'Frankfurt' Hahn is my favourite for that. Located almost as close to Liege and Luxembourg as it is to Frankfurt.
Where it snowed early in the season most years, and at its worst it had 6 feet snowbanks along the road as the road was always cleared within seconds of the snow landing, but the bus made it into Frankfurt regardless of the weather, and it always waited on the plane landing no matter how late the plane was, which it often was very late, especially the late night one.

What a day! What a night!

Edit- Tell a lie. Stopped off near Gare de Lyon in 2023 at the Rugby World Cup before jumping on the TGV to Marseilles.

Now that is a sketchy city. My cousin got his sporran ripped off him lost his wallet and phone.

Been going to Paris every other year since 1999 for the Rugby.

As others have said, vast areas are now a complete hell hole. Filthy, crime ridden, and uncomfortable to be in. It’s a real shame. We all know why it’s happened and is happening to many major cities in Europe to varying degrees, but saying it gets you branded as some form of ‘phobe’.

Indeed. Far-right extremist groups are a real problem in much of the world right now sadly. But we should be brave and call it out.

Been to Paris lots and know it well. It's a fantastic city. Reports of its decline greatly exaggerated I think. Has some dodgy areas but what city doesn't. Unless you're hanging around the banlieues there isn't much to be overly worried about.

Yeah it’s the far right pick pocketing, ****ting in the street, hanging around in gangs of men, looting and rioting etc.

    Keep calling them out 👍

You forgot setting buildings on fire with women and children inside, but I'm glad we've found common ground.

When did that happen in Paris bud?

It would be a lot more brave, honest and open of you if you just said what you mean.

What does this thread have to do with football?

If people want to discuss this type of stuff keep it to other sites or at least the Holy Ground.

My multinational family are absolutely **** scared of a particular kind of rioter and it isn't the ones you're alluding to. But you knew that already.

You're bio says you're 33. If so in 99 you'd be 6 or 7. Le Pen and his cronies were decrying the lack of 'French' in that 98 World Cup squad. Paris hasn't changed much since 1999 in terms of demographic.

    Hahah what???

Do you think I’m here to defend far right rioting? What has this got to do with Paris and why it’s such a dump?

Admittedly I’ve not been to the city for 10+ years - but given the trend right across Europe, I would be stunned if that’s true.

Well this is a bit of serendipity. A chance to try something out.

We have recently reopened the Holy Ground to all users rather than just PMs and I think this thread definitely belongs in there now.

There's a warning in there from one of the team about playing nice so try and do just that.

A dump? Sounds like you didn't make it further south than the Stade de France! Interested to hear what 'vast areas' you think are complete 'hell holes' as I'll have been to them.

I've been to Paris 3 times and won't be back. Went twice for football and had a great time. Last time went with my wife and totally different story. Dodgy as and definitely unsafe in parts at night. Also the only place I've suffered direct rasicm as a white guy despite being in some dodgy places around the world.

I’ve stayed all over Paris. It’s not any more ‘unsafe’ or ‘scary’ than any other huge city imo.

Or as Ryan Air calls it, Paris Beauvais.
Not been there in years - it was either when I was still a student or not long started working - so roughly 20+ years ago.

The airport was basically a collection of sheds and tents/marquees. Is it still the same?

Could have been written about Edinburgh regarding our founders 150 years ago.

It is indeed. Have walked from the train station in Beauvais to the Airport before.

Oh, another recommendation for food. I’m a bit of a burger nerd - McDonalds and Burger King ruined the perception of what a burger should be over many decades, but I usually find one independent burger place on my travels to try it out.

Sold Out Burger in the Marais area is the best burger I’ve had - incredibly simple too. Toasted milk bun, smashed patties cooked slightly pink, cheddar, red onion, lactofermented pickles that they make themselves, and house sauce.

It’s very Parisian to my taste - a really simple classic recipe but every single thing on it was perfect. Very beefy tasting and exceptionally cooked and prepared.

Incidentally, El Perro Negro in Edinburgh and Glasgow is second for me. Their Top Dog burger is excellent.

Really enjoy El Perro Negro, I think Bread Meats Bread fell off a cliff in quality 5 years ago. I also don't mind a mcds cheese burger whilst waiting for the bairn to eat. It's pretty rubbish but worth the price
