If you have a player that no other club is willing to pay a fee for, is that player worthless?
To turn that on its head, was 1 season of Vente worth £1m to Hibs?

Only at the expiry of their contract.

If you have a first choice goalkeeper on a 3 year deal. Nobody is willing to pay a fee for him but he is hugely important member of your squad. Is he worthless?
Obviously a different story if they are a hugely important member of your squad which wasn’t in the original context. Also highly unlikely that if he was that hugely important absolutely no one would be wanting him for a fee.

Jair for instance is worthless. No one will pay anything for him and he will offer nothing to the hibs first team for the remainder of his contract.

Boyle, Youan, Bowie, Tavares are what we are left with and potentially Hoilett.

Youan I hope we can get rid this summer, but doubt clubs are interested or stupid enough. He could still do a job, but he is also one who is out of contract and we paid a fair bit of money for.

Tavares is simply not good enough, and needs moved on ASAP. Also out of contract next season.

Hoilett is 35, out of contract so will need to wait and see what happens.

We are in need of 2 strikers in the coming weeks.

No and I’m not disputing the Vente fee, I’m happy we’ve moved him on for a profit. I’m challenging the idea that a player is only worth what someone is willing to pay for them. That’s their market value, it’s not their worth. We’ve had plenty of players with a worth greater than what anybody would likely be willing to pay for them.

Randomly saw him and his Mrs coming outa the primary school next to me on Thursday. West end Glasgow…
Perhaps he is heading for Partick Thistle since Big Brian left, or maybe Falkirk (but I’ve not heard rumours).
Meanwhile, I notice Stuart Armstrong is available……. & I think has a house in Edinburgh…..

I think we have to make a distinction between worth as in sales value, and the scenario you describe.

Vente's sales value was decreasing all the time, and is dependent on what others were willing to pay for him, whereas his worth to Hibs in playing terms was...... arguable.

Very positive-sounding article in the BBC regarding Bushiri and Triantis:

Head coach David Gray revealed Hibernian have held positive talks as they bid to secure the services of Rocky Bushiri and Nectar Triantis for the upcoming season.

These two are so pivotal, stay and we just need to add up top, don't come back then its all go to find replacements and I'm sure they have options. Triantis has still got Hibs and Sunderland on his bio, so there's hope 😊

Fair enough - it depends on context then. We're both agreed that Hibs got a good deal out of the Vente sale. They might have done better, but that would depend on circumstances out of their control and would have been a gamble We'll never know if that gamble would have been worthwhile or not.

Monumental if we get both back. Still obviously need further additions to strengthen further, but if we keep those two, wow!

Rocky posting a video of him doing some training wherever he is... wearing a Hibs training kit from 2 seasons ago

Clearly loves us and only a matter of time if you ask me

Is that not basically what's been said for the last week or two? "We're having positive discussions with the players, blah, blah, blah..."

He wouldn't say it if we weren't still working on those deals, and we wouldn't be working on those deals unless we thought we had a decent chance of completing them.

Don't see how it isn't a positive update.

I think Rocky and Triantis are signing

SDG always strike me as quite reserved and doesn’t give much away, for him to say we’ve had really positive talks and should know next couple of days and then positive with Triantis too makes me think they’re coming.

    Maybe just wishful thinking 🤣

Impossible to know as undisclosed but observer said around 1 million.
    Observer says over £1 million.

I think some folk's brains are predisposed to see things a bit more negatively.

Yes I agree. But the BBC article is regurgitating old news about "positive talks", it's not offering any additional information, which is the point I was trying to get across.

On a more positive note, SDG wasn't asked about Hoilett so he didn't give anything up anything about Hoilett, so maybe

I would be all for putting the money gained from the Dylan Vente deal straight into contracts for these two. They are both pivotal players for me.

Yes, thought I had seen him.

I was wondering, would Youan be a good fit for the No. 10 role occupying the space between the midfield and the two strikers.

    Just an idea.

Youan and Boyle were excellent away to Aberdeen with Campbell sitting behind them
