Hibs remain open to the idea of Ryan Porteous returning to Easter Road. But they are not actively pursuing a move for the former club captain, as negotiations with out-of-contract defender Rocky Bushiri continue to progress.

I think Rocky would be quicker than Porteous by a considerable amount

Rapid over 20 yards fastest I have seen since Geebs

    Rocky is fast and powerful

Did he not hold some record on 1 on 1’s last season ?

Even when he got ripped a new one when he let the ball bounce twice against the Hun 3-3 and got caught wrong side he still managed to get back and get a tackle in and put the guy off scoring a hat-trick with his pace at the death

Is he not a defender though? .... surely the golden oldie signing rule only applies to forwards
Well then, Danny Ings is out of contract?

I agree. In my opinion he was still one of the better players outside the old firm when he left and in the time since he's had a great run for Scotland in my opinion and looked to have taken another step. I do genuinely believe that stupid tackle vs Germany has derailed him in some way and it's hopefully a huge learning moment for him.

If SDG is happy that the Porteous we're getting to come back up the road is a more mature and well rounded version of the one who left then we'd be stupid not to take him back. Especially as now it could mean we have him for his peak years for the next 6 to 8 years at centre back.
I think SDG will have that conversation with him about what’s expected (and not expected) from him.

He will know and will have a point to prove imho.

I wonder what some would say if we had signed Findlay yet Ryan was available??

It would be crazy for me for us not to sign Porteous if available in our budget. We need to believe in Gray knowing what he is getting, on football ability alone he would at least equal the current Rocky, and Iredale, although I get with his left foot Iredale has a specific advantage. However I think on ability Porteous would be a massive improvement for defence in the squad, especially if Miller is now eying a move, and in all honesty even if Miller is staying, who I like a lot, but Porteous I would say should be streets ahead of most defenders in Scotland. Although I appreciate that should is a huge unknown at moment, and there is no doubt it presents an element of risk to us sinking a significant part of our budget on him, especially if Rocky stays.

I think keeping Triantis and Rocky, and signing Porteous and Simons would be a huge statement of intent, and a real attempt to improve significantly, keeping us clearly ahead of both Aberdeen and Hearts based on current recruitment. We still have potential big gaps up front off course, but maybe we need to really, after all this time, trust the process, and see who comes in there.

    Exciting, if slightly nervous times.

🖊️ The defender joins the Terrors on an initial two-year deal, with a club-held option of an additional 12 months, subject to SFA and international clearance

He was in a “leadership role” when that fanny Johnson decided to lift the captaincy off Hanlon for Marshall and have a “team captain” a “club captain” and a “leadership role”.

Someone read one book on leadership and took it to heart it seemed.

I think he was given the captain’s armband in one game when Lewis Stevenson went off , might have been around the time when Maloney was our manager .. could be wrong there though.

He’ll definitely have had it on a few occasions. That was around the time the club were desperate for him to sign a new deal so did everything to make him fall in love with us again.

They’re referencing the Herald article which only really mentions January interest from the club
The Observer is essentially an extension of Hibs own PR department. I'm inclined to believe if they are running it then they have something.

They essentially done the soft launch of Gray last year for the club. Daily articles with former players, other coaches and then even current players all saying how great he was (true) and touting him for the job.

On talent,Porteous would be a good move, but he needs to come back with a better attitude regards responsibility and teamwork. No more pissing about with risky passes at the back. If he could bring that to the team brilliant, but our top target for defence has to be resigning Bushiri.

If we are serious about developing as a threat in this league, we need to bolster our team.

I shiver when I think of what the development team money could have put on the park if we had went that way.

The way the young teams are going is the model we should be sticking to.

Apologies, unpacked a lot more than I planned to.

    Rocky followed by Iredale

Porto needs to cut out the errors stop taking risky chances at the back change his Billy big time attitude and learn from his mistakes cut out the rash tackles and become more of a team player

Coming back under SDG might be the making of him as a legend he has the ability no doubt plus he is one of us

Porto Rocky and Iredale sounds good with Miller O’Hora and Ekpiteta fighting for their places with Europe looming injuries suspensions and squad rotation

Porteous would be one of the best centre halfs in the league if we can get him back.
