Why wouldn’t he have gotten a touch all game? How did he get touches for his previous team given hanging about the box is how he played there? How did he get touches last season leading to him being one of the best strikers in a league much higher than ours given hanging about the box is how he played there?

He wouldn’t have got a touch playing that way for Hibs because we were playing Monty ball. Montgomery ruined him, as he did near enough every other player we had. He even had folk on here convinced Martin Boyle should be retiring FFS

You repeatedly go on about the fact that Gayle managed to get into the box to score this one goal against Hearts, Vente made a lung busting run from the halfway line to get into the box for a goal against Aberdeen at home. Your insinuation that he didn’t do it is laughable.

If I recall correctly, you were insistent last season that Montgomery was doing well to get what he did out our squad because you were insistent it was horrendous, yet loads of them have just taken us to third place. EVERY player underperformed last season under Montgomery who was an absolutely woeful manager, genuinely dreadful. It’s in no way a coincidence that literally every player from last seasons squad is having a better time of it this season than they were under him and his utterly rank ‘tactics’ and that even extends to guys who have went to different clubs - Maolida is outperforming Mahrez and Mane, Marcondes had a good season, Myzenda (?) who Montgomery chose not to even use has been an integral part of getting Sunderland to the EPL, Vente had a great season and then you’ve got all the guys who are here who have just had a great season.

As for your last paragraph, you were on a thread deriding people for criticising Montgomery and going on about the ‘European trophy winner’. If there’s a mystery on this board then it’s not the idea that a 16 G/A in 43 games striker was misused by a dud of a manager, it’s the bizarre backing to the hilt of our worst manager since Terry Butcher,
Ooft, is what I think I'm going to go with here.

Killie sign 6'7 striker Marcus Dackers on a 1 year deal.
Killies giant Dackers kicked Hearts Goalie right between the chakers.

Current signings would suggest they will be in deep trouble .

I'm beginning to be concerned about our squad.

First European game is roughly 4 weeks away and first league game about 5. We're currently in the position where we appear to be down by Kukharevych, Triantis and Rocky (and Hoilett and Gayle) and no ready made same-standard replacements.

It is going to be far from optimal if we end up failing to hold on to these players, or failing to replace them with quality or replace them late in the window with no time to gel before we are into important matches.

Anyone in the bushes at East Mains to know if we have any trialists we are running the rule over I get we’re waiting to see if Rocky Triantis and Hoilett come back on board but would of though we had something in the pipeline for launch of new strip and given we have European dates we are working towards

More or less concerned than you were at the end of January when you had your public meltdown and suggested the clubs top brass didn’t want to qualify for Europe?

Edinburgh side still in talks with Bushiri and Hoilett - and are searching for a new striker
Hibs will pocket over £1 million for a fringe player who had fallen out of the first-team picture under gaffer David Gray, with Dutch club Heerenveen breaking the seven-figure barrier to land Dylan Vente. The centre forward, who cost the Easter Road club in excess of £500,000 when he was recruited by Lee Johnson in the summer of 2023, is expected to complete his move within the next 48 hours.

The 26-year-old, now a full international for Suriname, was allowed to join PEC Zwolle on loan last season after Gray decided that the Dutchman didn’t fit into his plans. Vente made the most of his opportunity to play in the Eredivisie, putting up impressive numbers and earning widespread praise for his performances.

I’d have expected Rocky and Hoilett to have signed by now if they were going to do so. I suspect they’ll be moving on. Triantis a different scenario but that could run until end of the transfer window. I’d be willing to wait for him though.

We definitely need more forwards players through the door ahead of Europe.

I think if we were to go into our game tomorrow I would agree, but as you say we have a month until our first game and a full pre-season camp between now and then.

I think the reality of the situation is that we will be looking to now replace Myko, Rocky, Gayle and imo it's incredibly likely that we'll not retain Triantis as well. Hoilett is less of a must replace because of McGrath coming in.

As far as a starting XI goes though we're not exactly short on options.

    Smith/Sallinger

    Cadden
    Miller/O'Hora
    Ekpiteta
    Iredale
    Cadden

    Newell/Manneh/Levitt/NMW

    McGrath/Campbell

    Boyle/Youan
    Bowie

There's definitely work to be done, most notably is to probably replace Rocky and add a striker. But beyond that I would say we still have the the makings of a team that should still compete.

I wonder what happened to the Legia Warsaw striker Alfarela we were looking at in January? His loan in Greece ended and he's now back at Legia. Is that still an option?

Arguably the best balanced/quality squad we've had at this stage of a pre-season for 20 odd years.

Definitely work to do but starting from a strong base.

There should really be some gaps forming in the league now, particularly between the top 5/6 and the bottom 6.
Dundee, Kilmarnock, Livi squads look miles off it, though Livi will be well organised. To a lesser extent Falkirk and Motherwell should also be well behind the top 5.

Dundee United are also a bit of a weird one, off the back of last season where they obviously finished 4th without every looking that impressive and they've now lost a lot of experience. St.Mirren will be decent again.

Hearts will improve, Aberdeen will be decent again, as should we. Should really be a season in which there's some daylight between Hibs, Hearts & Aberdeen and the rest.

The guy was ****ing horrific. If you think you seen good snippets under Montgomery then you’d have seen world class snippets under Maloney and LJ.

He managed to make every player worse. That’s on him.
I suppose it all comes down to one persons judgment over another.

And one of the two of us always stuck with SDG being a good manager and never called Triantis “****ing crap”.

I can't really be ar5ed debating the point with someone who is more interested in posting snide remarks rather than engaging with the substance of the view I was expressing then or the view I am expressing now. So crack on if it makes you feel good.

Yet he did well enough in a league rated far higher than our own, so much so that we make a profit on the fee paid.

Have you written Amad & Mayenda off as readily as you did, Vente? Their current clubs and fans wouldn't share your view if that was the case!
Genuinely can't think of who Amad is?

Keep saying it but, IMO, the squad is in the best shape it’s been in at this time of the year for a long time.

We have some important positions to fill and I think that’ll be done well in time, either by a player returning or an entirely new one coming in, in plenty time for Europe. We go to Holland next weekend and I’d say it’s important that we’ve added by that point.
