeful we will do well this year. I just feel like we have a good platform, the right people and the right backing as it stands.

Excited about next season. It’s very difficult to gauge until we have secured 3-4 signing.

If we keep/get Rocky, Triantis, Hoilett and sign two strikers (or Youan is rejuvenated so only one needed) then I think we are in a good position. Porto signing would be cherry on top in defence.

I would like a real surprise signing, someone that could make us get off our seats or a bit of a maverick. Jason Cummings would be a great addition as one of the strikers we need (but won’t happen). I think it’s important to freshen up in the main window. But we are likely to go into the new season with broadly the same 80% first team as last season. We have a great spirit, connection with players, manager and fans. We should be quietly confident we can be 3rd or 4th. Hopefully we are luckier in cup draws than last season. We should on paper be odds on for semis and maybe final. That’s where we are.

I still think Aberdeen will be bang average as they got lucky in cup final but really had a crap season.

Hearts? I think they will be tougher to beat, more physical but terrible to watch and I think the scatter gun almost panic like transfer strategy they have will mean McInnes will have an average season eg 5th or 6th. The mutants are so excited “because he talks so well”.

    - Top 5 in league
    - Respectable derby record
    - At least 1 trip to Hampden

  16. #105
Hope - win a cup, group stage Europe and 3rd again.

Expect - At least a semi final, knocked out Europe in qualifiers and top 5 finish

Hope - top 3 finish, win a cup

Expect - top 4 finish and, depending if we avoid Celtic, get to a final

I wouldn't expect Aberdeen to be as bad this season as they have been since last November... but equally I wouldn't expect them to be as good as they were between August and November last year either. What was it, 31 points out of 33 before they lost their first game? They're not putting a run like that together this time, especially with the European demands they'll face.

Hibs also won't be as bad as they were between August and November last year when we basically gave everyone else a 3-4 month head start.

For me a top five finish and a cup would be a very successful season.
    or
A top five finish and group stage euro football

Would love more but not even sure we'll manage this. It's incredibly difficult to win anything in Scotland when you have a team as far ahead on/off the pitch as Celtic.

Hope and expect 3rd. Getting a good run in the cups is difficult to predict as we might get another nightmare draw early on.

Whilst that’s true, for the last few years the team that finished third have then had European group stage football to contend with which will make it so much harder. We obviously might get that, but without being negative, it’s more likely that we won’t.

My hope is top 3 again and to an extent, I am expecting it. Aberdeen aren’t a great side, I don’t think their manager is all that and they’ll have the European group stage football to contend with which I think will leave them short domestically. No reason we can’t finish ahead of Hearts given how much of a head start we’ve got after last season and we should be finishing above the rest.

Minimum for me would be top 4 and at least one trip to Hampden on the presumption we don’t get Celtic in both cups prior to that point again.

Would be looking for top 4 win couple of derbies and a couple of trips to Hampden with reasonable cup draws

  26. #115
Depends what happens with Europe, if we were to get through the qualifiers and play European football until at least Christmas, then top 6 would be a fair achievement considering the extra games and travel. Not making the league stages, then we need to be looking at the top 4 and decent performances in both cups, depending on the draw

Hope: That we materially improve the quality of our squad, get to a cup final and finish third again or very close to it.

Expectation: The squad stands still at best or more likely goes slightly backwards, we don't get to a cup final and we finish fourth or fifth.
